Thought this lad deserved his own thread. Having heard about how highly rated he is, today was the first time that I've seen him live (wasn't at the friendly in summer of 2015 when he scored a rocket against us). Thought the lad dictated the entire game and for one so young, 21 I think, he looks to have a really big future. Anyhow, what's this got to do with Town? In the likely event that we are still in the Championship next season and we cannot get Mooy, I think this is a lad who we should seriously be looking at. Great in the holding role, tidy in possession, energetic, terrier-like, can step forward with the ball and has an eye for a goal. Reminds me a lot of Ryan Woods, but even better. Should have been booked in the first half but even at 4 down he was still playing the game properly. He epitomises Wagner's Terrier identity.
Thought their right back, McGahey also looked a good prospect. Good side they have over there and between the two boxes they were a lot better than us yesterday. In the boxes, a different matter though.

He did look good in the second half, but we totally stood off him. If we were playing on a good pitch and he was being gegenpressed for 90 minutes then we could maybe see if he can cut it at the top end of the championship.
I don't think you can say whether he's better than Dempsey on that showing, and he'd need to be for us to look at him.
Also the challenge when someone played a one two off him and he just checked him was lazy and should've been a booking. I know it's only one foul but we didn't play around him much and when we did he committtd fouls.

But, like eight ball says, we need to assess Dempsey properly first.

But, like eight ball says, we need to assess Dempsey properly first. I thought you may have considered him petulant 😉 In all seriousness, I thought he looked potentially very good; strong, gritty and also skilful. However, I wasn't entirely convinced with his passing, especially when trying to hit longer balls to spread play. It wasn't poor and hard to judge on that pitch, but it didn't appear to Billing's standard. Off this I'm not really sure he would be competing for the Mooy role (that's Billing's!) as the OP alludes to, rather Hogg and Dempsey's.

Good player, had a decent game I thought. Another one off the Dale production line.

As I said though, the pitch was that bad, so not really fair to make a judgement.

My Rochdale mates said we made a bid in the summer which was turned down. Was told that last July, didn't post at the time as was unsubstantiated but possibly true.
Looks a tidy player, any better than Dempsey though?

The difference between this lad and Tom Lawrence (to whom your barb refers ) is that this lad was fully committed to his team's cause. Lawrence, as good a footballer as he is, wasn't committed to either his team mates, his manager or his loan club's cause last Saturday. Camps wasn't petulant... he was simply up for it.

Think I'm right in saying that McGahey is a centre back as well. Maybe it's because he was right in front of us second half, but he looked very tidy. One spell where he nutmegged one and took it round two others. Not bad for an out of position centre-half.

I though Dale looked a very tidy side, you can see why they are up there. Even in the warm-up their passing in the "chase me" routines looked crisp and accurate. In fact, their defence looked much happier with the ball at times than ours did. Unfortunately (for them) they couldn't defend very well.

They pressed us a lot better than we pressed them, although we abandoned the press second half and dropped back.

I think Lawrence is a fab footballer... I just think he's a bit of a 'Billy Big Bollocks' and his attitude leaves a lot to be desired. Doubt Wagner would entertain him. I heard Leeds were in for him. Hmmmm... figures.

I think the loss of Calvin Andrew due to injury early on stifled the home side he is their target man and with their squad been so small when he went off they brought on a left back for his debut
