It's a good piece that, I read it earlier. In a way, it is right and not too dissimilar to DATM. There's lots wrong on here but even more that is right and I've found that it's my go-to social media now that I've sacked off FB and rarely use Twitter.

I agree. If I was in the guy’s situation, I would probably come on here. There is a line between taking the piss/insulting folk, and offering advice. I think DATM knows where that line is. You only have to look at the thread from (I think) Andy about a year ago, opening himself up about his suicidal tendencies arising from depression. Loads of help and support offered, together with other posters opening up

I did a similar thing in off topic last year. I'd just split with my wife and was having a hard time just coping with everything that was going through my head. I'd obviously received help and support from family and friends but after a while you feel like a bit of a burden and start to just put on a brave face despite not feeling very brave at all.
I don't know why I decided to reach out to people on here, but something just told me to risk the potential ridicule and just go for it. I'd been posting quite regularly for a number of months and found that coming on DATM could often lift my spirits and make me forget about the shit that was going on at home.
The response was genuinely overwhelming. Some people just gave kinds words, others shared similar experiences and advice on how they dealt with things, and a few offered to let me DM them at any time I was feeling at my most vulnerable. To know that so many people were willing to take a bit of time out of their own schedules to help a stranger on the internet who simply supported the same football team as they did raised my spirits no end. It really helped me see the situation for what it was and look at the bigger picture. Those kind people will never know just how much they helped me, but it's something I will never forget.
Fast forward 12 months and my wife and I have reunited. There's even a third mini-Champers due in February 2019. I can say hand-on-heart that I'm the happiest I've been in years.
Sure, this is a place for mainly talking all things Town, opinions differ and discussions get heated at times. But to anyone else facing personal struggle I would say don't hesitate to reach out on here. You may just be pleasantly surprised at the level of support you would receive.
I'll finish by saying another massive thank you to everyone who made the effort to help me out. I may never meet any of you, but as far as I'm concerned, you're like a tiny extended family. Much love 👍

Some might have attitudes that piss others off, some may display behaviours that irritate, but we have a common bond (football and our magical club) and we do rally round when one of our own is in need. congratulations on the way things have turned out.

The things that have been written on this message board over the last ten or so years never ceases to amaze me. You only have to look at Drayltons post and remember what Andy said. The response was incredible. The response was from blokes who happily taunt opposing fans and deride their players but also step right up when someone’s in trouble. Football is not a matter of life or death ....and it’s not more important than that.
I like that Brighton piece. Good stuff.

I'm a bit computer illiterate so have never signed up for twitter, facebook or whatever.
But often when posters leave because they feel this place has deteriorated (and it certainly has it's faults) they claim they are moving on to these alternative social media outlets instead because the discussions are more mature or whatever.
So my question to those of you who also use alternate forms of social media, is, is this true or just bullsh*t?

Twitter has its uses for me in regards to team news for betting etc but has a decent % of fuckwits. If Facebook was a tv show it’d be Jeremy Kyle’s. Both are obviously full of the general public, a large % of whom are fucking idiots at best. Give them a chance to air their views and thoughts on a non face to face basis and what little sense they started with disappears. In general if you want a mature discussion you’d get a better one with the old pissed bloke down the pub than on social media.

Twitter is alright for following sport and I use it for bands that I like, gig dates, releases etc. Everything else is wank. I hate FB, I'm off it completely and will not return.

facebook and twitter are what you make of it. Unlike a forum where everyone is visible to everyone (unless blocked) twitter you chose who you want to follow and your timeline is only those people and the retweets they post of other people. If they piss you off you unfollow or block. So the audience you have is uniquely selected by yourself. I follow a select mixture of politicians, journalists, celebs, football players/clubs and folk who I find interesting. So for me it's fine. facebook i find is useful in a different way because you 'friend' family, relations, long lost cousins or just mates old and new, and so on and keep up to date with what's happening in their lives etc. there is a lot of mindless chatter, and photos of cats or bloody dogs etc, but as a means of keeping in touch (because I wouldn't otherwise keep phoning all these people)..it's okay.

North Stand is the best football club forum I've seen. The posters seem clued up, generally modest and humorous.
I think that because the main board there is a mixture of football and other topics makes it more engaging. It hasn't taken the route of being exclusively about Brighton and Hove Albion. Having the main board exclusively about football can become a tad stale.
