People writing him off before he even gets the job.
Wow, a new low.

People writing him off before he even gets the job. Wow, a new low. Not writing him off, simply pointing out why I wouldn't be keen ;D If he was appointed i'd back him without doubt, in the same way I was always in the group backing Ternent (and still think he went too early). But while all this rumour and gossip, and in general, rubbish flies around the board, it's much more simple to just write people off

That will be because of the ridiculous rumours (Allardyce and co.) getting everybodys expectations up.
I think we are going to get someone who hasn't managed in the Premiership, maybe not even the Championship and its not going to be a massive household name.
My dad reckons it will be Mitchell and that wouldn't surprise me, nor would Lee Clark or Michael Appleton.

Highly regarded as a coach at Newcastle and Norwich. Worth a punt. Highly regarded at two very underachieving clubs? Roeder is a terrible, terrible manager, so if Clark has learnt anything from him I'd hope he stays well away from our club. And from what I hear about the Newcastle academy, I could get a job there with my CV of Football Manager achievements. In the last 10 years the best they've produced is Shola Ameobi... I'd probably say our Academy was better than theirs, and that's not a compliment to our academy. No thanks to Lee Clark. Happily, this all stems from one rumour in the mirror, catching wind on a currently uneventful forum. To be honest, I was mixing up Lee Clark with Rob Lee.

People seem to be favouring Appleton over Clark when it comes to unknown..
Why, exactly?

People seem to be favouring Appleton over Clark when it comes to unknown.. Why, exactly? I’ve never regarded Clark as the sharpest tool in the box. Not so much of a problem for a coach but a definite show-stopper for a manager. Also, Appleton seems to have more experience in coaching.

People seem to be favouring Appleton over Clark when it comes to unknown.. Why, exactly? For me i'd have Appleton over Clark for two reasons. Firstly, the Ferguson and Utd setup influence on him, though he may not have been there for too long. Secondly, the fact he was forced to retire from football so young, should mean he'll have that added determination to prove himself as a manager. This is only why i'd have Appleton over Clark, and doesn't suggest Appleton would be my preferred choice for our manager. Just in a heads or tails situation this would be my pick.

Has anyone told Matty yet that he's not *actually* playing for Real Madrid...?

Just a rumour hopefully not true in my opinion, simply because i think we need someone with a proven track record and someone who is passionate and wants to progress with us.

Lee Clark, this must be some sort of joke. What credentials does this unpleasant, inarticulate geordie have that couldn't be bettered by several dozen other possible candidates? The current caretaking duo would be preferable for a start. So we should go for the manager based on their track record again; didn't really work with Ternent and Ritchie did it? Murphy doesn't want the job, and although I'd be happy to give it to Mitchell, there have been rumours that he hasn't applied either.

mick wadsworth also came highly recommended as a coach and look what happened there.clark does not inspire me at all. So ... ?? Wadsworth came highly recommended - so we should never go for anyone who's highly recommended ever again? Stan Ternent was experienced and had a decent track record. Let's never go for anyone who's experienced or successful, again ... Every manager's an individual case, we can't keep writing people off because of things that have happened --- in the past.
