Oh dear! The 2-1 defeat at Barnsley was not the result I expected but it was the result I feared. The Cowleys' tactics of keeping games tight, when on the road, and hoping to hit on the break is not now working. Candidly, we don't have a good enough defence nor the sharp strikers necessary for this approach to be successful. On Saturday we had the additional downside of a team playing in a disjointed fashion, without any apparent plan and without inputting the necessary effort. An honourable exception was Lewis O'Brien whose tremendous 66th minute strike briefly raised hopes of a revival. Fortunately, we still have a cushion above the drop zone. The team are still in 20th, on 28 points, and now four points off the relegation places. We also have the imponderable, but eminently possible, insurance of Birmingham City being docked points for further financial irregularities.
The forthcoming visit by Brentford will be a clash between a team in form that is bubbling with confidence and a team with neither of those attributes. Brentford, following their home 3-1 win over QPR remain in 3rd, now on 46 points, six points off the automatics and five points clear of 7th. The Bees, however, who have a 6-1-7 away record don't really do draws and, as can be seen, are vulnerable on their travels. They lost 1-0, at Millwall, in their last match of 2019 for example. Consequently, if we are on our game we are not without a chance. Though I think we will most probably lose, there looks some great value available for punters prepared to back a home win. William Hill, for example, are now offering 17/5 against Town taking all three points which looks a big price.

We've a snowball's chance in hell of getting anything from this game.

beat them once already this season, stranger things have happened. they've massively improved since losing to us though. even then Mbuemo gave Brown a very tough time last time round, and Watkins has really grown into the 9 role since

We've a snowball's chance in hell of getting anything from this game. Like we did at Griffin Park? FWIW, I've tipped us to lose this one, but then again that's what I expected in the away game. You never know... And, the only games that Town have won recently have been against the high-flyers, so...

I think every Town fan hopes Brentford can continue their current form & take 2nd spot from our chumps down the road, would be similar to our own journey to the PL together with a move to the new stadium....fairytale stuff.
Looking at the votes cast so far from our fans it looks promising for the Londoners, if QPR do their near neighbors a favour in the early kick off against a team who hate playing in the capital, then you would expect a rampant Brentford to take the points with ease.
How do we get something out of this game then? Bringing Stearman in looks certain & maybe play JS in front to try & somehow get a clean sheet & make us harder to get past, may not be pretty but its a start, we may even nick a winner...….but doubt it!! So 0-0..UTT.

Looking forward to seeing Brentford in the flesh as they are a decent side and my dark horses for promotion at the start of the season. Will be a very tough game for us. You would think at the very least though, one of the two new signings will start and I fully expect further new bodies through the door this coming week available for immediate selection.

Everything is grim again. But as always, I’ll be looking forward to the game and hoping that we win. Mounié to score at home again ( hopefully)

Brentford are fighting off Premier League interest in 18-goal striker 24-year-old Ollie Watkins. Sadly, no sign, yet, of him going before Saturday!

If we start the game like we did at Barnsley it’ll be all over by halftime - an idea for next season’s tickets you turn up at halftime just to see second half at half price UTT

Paddy Power odds:
Huddersfield: 7/2 Draw: 5/2 Brentford: 8/11
The odds against a Town win have been steadily moving out and 4/1 is available at William Hill. For the more cautious punter, 13/5 being offered against a home win on 'Draw No Bet' looks good value.

Anyone can beat anyone else in this division, so the whole "snowball's chance in hell" argument doesn't wash.
That said, I think we're going to get pumped.

Depressing to think that lots are now expecting a pumping at the hands of fucking Brentford, at home.

I'll settle for a re-run of that belter of a game against them years ago when we fought back to grab the late winner (off the back of supersub Boothy's head iirc?)

There was also the exciting although ultimately depressing 4-4 last game of the season when we eventually lost to Posh at Old Trafford (2011)

Suspect it will be the first time us trying 4-2-3-1 which undoubtedly will prove a challenge in its self given we are yet to play that system.
Brentford are high flying but will know our strengths and weak points.
Heart says we do the double over them head says 0-0 draw or a narrow defeat.

I just want to see ESR in a town shirt, a motivated team and two functional wings. I'm not a demanding man.

If we play like we give a shit then we can win. If we play like we don't give a shit then I don't want to think about potential scorelines.

The Cowleys have turned bad form around in the past & I'm confident they can do it again. Between the Preston & Leeds games we picked up 2 points from a possible 15 then we managed 10 points from the next 15 available. Really disappointing results in our last couple of games, particularly because they've been against relegation rivals but we need to stick with them & back the team on Saturday. Still loads of points to play for.

Said from the point they first took over that with what has gone on recruitmentwise in recent seasons they should have at least 2 transfer windows minimum to start shaping the team as they would want it, funds permitting. I'm still sticking with that view for now.

With the new signings we could see the Cowley's changing the formation. I think Barnsley played a midfield diamond and you could see Town trying that with Hogg at the base, Smith Rowe at the top and King and O'Brien in the middle - would look pretty balanced with lots of engergy. Then you could play Grant or Campbell off Mounie

Assuming everything goes to plan (I know), I'd like to see this starting eleven:-
Grabara
Simpson Schindler Stankovic Toffolo
King O'Brien
Kachunga Smith-Rowe Grant
Campbell
With much stronger looking bench of:-
Coleman Stearman Hadergjonaj Bacuna Chalobah Koroma Mounié
