jon worthington
banned already,no league goals,13 goals in all for town got the biggest cheer at the galpharm for a miss-timed tackle that if he'd connected would have been a red card.
both flynn and craney will probs score more goals each this season than he has all his life.
another star of the gerry murphy football acadamey that has top clubs knocking on our door to take off us
lol ;D

I'd be interested to see Goodwin play in place of Worthington as a holding midfielder. I don't think he's a right back but in that position could do a job.

COMPLETLEY AGREE!!! i;ve said on here many times how pathetic it is how overrated this man is. no goals, no assists, not even any good tackles. He's either late or massivley late. I am so that all the positive things that happened in the summer, we've still got jon worthington as our captain in the middle of the pitch. he does NOTHING!

Most over rated player at the club imo, would also like to see Goodwin in the holding role

He does nothing ...but we've only lost twice in the spells he's been on the pitch. We've lost 7 times in the times he hasn't.
But once again, since when has a midfileders game been based on goals? I agree we have lacked them these last few seasons, but take craney on saturday...lively for 30 mins, wonderful goal and then did nothing for 60 minutes - ducked out of a tackle on the edge of tehir box which led to the 2nd goal. Scored but was a passneger for most of the game (worthy was poor as well).
Its about balance - was roy keane inferior to darren fletcher as fletcher scores more?
As I've said before - you need a grafter in the middle who can defend - that isn't craney or flynn. Its not to say wotrthy is the best man for the role either, but our record with him in the team is play off form and our record without him is league 2 form.

At last people are beginning to see it.
Centre mid is such a crucial position as is captain.
Worthington offers us nothing in either position.
He is a proper 100% man but that is not good enough - would do a good job for someone at conference level but at this level is too often found out.

I'm sure everyone agress its about getting the right balance but the problem is jon worthington just isn't good enough. we need to spend big in january on a PROPER midfield general. if we don't than we can forget about going up. He doesn't score goals, mis times tackles, doesn't score and very rarely plays any kind of defence splitting pass. He does however give 100%, does a lot of the dirty work, doesn't go missing. He can at times be more of a problem than a solution. I have no idea if he's any good or not, to some he looks great and to some he looks awful

On Saturday Worthy made two good tackles and an interception. Make 3 passes to team mates including one cross field for Holdsworth to run on to. THEN after 14 minutes he gave a misplaced pass and the divvy behind me booed him.

Don't think he is so much of a blue eyed boy!!! Was it 2 or three seasons ago that he was subjected to the taunts of the boo boys himself!!?? I am really undecided about Worthy this season!! On the one hand we need a ball winner in there which Craney, Flynn, Collins certainly aren't!! On the other hand, his distribution at times leaves a lot to be desired, and his shooting........................he was central to the goals in 5 to 10 yards of space on Saturday and still couldn't hit the target!!!! Thought Goodwin did really well when he came on in Worthy's place, so will be interesting to see how he gets on on Saturday!!

Consistantly we do better with Worthington in the team than without him.
The trouble is the stuff he does so well isn't all that noticeable. I thought he'd been below par for a couple of games before Saturday, but on Saturday he did pretty well.
His lack of goals certainly doesn't matter if we're playing him with Flynn or Craney. How many did Makelale score for Chelsea?

You'll be shocked to know I'm going to disagree with you Worthy critics. He isn't in the team to score goals. Do you judge Clarke and butler on their goalscoring ability aswell? Craney and Flynn have only been able to get forward and score the goals they have because theyve had Worthington behind them doing all the ugly work in a 451 formation. His passing was FAR more accurate than both Craney and Flynn on saturday, both of whom consistantly kept giving the ball away on the rare occassions they got involved at all. Out of the 3 ,Worthington was comfortably the better player in that game. Goodwin started the season in that role and barely registered. The games went on around him so much so he was quickly dropped.

Should have been got rid of years ago - can't shoot, can't tackle (without fouling), can't head, can't .....................
Shouldn't play at home but maybe away where we cram the midfield.
At home we should just attack and try and score more than the other team - because we sure as heckers like can't defend!!!!!!!!

Jon Worthington - he certainly divides opinion the lad.
Seems most on this thread are anti Worthington so i'll join Slaps and add some balance to the debate.
We have a better record with him in the side, his passing is nowhere near as bad as some people make out (he found a man on several occasions on Saturday) - yes he is a sideways player but he isnt in the side because he is Juan Veron, he's there to break things up and allow others to play a bit. I think he does a decent job at that.
His shooting is bloody awful I accept - which begs the question of why we persist in hanging Worthy on the edge of the box for corners hoping he latches on to a knock down or loose ball. Put Craney or Flynn there instead.
