So with it being just past the halfway point in the latest international break, what do the good folks of DATM think of it ?
Do you feel it gives both players and fans a sabbatical from the rigours and pressures of the domestic game, specifically The Championship or does it do your head in with boredom having a fortnight without Huddersfield Town even if they’re not having the best of seasons...
Should it go back to international matches on a Wednesday only spread more frequently over the season (particularly not too disruptive in The EFL where no teams will be in Europe anyway) or is it just fine the way it is at the minute and should be kept that way -
For what it’s worth - I far preferred it the old way from what’s now bygone days of yore !

It’s an unnecessary distraction that no football fan of any team I know is remotely interested in.

Pointless.
Have it for PL, and let Championship and below postpone games if they have 1 call up to the England team ONLY. If you’ve got a team full of Spanish or Scottish internationals or whatever, tough.

In our present situation I think it's a good thing. The general mood should be positive after the win at Millwall and it gives a bit more recovery time to the injured players. Also more time for NW to work with the squad.
Hopefully Knockaert can use the break to deal with his issues too.
So it's a yes from me ☺

Like a lot of things in life, we don't have a choice.
Can't change it.

Personally, can’t stand them . Rather they had a more intense season - finished early May and then played qualifiers in a tournament-style setup before finishing the season and having a few weeks off.
For town , sometimes they work really well and other times they hinder . Hopefully the lads went into the break with confidence , a bit more belief after Millwall and we’ll be a few players better off for Boro.

It’s a forced exclusion, all designed to ensure the top sides remain at the top, and to some degree, build the profile of International football.
Unless you have a set number of players involved, it should be a case of clubs having to use the remainder of their squad, as used to be the case.
Unfortunately, the clubs also use this to their advantage, and would therefore bend the above rule if it existed, making sure enough players reported in as being injured to allow them the time off.
Lastly, this also means many games have to be played midweek. Not too bad for home supporters, and personally I enjoy evening games, but crap for away fans.
I don’t doubt there’s the influence of TV in this rule coming into play.
Having said all that, might not be a problem for us next season… 😉
Edit to say that ref: the TV point, look at England. Arguably they could restart the domestic programme on Wed, but TV will insist on giving them blanket coverage across a 2 week period.
It’s a load of tosh, the fans coming secondary as usual.

The timing of them is bizarre. New season starts - teams starting gel (or not gel) - lets have a pointless international break. I know lets have another when the season is about to reach the crucial s stage - when relegation, titles or promotion can be won or lost. I know lets also extend the amount of countries in the finals so the shit teams can qualify as well.....
Its all about the money.

sadly these are only going to increase as even more countries are to be included in world cup finals . The Euro's is another multi league , home and away fook fest which is just a money spinner... I'm sure someone soon will come up with another 'global' football competetion..maybe the 'Universe Cup'...and on and on it goes. At some point 'someone' is going to have to say enough is enough.

The International game is glorified exhibition football. The players see it as a jolly! It's no longer the pinnacle of the game and is out dated in format. Major tournaments are over hyped and low on quality. The whole thing needs canning and the corrupt FIFA can go to the wall! The only positive is that other sports and activities get a look in when the domestic game stops for a weekend.

Years ago International football was a big deal. The nation would stop as everyone watched the game and winning a cap was a major achievement in a player’s career.
Now the game in this country stops as we prepare to play San Marino and caps are handed out like confetti.
Mediocre players earn more than 100 caps when this used to be achieved only by the greatest.
This is why I have lost interest in International football.

We don't want football to follow cricket where the international teams seem to have destroyed the county game.
The coverage of the county game is nowhere near where it once was.

Said it before but years ago you'd have all the home nations playing in important world cup/Euro championship qualifiers in midweek, and on the previous saturday there would have been a full fixture list, i know England didnt qualify for the 74 and 78 world cups but i certainly wouldnt put it down to this.

Every game was tense, always something riding on it. I loved it then. The rarity, the crackling commentary, the less is more factor.

I’m not sure if they had seeding in the groups back then or if it was an open draw, but I have to say that I detest seeding - it’s almost akin to fixing a tournament... Nowadays you can almost predict the group winners before they start ! ☹️

This season i think it's a bonus for us to have a minibreak so Warnock can work with the majority of the squad a bit more not to mention giving the injured players more of a chance to recover.
I'm all for the Internationals but I would say that I've just spent the best part of 4 days in the sunshine and visiting places like Pompeii oh and I've seen England win against Italy in Italy for the first time since 1961.

It’s strange for us as we’d just got a cracking result at Millwall, so you’d think a break would be bad timing.
However, I think it’s come at the right time to try get players back fit etc

Its a yes from me, I know its a pain when Town aren't playing because of the break, but it is outweighed by the summers being filled in with the world cup, European Championship and now the Nations league (with the exception of Qatar.

But the Summer would still have those competitions, it’s just the breaks for qualifiers that we’re taking about here. Look at this set of fixtures, England could have been playing league football again tomorrow. It’s all for TV, and the revenue that the authorities receive from them.
