sell him if they make a silly offer, said it before, palace reportedly offered £1.5M for Pavel few years ago, following season he was off to swansea for £80k; if alex has a chance to join a top club like chelsea, not fair to hold his career back, but for once make we sure we have clauses based on £ for debut, appearances, england cap etc etc etc

waste his carreer if he went at this stage, get no where near first team for years, get forgotten about or spend his time out on loan,if we got a decent offer i would sell though, hes a prospect ,a good one,but no better than glennon yet and eastwood is also a good prospect, the money could go on a much needed left back and striker.

If Chelsea offer us enough let's sell him. Has to in excess of £1m with additional clauses.

waste his carreer if he went at this stage, get no where near first team for years in a way i agree with you-bit like bostock movin from palace to spurs-he was playin a fair few games for palace, hes now at spurs n im not sure hes even managed to get on the bench, let alone on the pitch

Even players that have done well in the Prem struggle at the top Prem clubs. Look at Sidwell when he moved to Chelski, hardly any games there. Doing ok at Villa now.

At the end of the day the only important thing is if there is going to be a deal, that it's a good one for us. Smithies can make his own decisions and I'm sure he'll be aware of the consequences of it

We have NO need to sell him. WE have finances in place to bring new players in during January.

Is there a link to this rumour on a website?

It seems the rumour is purely that Chelsea are looking for English players.
That aside if Hilarrio went for £10m I dont think we should sell for a penny less than £25m.

Id take 5 million for him, we could bring in a few decent signings for that amount.

We have NO need to sell him. WE have finances in place to bring new players in during January. true but why not sell if the price is right?i actually prefer him to glennon but hes not that much better if at all,say a big offer came in what we use to strenthen, any money we had is saved, good buisness sense, just cos we have a bit doesnt mean we should throw it about,we have 3 keepers all around the same ability, losing one wont be a hardship.

He wouldn't get near the bench at the moment. If it were to happen then the best thing for all parties would surely be a loan back to us starting with the rest of this season and then next season too.

Young english keeper + in england squad + breaks into 1st team + chelsea after english players = Let's put it all together and link them...
Wouldn't surprise me if they are looking at him, but he's been the england under 17 keeper at a world cup finals, I'd be more surprised if any top flight club wasn't keeping an eye on him to be honest! It deons't mean they're about to make a bid.
If they do, tell them where to go now and let them come back when he has played more games and more teams are after him... unless it is a stupid sum e.g. Over £2m - in which case consider with £X after y games, £xk after england call up, 50% sell on clause to protect yourself if he does go on to bigger things (likely imo) or if he moves on from whoever signed him (again, likely).

just cos a paper said they are going for young english players doesn't mean it is smithies. There are alot of other good young english goalies. The paper didnt mention any names

We have NO need to sell him. WE have finances in place to bring new players in during January. WE would be silly to turn down a stupid offer regardless of how much money we have to spend in Jan Hoyle and Davy does not equal Roman Abramovic

since when has paper talk been acurate though? highly unlikley but if they did, im sure we would try recoup some of the money stan wassted. Its a bit unfair comparing Glennon and Smithies though, Goalies will always mature and get better with experience so we're looking at potential and smithies certainly has that if he is coached and developed correctly. He might not be any better right now, but Glennon isnt likley to improve much more is he? Smithies can only get better and better....IMO... Lee Clark to be new Town boss

I don't think we should let him go with the team Chelsea have got there is not much of a chance of the lad getting a look at been there number 1 keeper or even there number 2 keeper even if they do give us a good amount of money for him are we really that short of money i dont feel we are

Surely the Russian guy in this credit crunch era won`t even be thinking of spending money? and as for a reputed 8 million quid I don`t think so
