Seems like a desperation signing to me. Me too, if this is the calibre of our January business it really does feel like the towel's been thrown in. really some on here have!

Comparing strikers and their career goalscoring... JR has a scoring rate of a goal every 225 minutes, DW a goal every 378 minutes and FK a goal every 315 minutes. Caveats... apart from Grasshoppers FK hasn't really played at a highish level. DW has only scored 29 of his 75 goals above League 1, JR seems to have the pedigree (as we know), but his recent goalscoring record has been poor. Dw So FK, not the worst goalscoring record, but not the best either. I wonder how the assists of each player compare. Incidentally Steve Mounie has a scoring career of a goal every 324 minutes, albeit at a continually higher standard than the others. DW's scoring record in the PL is better than JR'S though 😁 I'd forgotten he'd scored in that season in the premier league.

The Daily Star (I know, I know) reckon it's not a trial, but that a deal's already been agreed.

It's a good idea imo. Get him training with us and bedded in and he'll be ready to go from new year's day. If he's not up to scratch (more likely than not looking at his record), we'd then have now until the back end of January to assess that, so plenty of time to make a decision on whether to bring someone else in up front. If it works, it works on a few levels. If it doesn't work, I'd hope there's room for another forward.

Would prefer us to give Simpson (when fit), Harratt or Hudlin a go over this guy.

Would prefer us to give Simpson (when fit), Harratt or Hudlin a go over this guy. Wouldn't you rather we have this guy AS WELL Hudlin is hardly demonstrating an ability to score goals in League 2, and only scored 5 in the National League last season. Harratt hasn't done anything in 2 and a bit seasons in League 2 and below to demonstrate that he's a player to bank our survival on. Simpson has a half decent return in League 2, although its more or less a full season ago since he last played.

To be honest Id rather give Rhodes or Ward or Simpson(when fit), Sorba as a floating number 10 up the pitch with them. Another poor sod mooching about on his own miles from a colleague seems a bit pointless??

Players like this are always worth taking a look at. No harm at all in bringing him in and having a look.
He's without a club so I would imagine his wages/signing on fee demands wouldn't be too high.
At 27 he should, in theory, be coming into his prime.
Worth a look

Think it's more of a case of plugging a gap in the squad when they move Rhodes on in January & save around £400k a year in wages than bringing him in to improve the squad.
He did OK at Hibs but he's done very little anywhere else to justify a move to a championship club.
If these are the kind of players were looking at to dig us out of the hole Bromby & Hoyle have been digging since Wembley then we're well & truly fucked.

I genuinely would rather play Ondo or another of the young lads. Is it Shanks or Falls who scores a few for the development team?

We had a proper no.10 lined up but in typical town fashion we moved too slowly & Millwall came in, they'll probably quadruple their money for him in January aswell.

I know what you mean but, realistically, this is the pool we will be fishing in. Our best (probably only) hope is someone like him comes in & scores enough to help us stay up. If it's true that we are trying to offload Rhodes, Ward & Holmes we won't be exactly losing a lot of end product from the first part of the season & may well increase it if whoever we do get bags 8 or so goals in the remainder of the season. What that message tells the footballing world, though, is that we are a club just trying to reduce the wage bill for life in Division 3.

We couldn't afford to buy the towels for his throw-ins as well as the £2M transfer fee, so the move fell through 😗😉

If he’s a free agent surely he can play straight away as long as he wasn’t attached to a club on deadline day.

I think we do have a number 10 in Sorba. I think a freer role would suit his particular talents and weaknesses. I like him a lot better recieving or challenging for the ball further away from our goal and nearer theirs.. I think being able to go wide or narrow with the striker would suit him better and us because we need any and every outball we can get rather than a punt to one bloke or 2 or 3 short passes on the edge of our box which frighten the bejesus out of me. 8 defenders most of the time or 9 at set pieces with sorba up the pitch looks better to me.
