For what they are worth.
Please also find my thread from last week so you can see I'm generally quite positive
downatthemac.proboards106.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=16061&page=1Started the game with some nice touches, some good passing....on the floor and generally in quite a positive mood. Although we hadn't opened them up it was no surprise when Flynn, got on the end of a loose ball after about 6 mins just outside the area and stuck one in the bottom corner. At this stage I was thinking easy 3 points, Rovers had done nothing and we were looking very confident.
However, gradually Rovers started to wake up, put some nice moves together and started to look quite a tidy side. The big lad up front was causing problems for us and we stopped keeping the ball as we had been earlier in the game.
Glennon made a couple of decent saves, also made one misjudgement but I'll let him off based on the fact that we would have been at least level if it wasn't for him.
I've been trying to work out what the problems are at home all season now. Is it the defence? is it the midfield? If I had just watched Town this season at home I would be tearing my hair out. Luckily I have seen some away games so I can have a more balanced view on our season so far.
We seem lost at home, we don't know what to do and I think I finally may have put my finger on it. When we were knocing the ball around early on our central midfield was building from the back, staying in their positions and dragging players about.
However, when we scored this completley changed. All of a sudden Craney started playing just off Dickinson. Bearing in mind the fact that Jones and Roberts are doing this job too, we were then relying on just Worthington and Flynn to build things and keep us solid. Taking into account Worthingtons lack of passing ability this isn't going to happen and having just 2 in there is not enough to stop the opposition
For the remainder of the first half this was evident which left the defence very exposed, Goodwin for one looked very poor yesterday but the lack of protection he was given can account for some of that.
We managed to hold out till half time, somehow but for the majority of the half we were second best and only had one shot to show for it, luckily we scored that. I seriously think all we need to do was play Craney deeper and get Dickinson to hold the ball better. This was the worst I have seen Dickinson play. He didn't get much from the ref but he is far far to soft.
Second half, we changed things, Goodwin's lack of protection was attempted to be sorted out by sticking Flynn RW and pushing Jones (who I thought had a reasonable first half) up front. We all know that Flynn looks completely different when on the wing, he just can't play there.
It wasn't long before Rovers got a deserved equaliser (where have we seen this all before?) They continued to dominate the game and had it not been for a few routine saves and one excellent save from MOTM Glennon then this could have been 3 or 4.
When Parker came on we stuck him up front and put Flynn back in the middle with Jones on the left.
For the final 10-15 mins we seemed incapable of even getting the ball in the box and this is when frustration boiled over in the crowd because we didnt seem to have a clue.
Overall
Glennon - MOTM, made some crucial saves. One error first half but was our best player.
Goodwin - The worst game I have seen him have. Mistimed tackles and looked out of position several times. However, as a small defence he was given little support from the midfield and he never hid. He didn't give himself MOTM and anyone who boo'd should b ashamed although I think it was more like a loud reaction than booing. Fair play for lifting shirt over his head.
Skarz - Did OK, not much came from his side. However, he needs to sharpen up. He was too slow to distribute the ball. Made a couple of crucial last ditch interventions.
Butler - Nothing special at all, jury still out. Also still awaiting to see the danger he is supposed to posses on the attacking side too.
Clarke - Again, not much to write about. Between Clarke and Butler neither seems to be able to dominate and shout orders
Roberts - Frustrating game for him, spend alot of time waiting for the ball on the wing. Our slow movement off the ball and gradual transition into a long ball game didn;t help him. Still looked wuality when he did have the ball though
Jones - Reasonable first half I thought, beat his man a few times. Became more anonymous after being pushed up front. Probably not match fit yet
Worthington - Not a great game, made a few last ditch tackles but passing was very poor.
Flynn - Great finish, thought he was best player for us first half but when asked to go wide became lost. Much prefer his as part of a three in the middle
Craney - Started well but when we go in front seems to go for glory and push on too much. He is our most creative and intelligent central midfield player and we need him to stay there as I think it was him that caused us to lose our shape. He subsequently was subbed off.
Dickinson - Dreadful game for the young lad. Didn't win headers, didn't attempt to hold up the ball, gave away a lot of fouls (some of which I have to question the ref for) and doesn't seem to know what to do when dribbling towards goal. A big improvement needed and not worth anywhere near the figures touted about on here. The main problem is the supporting players don't know what to expect from him. When he finally does win a header no one is there.

Collins - Anonymous
Parker - Anonymous, whenever I have seen him play well for Blackpool he looks dangerous facing the goal and running at players. He wil never fit in well playing up front with this style of play
Williams - Did OK, tried to get us playing. Anyone who boo'd him coming on I hope you don't turn up again, you are not a fan of Huddersfield Town
Overall, 1 shot on target is unacceptable. However, Stan sent them out the blocks playing well, looking confident. What happens after we go 1-0 up is that the players change. Some of them lose disipline. They think we're going to stuff the opposition and all want to get in on the act. This is not acceptable and Stan should be having a word about this. You have to earn the right to play football and that means doing the simple things, something we can;t seem to do for a full game or in yesterdays case more than 15 mins.
