This is the right decision.
The club needs stability - BUT stability needs to be with the right man. Stan clearly wasn't the right man and Hoyle stepped in when he needed to before this season died away.
Talk of a season of consolidation, talk of champagne football on beer money, talk of gelling and then making 8 changes, talk of not having boothy, talk of very little's changed since last season after doubling the wage bill and spening 500k ....was all very well and could be excused but not after nothing less than a dreadful start to the season this was inevitable. He had lost my confidence completely.
Could he have been given more time? Perhaps but how long does he need? People point to burnley but this is chalk and cheese with burnley - we never needed an overhaul of quantity - we needed an injection of quality.
Moreover, he made the sqaud even more unbalanced than it was - we have 4 left backs, 7 central midfielders but 2 wingers, 0 right backs.
He knew the score - he inherited a team which kept 10 clean sheets in 20 games. was 4th best from january to may etc. It was helped by end of season syndrome but ultimately he inherited a team with a solid base to add to.
Nobody likes to see anyone lose their job and I'm as patient with a manager as most but this simply wasn't working.
Its ok saying about next season but with leeds in the championship, prices back to £300, how many of the extra 7,000 ticket holders would renew with a mid table finish which we are heading for. Hoyle simply had to act now.
Good to end on a win - showed glimpses of control and quality but also the lack of shape, leadership, discpline and poor performance which meant we scraped a win against the bottom team. At times we were in contol, others shambolic.
As for watson - he was just what we needed in 2003/4, helped steady the ship and did a very good job at getting things done. But his decsion making over the last few years has simply been poor - jacko's 3 year contract, parkinson fiasco, ritchie easy option, and choosing stan over martin allen. Good luck to him , but it was time to go.
