That was some performance. Yes we lost 1-0. But the 1,400 of us there saw something special and won't often have felt so proud.

The Town fans were singing and clapping longer than the Reading fans too. The second half work rate was phenomenal, just unlucky I guess. On to Tuesday, loving being a Town fan!

Just back home and I have been listening to Radio Berkshire and all of their commentators said we deserved at least a draw. We were fantastic in the second half and gave everything the commentator said the ref got both the big desicisions wrong they said VLP should not have been sent off and Gunter should have gone. The last 25 mins Reading were hanging on for dear life. And to all those who take the piss when the ref gave Gunter a yellow card I stood up and swore.
Well done Town proud of you today even in defeat

One detail I don't think's been mentioned yet. After dominating that second half, and more than deserving a point, and then the final whistle goes, there were a couple of our players prostrate on the ground, having truly left their all on the pitch. It was the sort of scene you expect to see after a team loses a World Cup on penalties. Game 9, of a 46 game season, away to Reading, the ref. loses the plot in minute 27, and far from capitulating, we gave it everything ... absolutely f*ing everything. And that's why the town fans clapped and clapped and clapped, until the Reading fans weren't even sure whether they'd won or lost.

VLPs first booking looked a terrible decision- he got the ball and if anyone was fouled it was him, but no way was the ref at fault for sending him off with a second. 100% VLP fault. It was like he was trying to get sent off. He gave the ref no option but to book him again. So ridiculously stupid it was untrue. VLP was a disgrace today. totally let his team mates and the club down.
I left the ground more convinced than ever that we have what it takes to stay up there around the top group all season and really challenge for a play off spot at least. 2nd half we outplayed one of the better sides in this division with only 10 men and but for some lousy finishing by wells (twice) and hefele we'd have got a point- the least we deserved.

Try and get to Xmas around where we are and gamble and sign Uth? Genuinely think we might be a top class finisher away from having a shot at the premier league.

All the talk of VLP been in wrong , yeah his second yellow was stupid , but saw replay of it ,the Reading player blatantly fouled him when we was on a dangerous breakaway and he just showed his frustration with that and also previous booking, also the ref did not waste any time sending him off .A decent referee as a lot said would have got Hudson over to calm him down or ref to show common sense, the time scake from the fould to VLP saying something was hardly anything , seems like the referee didnt like VLP anyway.
Not saying is right him been sent of and sure will make him better person and to prove a point when back from suspension , but if referee would not have give undeserved booking this would not have happened .By way did the Reading player get booked for stopping him in that incident ,am not sure ...Just shows inconsistency with referee's.
Unfortunately think we will get a few more before end of season.

Agree with pretty much all of that and Nahki could certainly have done better. The one that hit his standing leg was potentially quite poor, but I'd like to see it again. I misjudged it myself on the day and had to be told that was the case! However, if the other is the one where he turned his man and fired over with half a dozen people between him and the goal, I'd hardly call that a glorious chance. You see worse misses than that from top end Premier League players on a regular basis, whilst it was certainly harder than Gayle's chance against us and McCormack's open goal (!) from two yards on Sky. I'm not justifying it, just suggesting that even spending +£10m on a striker wouldn't have come close to guaranteeing those opportunities being put away. How good were Smith and Hogg!

Smith and hogg were immense. Doesn't seem long ago lots would have 'driven him there' about both of them, Smith in particular. Now they're 2 of the first names on the team sheet and deservedly so. the other wells chance that i meant was the volley at the back post. Not a sitter, but just needed to keep it down to stand a really good chance of scoring but blazed it well over.

He was petulant, Town should've known he was a card happy school teacher type ref (poss did) and refs are rightly supposed to be cracking down on this type of thing, however: - it looked like a poor decision for the initial yellow, they aren't robots and he's clearly not the most emotionally mature of players (more a reason not to get on his back); - he was fouled! - it is 'consistent' for refs to be more hesitant when it's a second yellow, even late in a game. Should he make such a difference to a game for a bit of petulance; - couldn't the fourth official have watched a replay and such he may have called the initial foul wrong and to show some tolerance. Anyway, done now.

About a year ago I was at the point of thinking Smith's time had come, but he's a different player since he's stopped cutting back (manager's instructions or at least motivation). The way he controls the ball running at nearly full pelt is brilliant. I've often stuck up for Hogg, but even I'm surprised at how much he has improved. In particular, he doesn't slow us down in possession and kill opportunities by dwelling on the ball or immediately passing it straight back. Shows patience and coaching can work!!!

I think Hogg showed last season how good he can be. When he replaced Whitehead i thought he was our best player for a while until he himself got injured. Think hes the main reason why the defence looks so much more solid this season- just creates this barrier in front of them.
Smith seemed to go backwards under powell, which baring in mind powell was an international full back was a real disappointment. Maybe its just a confidence thing but hes looking like the player we thought he ould become when he first broke into the 1st team now. His attacking play and crossing is hugely improved.

The move in the first half where Hogg took it round his man and played a one two with Wells (?) was absolutely sublime. Reminiscent of the goal Shearer smashed in against Holland in Euro 96, up to the finish!
Hogg must surely be one of the best midfielders in the league at the minute. Moody's not too shabby either!

I was a bit worried he might not have the attacking side to his game to provide the width that is required from full backs in our formation, but he looks really dangerous this season. One of those left footers is gonna fly into the top corner before long!

Anyway, done now. Think both VLP and the ref lost their rags. He nearly did it again later in the game with Loewe. Do refs brief the players before games to show what they will/won't tolerate? Think they have been clamping down on dissent/respect, and the pulling the shirt stuff in the box.

I think the ref was trying to explain to lowve (through Hudson as captain) that if the away fans continued to boo his performance as referee then he would have no alternative but to send him off!
