Just cant believe in pre season that nobody thought about where our 20 goal a season striker you need for promotion was gonna come from? Look at all the top teams in our division. Most have prolific strikers to give them every chance. Some have a top partner and we aint even got 1. We even had to get a guy in on loan in september for gods sake! Its a shocking error in judgement by stan and boy are we paying the price now. Look at our strikeforce now. Parker, jevons, cads, boothy, denton. Way short of what is needed for promotion. Goals win games

To be fair to Ternent ,even he realised we had a gaping hole in our squad up front and tried to fill it with Stead, Lee and one or two others. But all to no avail despite all his supposed contacts in the game and having the thick end of a million quid to do it with, so we ended up having to settle for a loan which is never ideal for various reasons. It really should be priority number 1 in January, but it'll be far harder to get the right man in a mid season window than it would have been in the summer.

Soz to drag this one up again, but I fail to see how we didnt manage to land Jon Stead form Sheff U if we really did offer £850K for him pre season as he clearly wasnt in Blackwells plans.

we will just have to wait until the new manager comes in and sorts his side out, we are very very very lightweight upfront compared to all other sides who want promotion imo.

Donny Rovers got promoted last season & their top goalscorer had 9 with 7 being the top league goalscorer! www.doncasterroversfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Goalscorers/0,,10329~200710329,00.html It was our lack of goals from midfield that was more of a problem last season but let's not get into the whole midfielder signing thing again!

Stans seeming over reliance on Boothy was cringeworthy. I think that this in itself highlighted a problem.....

Stead didn't want to come back, that's why. How did Leyton Orient manage to sign Boyd though? Granted he had been injured, but he was a proven goalscorer and certainly not in the same sick note league as Cadamarteri - who isn't really a goalscorer. I know that Boyd was before Stan's time, but why didn't Ritchie go in for him? Grant Holt is banging them in for Shrewsbury and he was available in the summer. Stan tried to sign players who didn't want to come, instead of being a bit more realistic and going for a reliable lower league goal scorer. There are loads of them out there who would be fine against the sort of defences we face. The trouble was that by the time he discovered that all the players he wanted, wouldn't drop a division, all the ones he might have been able to sign had gone somewhere else.

Conversely a number of Championship clubs will be signing strikers from 'out of our league' (players we can't attract, rather than players 'from league 1'!), this will ripple down their squads and a number of players will become available who weren't available at the start of the season.
For example, with Kabba and Dickinson and Burgess on the books, will Danny Nardiello get another game this season at Blackpool? Probably not. He's got another season on his contract beyond this one, and missed pre-season, so exactly the kind of player you want to get out on loan and get some games behind him, to either attract a sale next summer, or get him competitive in your own squad.
He'd score goals in our team wouldn't he?

It's not just a striker which is desperatley needed we also need to improve the defence, theres no point in just bringing in a top striker if we field a poor defence just look at our goals against!

We are missing him, and the fact we are says a hell of a lot more about the standard of the other strikers than it does about Boothy.

People knock Boothy but we're not half missing him. It’s not that people knock Boothy, it’s the fact that we’ve had to rely on him for three years.

It is a problem though. To me now we only have Parker, Jevons and Booth as first team strikers. Broadbent has only made a few short sub appearances, Cads isn't really a striker he looks better out wide and goes there when playing up front anyway, Roberts is a winger and is our best player when out there - just needs someone to get on the end of his crosses.
We haven't had a decent partnership up there for years.

Stead didn't want to come back, that's why. That is not true. United's chairman warned Unkle Ken to drop any interest in signing Stead as Stead has personal issues that United thought would be unfair on Town. They couldn't believe their luck when Ipswich came in for him.

Ask any club other than the 'big' 4 who is their 20 goal promotion machine/partnership and you'll get the same answer - they come along once in a while. If every club had these every season, we'd be snookered. That's why it's great having the ups and downs of the lower leagues rather than the guaranteed (& very boring) success of the Chelski, Man U, Liverpool etc. It must be really boring supporting a club that rarely loses.... Go on think about it...
