For anyone who didnt see it rooney walked over to corner flag, touched the ball out of the D and walked away. Giggs walks over as if to take it then ran towards goal and crossed for Ronaldo to "score". Was pretty much identical to what we used to do with Brando.... Why wasnt it allowed?

Yeah..what happened to that little trick of ours??
Guess the difference is Manc that we used to tell the linesman that the corner had been taken and the lino would generally allow it.

Was identical to the trick Brando used to do. It worked quite well 'sometimes'.

Brando didn't start the trend though. We used to do it YEARS ago, but I can't remember who was involved. Have a feeling it was the Steve Doyle, Daryl Pugh era. No doubt someone will come along and date it!

Apparently it was disallowed because Rooney didn't tell the lino what he was doing. So the lino thought they'd taken a 'foul' corner.

It looked like the lino dodn't see it taken so flagged for a foul corner and web whistled as the cross went in before the goal was scored. After the game andy gray quoted webb as saying it was within the laws of the game but against the spirit of it so it was ungentlemanly conduct.

If Rooney had of just said "lino I'm taking it now" everything would have been ok but he didn't. He then had a right pop at the poor lino who looked like he was going to cry.

how many teams will try that trick now we will almost certainly see this every other week As most of the country now knows about it, I don't think we will. Believe it or not but the pub team I used to play for (20+ years ago) used that corner trick. We used to tell the ref what we were up to tho.

I like to see this type of invovation at set plays. One of my old moves was to spray the ball out wide with the first touch from the kick off/restart. That one caught the suckers out everytime.
Anyone else got any???

We used to do the corner trick on a Sunday morning about 5 years ago. We used to have to tell the referee prior to the match what we'd do so he's realise what we were going to do.... The liner should be a bit embarrassed for not watching the game under his nose to be honest.

Why should he have to tell the linesman he's gonna take it?
You don't have to inform them when, and in which particular manner, you are about to take a goal kick or a throw in!

You don't have to tell the linesman but as it's a sly and rare trick a sunday morning referee would often miss it and blow for the retake - however it doesn't seem exclusive to just sunday league referees

Nothing too original, but used to have a trick where when we had a freekick within shooting range, 2 of us would hover over the ball arguing like fluk who was going to take it. When the ref was ready another guy who had been hovering behind not really paying attention would appear from nowhere and have a crack at goal. Good idea, came from an ex pro (who now works with the PFA) but wasn't that successful for us (probably why were in the lower regions of the Hudds District League). ;D ;D

I thought it was disallowed as the ref was still telling off some Chelsea players so it wasn't taken to quick?

Scoring from the re-take certainly saved Howard Webb a bit of aggro!

liverpool tried it not long after we were using it with brando. I'd be telling my mate, who is a liverpool fan, about it. Later that evening pool used it in a match. They told the linesman what they were doing, and he didn't flag, but the referee still blew for a foul corner.

You tell the liner because they'd have kicked up a fuss had a chelsea player tracked giggs and launched the ball up to the other end
