Although not having a save of note to make, i thought he was poor today. His kicking was the worst i've seen from him. He did claim a few good crosses. Lets just hope it was a one off.

He made at least 2 good saves!! apart from his kicking he looked solid, especially when he gave "the tw*t" a little shoulder charge for good luck!

Put 2-3 kicks into touch? Hardly worth crucifying is it? You neglected to mention the 1 fine save in the first half and a couple of quick/kicks throws that led directly to an attack...

A solid game from Smithies.
Lets not get worried about a couple of dodgy kicks, happens to every keeper from time to time.

Since coming into the team his kicking has got worse and was the best aspect of his game. Seems the coaching might not be of the best calibre. No need for the sarcy cheer from the panasonic though.
However, he was out of his box quickly on a number of occassions where Glennon would have been on his line wondering whether to come or not and end up costing us a goal.

One of his kicks set up an attack; it's hardly abysmal. Keepers are told to kick to the flanks; as it's better for it to go out of play than land at the feet of an opposition player in the middle of the pitch, yeah I'll admit a couple of his kicks were poor today, but they weren't persistently poor and didn't endanger us at all.
He's a very good, alert goalkeeper. I was impressed at how quickly he came out and got rid of the ball when there was a danger of it drifting through to their striker. I didn't go to Carlisle; where I hear he was at fault for at least one of the goals, but in the home games I've seen since he came into the side, he's conceded two. One today which he didn't have a chance with and one against Walsall, which he also couldn't be expected to save.

Erath calling town fans - he's aiming for cadamarteri's head on the right wing! Seems sensible to me - cadders (good in the air) v their full back...v jevons/parker against their 7ft centre halves. If I hear, 'he's sliced it again' ....
Sure, his kicking wasn't brilliant today but I think his passing (and I'd call it that rather than kicking) is very good for a keeper overall.
The lad made an excellent save from a daisycutter - pushing it for a corner when it would have been easy to have played it into the oncoming players path. Also put the deflected shot out.
Off his line and collected when needed and swept up well.

Lets all just not get carried away and remember that Alex Smithies is still only 18 which is very young for a first team goalkeeper. He could still be playing in 20 years time so he has a long time to get everything right.

He could easily hit it straight down the middle, and have it coming straight back at us all game due to parker/jevon's inability to win a header... it's clear it tends to go out of play a little more, because he is been told to hit it out wide. Cads gets plenty of joy in the air and battles well for it down there.

I just find it really annoying how if it had been Glennon who had been kicking it into touch, everyone would have been giving him stick and saying he was crap.

I dont think anyone ever gave glennon stick for a kick into touch did they?(maybe boxster ;D) I certainly did for a slow dive over a shot close to his body though. Smithies is 5 times more agile than Glenda... Stick with this kid he's gonna be the no. 1 for many many years hopefully!

Yeah, it was just an added annoyance with Glennon, to put on top of his inconsistency. It wasn't the reason he was so frustrating.

i still maintain that if we had started the seson with smithies in net we would have had an extra 10 points, dont get me started on glennon he scares me in the nets i feel alot more confident with smithies, his kicking was bad today but that was it and had no chance with their goal
smithies to stay in net for me no question
