My Brighton supporting friend sent me a link to this article: morningstaronline.co.uk/article/seagulls-stirring-renaissance-continues-astonishIf Mr Nagle wanted to have a case study on how to run a football club he could do a lot worse than have a quick read. If I was advising Mr Nagle I would suggest he talk to those in charge at Brighton, Brentford, Palace. All clubs of similar fanbase but all have done a magnificent job in running their clubs. There is no doubt they have all had significant investment but they all have a plan, identity and connection with the community with everyone pulling together. There's nothing wrong with learning from the successful.

He’s never going to have to unless City get relegated and lose all their players, but persuade him to stay. Would love to see that on so many levels! If this isn’t overachieving, then I don’t know what is … In his first season, he led Barcelona to the continental treble of La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Champions League, becoming the youngest manager to win the latter competition. He was named the FIFA World Coach of the Year in 2011 after leading the club to another La Liga and Champions League double in the 2010–11 season. Guardiola ended his four-year Barcelona stint in 2012 with 14 honours, a club record. Guardiola joined Bayern Munich in 2013 and won the Bundesliga in each of the three seasons, including two domestic doubles. … Manchester City in 2016 and guided them to the Premier League title in his second season in charge, breaking numerous domestic records, as the team became the first to attain 100 points in a single season. He led City to a domestic treble in 2018–19, their first Champions League final in 2020–21, and their first Champions League title as part of another continental treble in 2022–23. Barca were already the best team in Europe when he got their job. At Bayern winning the German title is more or less given..his job was to win the CL for them and he failed..underachieved there if anything. At city they were already the top club in England expected to hoover up titles. Hes been very successful but only what would be expected at those 3 clubs. Hes not 'over achieved' IMO. To really prove himself as a manager he needs to take a job at a club that arent nailed on to win their domestic title and see how he does there. A Spurs , Newcastle or Villa type of club. What would "overachieving" at Barca, Bayern or City look like ?

I don't think that is what is ever going to happen with us I think it's £300m but their cash balance sheet (based on their transfer business) should balance that a bit. NB: I'm not saying it is easy but it does show what is possible.

So, you get a joiner who gets a job at a firm.
He can’t use a saw, he can’t nail anything. He doesn’t know one end of a bit of wood from another.
So you keep him on, keep giving him jobs to fuck up every week. And then it gets worse, his work is truly shocking. Nah, let’s keep him on, leave it as it is.
In any other business but football.

It’s someone who has bought a club and supposedly has the finances to cover these things. He can’t be that naive to think he will never have to sack a manager. I have never seen such a 1 sided poll on another thread where only 19 fans think he is the man, and I imagine a few wum will have included in that. It shows just how bad things are on the pitch and within the club, and he needs to get a grip now, not in January when he flies over.

Not sure if I'm still pissed from Friday night but this morning, having thought about KN's message quite a lot, I think the man is genuinely interested in our club & wants to make a success of it. You don't come from nothing to where he is now without having massive belief & hard work, nor do you get there by being a 100% nice guy.
I reckon once he takes on a project, he's in it to win it & I am very hopeful that the transfer window will be far better than many of us expect, though being willing to spend money & actually being able to spend it on the right players may be a hard sell to get decent players to come to us right now.

It isn’t anything to do with FFP is it? It’s new rules about new owners sticking to budgets, I think, so yes, they are a different set of rules we are playing to.

Don't forget they didn't have a ground,I would think much of that will be securing the land and building the stadium. But you are right it shows how much Tony Bloom has spent to get them where they are today. The numbers at Brentford would be interesting.

Champions league winners repeatedly, though I do think 4 PL titles on the trot would do it too. Taken from the Oxford English Dictionary? That's what I've been trying to explain (not very well I suppose) by what I mean by he's not OVERachieved IMO Fantastic manager (wish he was Town's) but everything he's done so far I fully expected him to do, including 3 PL on the trot. Win it again this year and then I'd agree he's overachieved. If he'd won CL at Bayern I'd think the same. To be honest, regarding his Spanish League achievements I'd stopped taking much notice of La Liga so not fully aware of the circumstances surrounding his wins there, but again I fully expected what he DID achieve when he became Barca manager.

KN wasn't here for last year's first half season, so only saw the one-off footballing miracle NW performed.
A change is needed now. The Club desperately needs stability in the Championship whereas the gap between Town and the bottom 3 gets smaller.
Give an established Championship manager the chance to achieve this now whilst being able to assess the team and make January signings. Assuming good money fails to attract NW back, Tony Mowbray is available and has brought stability to other Championship clubs.
Unless a change is made now, the remaining 2 years of the Club's 3 year plan could instead focus on getting back into the Championship. Clubs rarely make it back first time. A new Championship calibre manager is unlikely to come in February with the real risk of having a relegation on his CV.

Be unusual to have an owner that wouldn't turn up to take advantage of the hospitality at the European/champions of England stadium

Anyone thought he's only coming over for the City game? He was already coming over for most, if not all of January. I'm assuming it's a quieter time for his US businesses and there's probably progress to be made on the stadium here, plus it's the transfer window!

Daft as it is, him attending the Man C game might give him an idea of what he’s let himself in for?
When he sees that the C reserves cost ten times as much as the team we put out, it must sober you up a bit as an owner…

Of course you would; if you took on an MD and he was rapidly sending your business down the pan you'd get rid of him/or her in the blink of an eye. I once read somewhere that just 1 in 3 appointments is successful (out in the real world, not football); whether that's true or not I don't know.

Probably a lot less than competing to stay in the championship for 11 years This of course is the worry and why we need to see some action to backup talk of aiming for the PL. League one teams are cheaper to run and still come with shiny stadiums and the kudos of owning a football club. Let's hope KN is serious about competing in the championship.
