"Newcastle should be pissing this league with what they've spent".
Arguably so. However, we should be really struggling with the money we've spent. Powell was overachieving (slightly) & yet he was sacked & the impact that Herr Wagner has made confirms that it was the right decision to do so.

i m not sure if newcastle have started to crumble yet, but i think some of their fans have... Some of them have, fortunately that hasn't happened to the match going fans who made more noise after we'd gone 2 behind and were probably instrumental to us getting back into the game. The noise was probably raised ten scale and drove the players forward and forced them to raise their game from what had happened in the first half. you will need more than a bit of noise on Tuesday night i wish you luck but not success

The noise on Saturday with half the crowd that St James Park gets will be x10 what we heard up there in August. It was like a library.

At this time the game on Tuesday has absolutely no bearing on where you will finish. We could lose on Tuesday and give Brighton points and then win every game for the rest of the season, us dropping points to Brighton could give you problems later. Earlier in the season we won 9 straight games and we could go on that sort of run again, do that and we're promoted, not that I think we will repeat it.

I admire your confidence or is it just fantasy? If you can see 9 straight wins for newcastle thats interesting especially after the way they stumbled and fumbled over a modest Bristol team. You have Brighton, Us and Reading next, all away i think, which should be a formality to a top notch team, but lets see

I'd rather be where we are at the moment, just behind the leaders as we turn the final bend and head for the straight ... too soon to be making our move just yet... Hopefully by Saturday evening we're just 2 points behind , and a game in hand... I'd still be happy with a place though, massive over achievement by us this season.. I'm not sure if that is tongue in cheek!

The 9 game winning run included beating Barnsley 0-2 at Oakwell and Leeds 0-2 at Elland Road. The toughest game for us during that run was a 0-1 win away to Rotherham who played really well.

Just been having a drink with various Toon and Tykes supporters in my local. Toon supporter was seriously concerned at e games in a week against the rest of top 4 without 2 of their best players. Tykes fan was off to put money on us to win championship at 14/1 before odds get slashed when we beat them. I was convinced our good run wad bound yo end sometime soon. I have obviously been supporting too long. 🤔 The 3 away games are tough but the loss of Gayle is something we've coped with since the end of January. We (Newcastle) were better when he went off on Saturday. I don't know who the 2nd of our missing best players is, I would have been much more worried if we were playing without Shelvey who has a wand of a right foot and can hit a pass to anybody when he's up for it. Rafa has the players under control and complacency against the lesser team we're due to play is very unlikely. Earlier in the season we did see complacency at home against teams that we should have been but weren't beating, I don't think we've shown any complacency away. We've got the best away record in the league but who we have and haven't played is part of that reason. We still have our toughest 3 away games to come and they could go any way, we could win three, draw three or lose them all, not that I think we will lose them all. We have the best squad in the division and that will be a big plus for us because when Gayle is injured we bring in a Serbian international. If our first choice keeper gets injured we can bring back one of our best players from last season. If we need to freshen up the defence we have a player who was our best defender last season and a player who has just had an excellent African Cup of Nations, Atsu who plays on the wing was in the team of the same competition and I could go on. One of our best players is Matt Ritchie and he's only one booking away from a suspension but Atsu would likely replace him which might even turn out to be better for us as Atsu can be really good and Ritchie then gets a mini break. Our next three away games are huge, any mistake by any of the top 3 could easily be corrected in April when squads should really make a difference when tiredness kicks in. The promotion places are unlikely to be sorted before April and no fans of any of the top 3 should be worried until then. We're supposedly the team under pressure, Rafa will manage that and we have players who are used to pressure so should be able to cope but anything can happen and when we're involved, it usually does, You may well have the best squad in the division. Only time will tell if you also have the best playing system, coach and team spirit. Can't really buy those, I'm afraid.

It's an absolute delight to be going into this game still well in the mix for a top two finish.
Still loads to play for no matter what the outcome
We've a team and a club to be proud of
Support the boys with every ounce you've got next Saturday. UTT

Is Hogg back in contention for this one?

2/1...well they've priced that up wrong for a start off. There is only Brighton with a better home record in this division. I'm going to whack 20 notes on at that price. And on what basis do they Newcastle at 6/4. If two clubs are playing one with an excellent home record and one with an excellent away record both teams should be 6/4. The odds compiler wants disciplining.

Is Hogg back in contention for this one? I'm sure I heard he's not available for the City game, but could be in contention for the Newcastle game. It would be great to see him back in the team, but if this game comes too early I have plenty of faith in Billing and Whitehead. Both have done well in his absence.

It would be great if Hogg could get twenty minutes at City before Saturday, though.

When Whitehead was out last season, I remember thinking 'oh shit' then Hogg stepped up and has been immense (as has Whitehead been when called upon). Then there is Billing of course, Whitehead and Payne who can step in and do a job in Midfield.

Surprised at those odds, thought would be similar odds for home and away, if not Town slight favourites. Might have some of that at such value.

so if brighton beat the geordies this week, and then we beat them on saturday, we'll be 2 points behind with a game in hand?
I bet they're bricking it. Still a long way to go mind.

I agree in terms of how well the whole squad have performed when asked of them but I've gotten greedy this season mate. I not only want to win, I want to outplay them. I want to see Hogg/Mooy against Shelvey/colback. Not only is Hogg the best defensive midfielder in the league he enables Mooy to dictate games for us. There was a great post match interview with Mooy recently in which he basically said the game plan every game was for him to dominate and dictate play and today(that day) the game plan worked.

Newcastle makes for some pretty funny reading. Stuff like this: "I'm not worried about the other teams at all. They're all tinpot clubs we should beat 4-0 every week."

They won't admit it, but I reckon most Newcastle fans will think like that. I reckon the manager and players will aswell. The owner definitely. Its the biggest reason they might fail. The pressure on them as the season end gets closer will be immense.

Do you feel the bubbles about to burst - next 3 games you have us down for 3 losses and and 1 goal scored against 8 conceded. Could happen but given the levels of performance we have maintained recently I would sincerely hope not. We are anything upto 25/1 to beat City on Wednesday - in a 2 horse race. Seems pretty generous even though they are rightly clear favourites. Looking at some city forums and talking to a city fan at work they think it could be a poor crowd (only 30 - 40k!!). Hope its less than that - a half full ground with city spread all over the place. A large town contingent making plenty of noise. We have backed the players magnificently this season and they have responded in kind. You never know what might happen.

Maybe mick, if you hadn't underspent again this year you would have beaten Brizzel today. Better get spending this week. . . The money we did or didn't spend had nothing to do with yesterdays result. We put out a team that was more than capable of beating Bristol and we would have beaten them if we played the whole game like the second 45 minutes. The first 45 minutes looked like we thought that we just had to turn up and we'd automatically collect 3 points and that's unacceptable. Our passing was slow and lazy, we had players who could carry the ball but chose to sit tight and look for a pass, it was awful. Yet again we had defenders gifting the opposition goals that they hardly had to work for because of lazy defending. Yesterday was frustrating and unacceptable in equal measures. Good.

I am chilled, I'm almost horizontal. I wasn't chilled yesterday, especially when I knew you were 1 up and we were 2 down at half time. Shame that can't happen next Saturday. Get your money on us taking a 1-0 half time lead with Newcastle only having 9 players on the pitch NOW !!

radio 5 live this morning, they (Steve Harper ??) were saying only 3 teams now in the race for the auto's, and for newcastle the bigger game is going to be at Huddersfield on Saturday because we pose the biggest threat to their promotion..I guess they've accepted Brighton have now taken the top place before they've even kicked off tonight !
700 tickets left for the game, as per 9am..
