Wonder if Clark and McDermott were at Gateshead again yesterday to see Novak score another two in a 5-1 victory over top of the table Tamworth (and had 2 more disallowed for offside)? That's 17 in 17 games - might be a level below the conference but obviously know's where the net is

But surely would not be ready to take the step up to 1st team League 1? We need someone who can come in and start straight away, not another Denton?

Its still not a bad level of football to be getting a goal a game. If that halved at league 1 level we'd still be laughing!

A record like that cannot be ignored! Even if he wasn't considered ready for the first team at Town just yet, it sounds like he'd still be worth a gamble. Maybe sign him and loan him back to Gateshead for the rest of the season.
I watch Hampton & Richmond occasionally, who are near the top of the Conference South (same level as Gateshead). They have a young striker called Ben Wright who is apparently attracting interest (he's played in a couple of reserve games for Reading), but his scoring record doesn't compare with Novak's!

Stead made the leap from League 2 to Premiership (3 divisions) and did well in his first season, granted he's not as prolific now but's it's about application, if the lad can create space for himself and he gets the ball the nets are the same size and he still only has one keeper to beat.

I hear what you are saying but I would be very surprised if they took a player from that low down, particularly given that they have stated they are actually looking at higher levels.......

Yes, but Clark is also planning for the long term. He's only young, it would seem to make perfect sense to pick up a promising young striker like Lee Novak; other clubs do it. People are writing Denton off, but it was always going to take at least a year before he was going to get anywhere near the first team. I'll bet you Novak leaves Gateshead before very long.

"again"?
I think it was on an earlier thread that they were both spotted at Gateshead for their New Year's day match. He scored in that match as well I believe!
