Where has it come from?
I remember coming to the game and the only time i Booed at someone was if they were on the opposing team and being a complete knob e.g. Dyer ot the ref for being uselss! I admit i have booed my own players but only once versus Gillingham last season when we were losing 3-1 at home and we let fat Delroy score.
But why should players who get this nigh on week-in week-out want to play football anymore for a club whose fans boo them for an error! For god sakes we are only human! I turn towards last weeks England match where Ashley Cole was booed for an error which cost England a goal even though IMO he had a decent game. I don't remember Gareth Southgate getting booed for missing a penalty in euro '96 versus Germany. This culture which has crept into the game in the last 5 years must be irradicated immeadiately for the sake of the players as surely confidence of some will suffer.
Now get encouraging our lads and Stan

I thought that if Town played s**t then they get booed and that's been happening for years? Not sure what the fuss is to be honest. I think it only stemmed from the inept performance in the last 5-10 minutes where we failed to show any interest in winning the game and dilly-dallying outside Rovers box?

This new "booing culture" has come becuase the players are now paid so much, and have such an easy lifestyle that the expectations of the fans has gone up so much. Fans now think becuase a player earns £1000's of pounds per week, they shuould be performing at the highest level week in, week out.
Players personal lifes are in the press so often that they intantly become disliked (IE Ashley Cole) and as soon as the fans see them make a mistake they are straight on their backs, as with England the other week.
I think people get sick & tired of working hard all week (much harder than the players for much less money) and then paying that money out to see the players, when they underperform they get pissed off and the only outlet they have to vent this frustration is to boo.
Thats my take on it anwyays.

Totally agree
Barry Conlon got the same treatment at Bradford, so much so the club issued a statement in the offical site saying that it hepled no-one.
He then scored after coming on as a substitute and also scored in their comeback against Accrington last weekend. Good on him I say.
Some footy fans need to look up the definition of SUPPORTER in a dictionary, thats if they CAN read.

The booing culture seems to have crept into the game in the last few years.
Personally I think it is a mixture of factors.
1. The commercialisation and general crappy nature of the Premier League - some fans view this as the be all and end all of football. If we're not there then we're failing and it's not good enough etc etc. I think the Premier League and the FA are an abortion of what the top division should be.
2. Increased ticket prices, mean some of the most loyal working class fans get priced out of the games (not saying this applies to Town) and replaced by Plastic fans who want immediate sucess or they call for the manager's head, or just go support another team.
3. At Town specifically, we appear to have an attitude similar to Newcastle fans. 'We shouldn't be in this league, and if we're not out of it this season then whoever is in charge needs to be sacked, i deserve better' blah blah blah. We do deserve to be in this league. We don't have a divine right to promotion. You do not deserve better.
Unfortunately, I can only see the booing culture increasing, football is turning from a sport into a pantomime.

The most pathetic thing, by far, was booing Williams as he came on as a sub. What are they trying to achieve? Pathetic.

I remember Town getting heavily booed after a home defeat to Barnet in 1993. It's nowt new. But booing after a heavy home defeat to Barnet, is very different from booing as your team draw 1-1, and directing that booing at a subsitute coming on, or the right back.

I dont think people boo specific players. I booed when Williams came on, but that wasn't against him, it was against the decision to play him because I don't think hes a good enough player and I didn't see the point in using a sub to replace the left back position at that point in the game.
I also booed when MOM was announced, not against Goodwin, I think hes an ok player, but against the decision that someone thought he was the best on the day which he clearly wasn't! again I booed at the end of the game because i didn't think we played well enough.
I haven't seen town win a league game at home yet this season (as I missed the only winning game), that just isn't good enough and the players and management need to know we aren't happy, how else will they know unless we verbally announce that fact?
If we all stay quiet or sing happy "we all love town" songs then how will they know we aren't happy? We all know that if we play well and still lose at the end of the game we will all stand up and clap.

A man losing confidence that all it will achieve. I really hope you are happy for yourself and results speak louder than words

ok may bad, i didnt know Skarz had cramp.
because I support this club I know that as well as making money the club is there for the fans, no fans = no club. we do all have an opinion on the game, the players, the tactics. how else do we let the team and stan know we aren't happy about the way the game is played. if we didnt verbally let them know then they might just go in at the end of the game and think they played ok and deserved a point. I think we all agree that Bristol today were not a good team but at times we made them look pretty good. if i could have a conversation with Stan tonight about what I thought I wouldnt have to boo but that isnt the way it goes is it

This booing is not new. There is always someone the morons boo. At one time it was Dave Cowling and another time Terry Austin. This sort of thing goes back right to the begining.

I've never booed Town.
1st reason, it DOESN'T WORK. 2nd reason, there's always been enough people at the game doing it without me adding to it (it's nothing new). 3rd reason, it DOESN'T WORK. 4th reason, IT DOESN'T CHUFFING WORK.
As for booing when a Town player is brought on - GIVE ME STRENGTH.

You should take a look at the meaning of the word supporter Main Entry: supporter Part of Speech: noun Synonyms: abettor, abider, adherent, advocate, ally, bearer, booster, brace, defender, exponent, follower, paraclete, patron, pillar, proponent, seconder, support, suspender, sustainer, upholder You're achieving sweet FA by booing apart from going against the very definition of the term "supporting his/her team" Take a long hard look at yourself and get behind the team or just don't bother.

I think there will have been booing throughout the country today. its just the way football is right now. the demands for success are becoming quite diculous. (even though I think its about time we fcuking went up]!
they'll be more than half this division's fans seriously annoyed around march time when they realise they have no chance of promotion.

"seconder"
means i second what the club ie the manager and the players do or say. I don't second some of the tactics used or the way some of the players play week in week out (not all of them just have "a bad day at the office")
therefore I have the right to say i don't second what they do? there is no other way i can second this under than verbally at a match.

Maybe you should think about the effect your booing will have on the players in question. Because the MOM sponsors are really going to be bothered about what anyone thinks of their decision? Booing that only was going to affect one person, the player himself. Their is no justification for booing whatsoever. As for the Williams sub, again who will is the booing going to affect? That's right, the player themselves. If you want to have a go at the tactics behind the substitution then have ago at Stan but it doesn't seem to take much working out for a person of normal intelligence to see that booing decisions by mangagers etc is only gong to make things worse and put off the player in question.

Here's another word: "Discourage".
Definition: to deprive of courage, hope, or confidence; dishearten; dispirit.
So, does that help Town in any way? Answers on a postcard...

I'm pretty sure neither Stan Ternent, Ronnie Jepson, or any manager or coach worth his salt in football would give a toss about your opinion. You know nothing about coaching and managing a league football team. Neither do I, and neither do the vast vast majority of fans in the ground today. It's fun to debate on forums the decisions we would make, and what we would have done in any given situation, but if you think the manager should be listening to, and responding to your footballing opinion, you are rather deluded.

Aside from the fact that Skarz was obviously injured, its quite revealing that Williams did more in the few minutes he had on the pitch that Skarz had done in the previous 75 minutes or so. I'd start with him on Tuesday. And Holdsworth probably.
