From Yorkshire Post.........
McDermott also feels the club houses a handful of players with the talent to grace the Premiership, though the assistant manager isn't mentioning any names.
And McDermott's belief that those Premier ambitions can be fulfilled at the Galpharm will be music to the ears of Huddersfield fans.
"The other difference I've noticed is in training with the players," added McDermott, a former European Cup winner with Liverpool and an ex-England international.
In the Premier League they have maybe got that extra bit of quality but, at this level, you cannot afford to do that – although the quality is here as well and I believe we have got two or three players here who can play at that high level.
"When I say at a high level I mean in the Premier League, but don't ask me to name them!"
So, who do you reckon the handful of players are at town who could grace the Premiership?..............

Smithies has the potential Nathan Clarke , Roberts and Collins would all not look out of place in an average premier team IMO. Theyd benefit from having better players around them. Theres some very ordinary players in the prem. Anyone who saw Zakora play for Spurs yesterday can't tell me we don't have individual players of his standard at least

I'd agree with Nathan Clarke. Not sure about Roberts - who is fantastic at this, and probably Championship level, but would he get that much room to run against better midfields and defences?
I think Collins could do it (so shoot me down....!) and Smithies, but I reckon TD has more than that in mind..........unless it's just mind games to make them feel good?.......!!

Roberts, Clarke, Holdsworth COULD if they were consistantly at their best. There is a bigger difference between the world class players like Ronaldo and Torres and prem cloggers like Bramble and Zakora than the difference between the prem cloggers and decent league 1 players.

We have a few championship standard players and maybe smithies has the potential to be premiership standard other than that I don't think we have any

very harsh on skarz huddratt. he has obvious talent and coached in right way which he now will be, he has a chance of playing higher.

I think the thing with Holdsworth is his consistency, he tends to play well more often than not, thats what gets you up the divisions.

Nathan Clarke has been called all sorts on here over the past year, but to be fair he's stuck at it and is probably the player who would most easily make the transition. Not sure who the others may be, cant see it being Roberts. Possibly Collinsn and Berret, maybe Smithies or Cads?

When I said Holdsworth I meant Holdsworth the midfielder not Holdsworth the right back.

For outfield players at least, one of the real differences between the divisions is pace. You don't see that many real carthorses at premiership level any more. Players who have athleticism as well as ability always have the potential to get better.
Nigel Clough is a very good illustration: quality footballer with great vision, but always short of the little bit of gas that would have made him genuinely top class.
Collins' athleticism marks him out as a player who has the potential to perform at a higher level. He needs to work like hell if he's ever going to get there, but the raw material is there.

He's got a nice left foot but I don't think he's got the engine, natural pace, defensive intelligence and confidence to play at a higher level than we're at now - I would love to be proved wrong though.

Well, it's positive that most of the suggestions on here are at least for the homegrown talent we have - would be a shame if none of the lads TD is talking about were academy products..............

Lets keep this thread going and soon we will have a full team of players with premiership potential.

Well, I think it would be bloody fantastic if one or two of the academy lads made it into the Premiership - we hark on about having a great academy so it's about time we proved it!

Alex Smithies, Andy Holdsworth, James Berrett, Michael Collins I'd agree but say Gary Roberts also. More so than Michael Collins and Andy Holdsworth.

Roberts might scrape a game for Hull or Stoke. Smithies can aim a bit higher in a couple of years.

If you ask me he is on drugs if he thinks there are players in our team which could be playing in the Premiership.
They made a complete lash of Saturdays fixture. What incentive do these guys need.
We have Blackie who is getting into their heads making them feel more positive and dynamic. Firstly they need a brain to take on board what he is saying.
