just because hes done better recently (which i agree with) doesnt mean hes allowed to turn his back rather than actually trying to get stuck in and at the very least attempt to block the shot-if he genuinely tried to block but was unable to,fair enough, but to basically just turn his back?not good enough

Does robbie williams get a rating of -4 out of 10 from you?

he didnt turn his back. he slipped mate No, he turned his back to try and get his left foot in the way of the shot. If hed gone with his right he might have blocked it. Has been playing better lately though but that was a rank poor effort.

he didnt turn his back. he slipped mate strange that,as clearly on the virgin media highlights it may only show possibly the smallest of slips but he still managed to get close and did actually turn his back-given the ball wasnt too far off the ground, even just sliding across the grass to try and block the ball wudve had more chance of being successful than the way he tried

Any chance to get on Williams' back and some will take it! Time to move on now and get behind everyone of them. We can't have a full team of Bullocks or Kennedys can we?

He has been much much better since carlisle, but can anyone really say that after over a year with the club he is the answer at left back? I will always back him when his effort is there, but as Kieran indicated on RL after Sat's game, we need a new left back as well as striker to push for the play offs. A good one would not only improve us defensively, but would also provide more space and quality for roberts to do his stuff further up the pitch. Skarz simply hasnt improved enough ....yet and Unsworth is past it - really hope we get one in this mth.

Early this season I gave Robbie some stick (on here, but backed him at the games). The reason I did this was that he looked to have put weight on between the 2 seasons.
Some people said "he's been injured" but so had Cadamarteri and he came back looking sharper and slimmer and it annoyed me that Williams returned a similar time to Cads but looked as if he had done nothing all Summer.
Now he has worked and lost that extra carriage and even had to sit on the bench whilst Joe Skarz was in the team and has just waited his turn and appears to be taking it.
Williams has changed my mind on him a bit lately (even though I think he is poor positionally). I think he is the best left back we have at the moment.

I would agree that in general terms Williams game has improved but IMO this incident showed a piece of his game that is deffinately lacking. Have you watched the replay? what do you say about the casual way he turns his back and pull out of the tackle on Akinfenwa? I would have posted the thread had it been Holdsworth, Butler odr Clarke, I would have been scathing no matter which player it was.

I agree with you that there are a few aspects of Robbie's game that are pretty weak. I think the responses you got for this is the fact that Robbie has quietly been improving and had somebody like Andy Holdsworth made the same effort, he would not have had a thread about it

The thing is with Williams is that if he irons out some of the poor parts of his game and I believe he is slowly starting to do this he will become a great player.
The reality is that he's the best left back at the club, Unsworth is unfortunately past it and Skarz is gash.

he has got better, but he was terrible before and has only been average (a marked improvement nonetheless) for the last few games (since the Carlisle debacle)
i hope the rumour that we are trailling a left back and a striker is true - would show that Lee Clark recognises where the weaknesses are in the squad (and even William's biggest fan must admit left back is a position we have struggled for a while in - since Tom Cowan??)
he is the best left back at the club but i see him as the lesser of three evils rather than believing in his abilities as a footballer.

He couldn't get much worse.
We need someone better and more consistent if we're serious about establishing ourselves a division higher.

Hes ok going forward but his defending is consistantly pretty poor IMO. Taking into account his age, I think Skarz is the one id rather keep if one had to go. Not as good as Williams attack-wise but better at defending.

Robbie williams - sorry to say this but he is the weakest link no doubt about it - I will forgive him any misdemeanors against Northampton cos to me the pitch wasnt fit. What I can't forgive is him tinning out of headers -not having a clue about spatial awareness - he passes a ball and stands still, he makes a tackle and thinks job done - how many times does he get just caught out - SIMPLE FACT IS HE HAS LOOKED BETTER RECENTLY COS BUTLER AND CLARKE ARE CARRYING HIM AND COVERING FOR HIM SIMPLE AS - sorry if we want to improve then he is the first to go no doubt about it - rant over
