If you were being very generous to our ex-manager, you could say the one positive he has left us with is increased competition in central midfield.
On various threads a multitude of permutations have been suggested, but as yet I've not seen the one that I'd like to see tried at some stage in the near future.
IMHO Andy Holdsworth is the best footballer at the club but in time James Berrett probably will be.
Anyone else like the idea of Holdsworth / Goodwin / Berrett ?

would sit too deep imo
non of them is a box to box type
edit- unless playing with very attacking wide players

Holdsworth should not get anywhere near our midfield with the players we have brought in. Even more so given that he is the only natural right back/wing back we have.

AH is the only RB that can play effectively in that position so imo I would leave him there. There are enough players who can play in the midfield trio...
Goodwin/ Collins/ Flynn/ Worthy etc etc.

Agree with you about Berrett. he looks a real player to me and its noticable hes a lot physically stronger now than he was last season and being muscled out of it isn't the problem it was. Holdsworths performances in the middle last season were better than what weve generally seen from any of the new signings in terms of general play though he probably hasn't got the goals in him that Craney and Flynn have, but with the squad as it is you'd probably have to keep him on the right.

I'd actually play Flynn, Goodwin and Craney if we were playing 3-5-2. I know they were all Ternent signings, but I'm sick of watching Collins and Worthington put in poor displays. I wouldn't mind giving Berrett another go in midfield though, he deserves a chance.

Holdsworth Goodwin & Berrett (really sounds like firm of Solicitors) but seriously, I would expect them to reduce the Goals against. However I can't see too many goalscoring chances coming through this midfield, either for themselves or for our beleaguered strikers. A decent striker is essential, so, in my view the sooner we have a Knowledgeable manager in place the better!
