Here is someone who isn't getting much attention or rumour. If there were to be a "surprise" appointment, we could do far worse than him IMHO.
He has a record of getting teams to play football, but with a purpose. Had a cracking start to his career, leading to his appointment at Stoke City. Seemed to be doing very well there, but when Sunderland came calling, he was dazzled and upped and left the Potters for an ill-fated spell on Wearside.
Latterly, he seemed to do a decent job at Burnley. I know they've stagnated a little over the past few years, but they were always in the group of clubs that could reach the play-offs, whilst never having the financial clout to fully sustain a challenge.
I think his footballing ethics would suit what Hoyle wants. He seems to be an intelligent man and I for one, would quite like to see him at Town. I just don't get a good feeling about Adkins, don't know why, but Cotterill would be a forward-moving appointment as I think the Sunderland experience may have put him off a "jump-ship" attitude if a higher-profile job came his way!

To be fair, if you were offered a job with a higher salary, a new environent and a better chance to progress, would you not take the job because you wanted to show loyalty to your company?
I agree with Cotterill, I've wanted him for a long time, since Wadsworth left...
Started well with Burnley, but kind of drifted away due to lack of finances and unable to improve the squad...

To me Cotteril seems to be living off his success at Cheltenham, despite him having failed everywhere else he's been. We could do better in my opinion.
Look at how much Burnley have improved since he left.

The thing with Cotterill is why isn't he at another club? It's been a fair while since he left Burnley and there must be an underlying reason for it.
I'd really liked him before (after Jacko left) but I'm not too sure now...

No no no! I live in Burnley, and used to watch them quite a lot under SC. They were not an entertaining team

I think Cotterill fits the bill perfectly and would be a good choice. Still young and ambitious with a lot to prove. Admittedly, the style of play is not the most attractive but this didn't seem to bother most Town fans when we were winning under Warnock (including Dean Hoyle).

Look at how much Burnley have improved since he left. True to an extent, but he was starting to turn Stoke around, if only for a short period of time. I know many a Stoke fan who thought he would do a great job, until he left. Sunderland was never an easy position to step into with Wilkinson at the time. Was he really a failure at Burnley? It depends wht you consitute as failure. Keeping a medium-sized club in the Championship regularly is hardly failure when you have limited funds and you are competing against lots of bigger clubs, many of whom will have had parachute payments. I think he did a decent job. Yes, Burnley are doing better now, there's no arguing with that. But before we wax lyrical about Owen Coyle, let's judge him at the end of the season and see if Burnley have improved that much. He does believe in playing football, has an eye for a player and I think he's a decent coach too. I think he'd tick a lot of our boxes.

I'd be less than enthusiastic if Cotterill got the job to be frank, he is one of these "characters" ala Holloway and dare I say it Stan!!!! I'd rather have someone who is desperate to prove himself and carry take the club forward. I am sure it is this level of enthusiasm that Dean will look for in the new man.

I agree totally with Timrankham. I too live in Burnley. Cotterill had them playing a very negative, defensive game, a bit like us under Macari. Most Burnley fans don't wish him well but have a much more exciting successful team without him being there.
