Did anybody experience the faggots at Burton season before last. Faggots and mushy peas. Cracking they were too. Now there's an appreciation weekend I could justify

What if they were singing it to a girl - surely there can't have only been male fans, supporting Brighton yesterday. Maybe not acceptable but not homophobic. Anyone remember when ever a lady walked round the, side of the pitch "get your tits out for the lads" back in the day. Would be an 18 month stint in Guantamo bay and electric shock therapy these days. Just hope anyone who sang it had their hand in front of their mouth - it's known as doing a Harry Kane. No way CCTV picks that up

A quick scout of CCTV will show a few hundred singing it and no way will the club issue bans to that many fans it’s just petty and daft that in 2018 a light hearted joke causes so much a problem

One thing I dislike about the match day down at Town since Hoyle has taken over us the sanitisation of what is a working class red blooded male pursuit, it's all too family orientated these days. Whilst some would argue my profession means I'm not, I regard myself as a "working class red blooded male". I'm not sure I can think of anything I'd like to do that I can't at the Mac. Particularly if (even by implication) you're going to blame Dean for it (rather than just a change in the game or society). I still swear too much for example (and have felt guilty about it - but surely The Pope or Mother Teresa would be driven to swearing at the likes of Oliver). I'm intigued Art what is it you miss?

Terracing for a start, although that's not Hoyle's fault. It all just seems aimed at families now, the clappers for instance, Jarvis going on Twitter about swearing, it doesn't stop me swearing but the fact that they have to speak officially on it speaks volumes. Where as the atomsphere has improved ten fold it's not really intimidating for the opposition, that's another point.

I miss standing at Town, not sure I miss terracing so much (& some "big game watcher" squashing my area in those games). ...but TBF I've stood at all our away games (except West Ham) since we've been in the PL. I love the clappers and I'm invariably "clapping" mine against my thigh at intervals during the walk up St Andrews road. Not sure why a working class male shouldn't like them. I think our atmosphere is probably the best in the PL. Not sure what could make it more intimidating. Would you want us to be like Millwall are on occasions? TBF I wouldn't.

As for the atmosphere, on occasions, yes I would like to see it like Millwall or a Leeds in a big game, not teetering on the brink of violence but something to put the wind up the opposition. We probably do have the best atmosphere but not sure it puts the opposition of their game.

Having a noisy atmosphere makes attending football matches a enjoyable experience and and makes the public keen for more especially the kids, we have lost a few generation of new supporters through lack of interest long may it continue.

Why does that particular "community" need a weekend? Its society going over the top to show how politically correct we all are. When is straight weekend out of interest? All 52 weekends. Enjoy them.

If the gays want to be accepted they should stop shoving it in our faces willy nilly. 95 percent of the population dont have a issue. By having such weekends they are causing a issue. Let it go, we know your gay, we dont care, your the same as us. They want equality, then stop dividing us by parading about in knickers. Lgbt festivals are a utter disgrace, vile, crude and unneeded. I wrote something similar on a parallel thread. Who really gives a shit and why do the club feel the need to get involved? It really is another case of "Emperors New Clothes". There is not an issue anywhere....i know 3 gays who attend Town matches occasionally...they have zero problems in their lives so where is the problem? Sick of hearing about it. Not long now before the stands have gay quotas and positive discrimination to get lesbians on the board. Heteros laugh about sex, they also laugh about gay sex...its words...no one actually died!!!!!

Brighton fans ( not all of them if course ) just as the vast majority of teams we play chant "Sheep shaggers" at us, the implication being that as fans of a West Yorkshire team from a town and an area that was once known for its thriving woollen industry we are all prone to beastiality.
Personally I've never taken offence at it and am unaware of anyone that ever has, it's plainly silly. Is it more or less so than the implication that all the fans of BHA, football team from Sussex that is widely regarded as the "gay capital " of England are all male and all homosexual? Is there a single Brighton fan, gay or straight that was offended or upset by the few chants aimed their way ? Would the same chants be ok when we play other teams, Spurs Man Utd etc that don't have the gay link ?
Football fans have come a long way from the 70s and 80s, some more so than others and a handful will probably never get there but I really think there are more things to worry about than a few chants hurled last Saturday and that in no way is my condoning genuinely homophobic behaviour. In the last hour the news on the radio has announced that a woman from New Zeland has LOST her court case brought against her work colleagues in her adopted homeland of Australia. She alleged they were racist towards her by calling her a Kiwi, the judge said that was nonsense.

I've always thought "sheep shaggers" was reserved for playing the likes of Swansea / Cardiff etc, and haven't ever really heard it at Palace games up here. Of course, it's common for us to sing the "Go down pub, drink 10 pints" song, at which point I don't get involved due to usually living further north than where the game is taking place

Most fans from south of the Watford Gap think we all keep whippets, race pigeons and wear flat caps to matches .

Surely, the term "homophobic" not suggest the chant was displaying a hatered of homosexuals etc.
The chant was suggesting that their fans were homosexual (or women) but did not indicate a hatred or dislike of homosexuals or women unless they are suggesting that being a fan of Brighton is to be insulted?
