Ian Greaves for me, I reckon Lee Clark may turn out better but can he equal Herbert Chapman.

Always thought Greaves inherited a pretty good side, a lot of the players who got promotion were already here. Sir Michael of Buxton for me. Two promotions, building different teams each time. Could have gone the whole way, but lost his nerve.

Of the mighty TOWN: Herbert Chapman - "without a shadow of a doubt???"
Overall: Bob Paisley - 3 European Cups takes a bit of beating - not forgetting numerous League Championships

THE GOOD
Mick Buxton Neil Warnock Peter Jackson Lou Macari(thought he did good job considering) Steve Bruce(for a spell, best football i've seen Town play) Gerry Murphy
THE NON-DESCRIPT
Eoin Hand Iain Ross
then all the shite(in no order):
Wadsworth MacDonald Ritchie Ternent Smith Machin
who have i missed(since 1980)
i give in.
I think we may just have found the new best one though ;D

Brian Horton was decent.... first season, good side.... Mostly Warnocks side! Tho to be fair had stewart and morrison not suffered with injuries then we would prob have had a real crack at the playoffs 96-97

In the last 30 years, the time I've been watching Town:
Buxton, obviously Hand - would have taken us up had it not been for injury to Chris Marsden, team played great football Warnock, obviously Jackson, had and has his limitations, but did a pretty damned good job on two occasions Bruce, the best Town team I have ever seen and unfairly blamed for the failings of others (selling Marcus wasn't his doing)

mick buxton for me, head and shoulders above the rest, rescued us from what was then the re-election zone (i.e. bottom4/division 4) wheeled and dealed to bring in other clubs' rejects and misfits and put a team together who played exciting football and scored 101 league goals in winning promotion in 1979/80; OK it was div 4 but he did the same again a few years later to win promotion from div 3, 2 promotions with basically different squads squashes that right man/right place/right time scenario.
anyone remember that canny scot tom johnson - he laid the foundations for ian greaves' 1969/70 team?
greaves/jackson/warnock all worth a mention, but buxton for me.

Agree with that 100%- just about a year too young to remember Johnson

anyone remember that canny scot tom johnson - he laid the foundations for ian greaves' 1969/70 team? I believe that Tom Johnson brought in a certain lanky peice of rubbish called Malcolm Brown in his second spell. Also, Buxton came back to help Ross in 93 and led a Great Escape equal to Jacko's.

He inherited one of the worst teams in Huddersfield's history and almost miraculously kept us up. For me, it has to be Jacko simply, because his contribution to the club was phenomenal in both spells.

Bruce told the board he could get a better player than Stewart, so it was OK to sell him.

It can only be Mick Buxton
He put a team together that played fast flowing football that produced goals galore. Some of the players are the best that have played for Town in the last 30 years.
Brown Stanton Fletcher Kindon Robins Cowling ( best crosser of the ball I've seen at town. Unjustly critisised in his time (me included but I was only 10).
just to name a few.

Machin? Are you sure? We were appalling when he took over and he did well considering he had nothing to work with! Seem to remember a lot of fans being disappointed when he left
