I think a thank you should go out to Gerry Murphy. 4 wins out of 5 in the league has meant the new management team can look up the table rather than down. Also winning at Ellend Road (he has an amazing record in derby games) In my opinion we defiantly deserved more out the two games we lost, although did not deserve anything against Walsall. Allowing Flynn to go out on loan seems baffling especially with a new manager about to come in, but overall Murphy (and Mitchell) have done the job they were required to do. They both deserve a big thank you regardless of the result at Southend.

Its impressive the way he does manage to get wins out of players who weren't performing too well. That's three times he's done it now....

Aye, you can't really fault him on his record. He's even turned us into a good footballing side in the space of a month. Taken from the BBC website: Southend manager, Steve Tilson - "When a new manager comes in you're always looking to impress, so it's not an ideal time to play them.
"No doubt about it, it will be a tough game, they're a good footballing side and should be looking to make the play-offs with the budget they have got."
Doesn't take long for the word to get around. We were hoof and hope a few weeks ago. Anyway, a point would do for me down there, especially with the old fox Dougie Freeman being available for them.

If LC works out I think it won't be too long before Gerry finally decides to retire, leaving Mitchell to carry on his work with the Academy, makes sense to me.

I think he was wrong to loan out Flynn and dropped Glennon for the wrong reasons, but they are minor points really, another good job as caretaker and I'm sure we'll thank him down at Southend tomorrow. He can go back to his day job feeling proud about what he's done. I really hope the first team don't need him again.

Nah Paul under Murphy we've beaten L**ds, Brighton and Walsall (lost to Orient)
As a club the run is 4 wins from 5 in the League (inc. Ternents win against Crewe)
Full credit to the GM's, yet again they've taken a squad on there uppers and handed the new manager a first team in much better shape than what they took on just a few weeks since - job well done you two (again)!

I know, that's what I'm saying, the original post seemed to be crediting Murphy with 4 league wins out of 5. I'm saying its only been 3 out of 4 under Murphy.

I stand corrected. Thinking about it we did win that last game of Ternants. Apologies. On Flynn I just think its strange to put the new manager in a position where he cant look at a midfielder who has scored a few until January. Is it possible Gerry was told to try and trim the wage bill by Hoyle. Three players have gone out on loan, Dickinson and Jones loans not renewed, Beckett gone. Perhaps trying to gain extra funds in January for new man. Letting the two young lads go out on loan makes sense and possibly should be part of Gerry's job as Director of Football Development to help facilitate such loans if he feels they are apropriate. Allowing Beckett to leave is something that has been on the cards all season, although it could be argued that the new manager a chance to make his own mind up on a striker with an excellent goal scoring record. A Caretaker manager should not be able to use up loan signings and extra budget so Dickenson and Jones could not stay, but allowing a first team midfielder to go out on loan seems strange at a very busy time of the year. It is not as if he was injured for a long time, so cant need match fitness so badly. Maybe more to it than revealed. Flynn was a Ternant man. Perhaps Murphy allowed him to go because of this. Perhaps Flynn was creating disharmony within the squad because of his attitude towards Ternant. I think the most likely was budget pressures and Murphy felt that we could afford to let a midfielder go been as we had so many.
Anyway all this is besides the point. Murphy and Mitchell have done a great job even if it is only 3 wins out of 4 in the league and deserve thanking.

Yet again Gerry and Mitch have steadied a ship through stormy waters!
A big thank you lads as the new management team have inherited a far healthier and confident squad than the one that was in danger of sinking under the last management team.

Another excellent spell in charge. Got players so lacking in confidence and looking totally demoralised and fearfull under Turnip, and immediately had them playing with confidence and looking like they enjoy it. Shame we didn't bring him in a few weeks earlier cos we'd be in the play-off places now.
