Motherwell striker Chris Porter has turned his back on a move to Huddersfield said to be worth £200,000.
Fir Park manager Mark McGhee accepted an offer from the English League One club while Hearts are reportedly looking to sign the former Oldham player on a pre-contract agreement.
But McGhee told the Scottish Daily Express that Porter, 25,
is unlikely to be going anywhere until the summer.
He said: "I have spoken to Chris and as things stand he won't be going to Huddersfield.
"We have given Huddersfield permission to speak to Chris, but he has indicated that it isn't really a move he fancies.
"He came up to Motherwell to further his career and then to return to England at a higher level and he feels going to Huddersfield defeats that purpose.
"I think his agent will speak to Huddersfield out of courtesy and unless they make him an unbelievable offer, I think he's likely to stay at Motherwell until the end of the season."

sounds like 200k is what lees got to play with,i know he has a few so called big bids in but surley if one comes off the others look like being withdrawn, and im afraid 200k doesnt look to be enough money to get the sort of striker we need!!

does sound that way,and in that case (if he really is after the money) if i was clark i'd tell his agent not to bother coming,as he doesnt want players who are only after money

100% agree there-clubs know they can inflate the prices during the window because they know teams really need players and that if they need them badly enough, they'll pay whatever it takes

Thank god we don't need 'em 'badly'. Because simple fact is we don't! Get a loan in maybe (at a push) then push on for next season. It'll be all in place then IMO.

This guy has obviously got history.
He engineered a 'Bosman' move to Motherwell knowing that they could pay him an over inflated salary by avoiding paying a transfer fee.
He knew that by scoring regularly he could probably attract a move to a Championship side and an even larger salary.
Disappointing as I still think he is a good player, from what I have seen. However any move he makes seems to be based purely around maximising his own income.
Even with our setup, L1 is proving to be a difficult environment to attract players to ply their trade. We can't guarantee to any prospective signing that we will go up, only that we hope to.

Sounds like Porter plans to do to Motherwell what he did to Oldham; Wait for his contract to expire to negotiate a better deal with no transfer fee. Motherwell clearly wanted the cash for him. He would have done the same to us in 2 or 3 years so clearly a mecenary player. Lets hope he doesn't break a leg before the season end!

The simple problem is we are 3rd division! The potential is here but convincing players to be part of it in this day and age is difficult.
Loans only i reckon until the summer. We are not an attractive proposition at the moment, even with Lee Clark's contacts!

We don't want greedy players, Porter would be a good signing, However the team we have now are playing for the Club, Playing for each other, with passion, If porter is just after the big pay-cheque and is just playing for the money, I personally don't want him in the team.

Thank god we don't need 'em 'badly'. Because simple fact is we don't! You really think that? It's a glaring deficiency to me that we just don't look like scoring in most games despite at times demonstrating good passing and movement. Shame Porter doesn't want to join but you can't blame him really. When I change employer in my own career it has to be for an improvement, so I can understand why he wouldn't want to go back to the same level he was at 2 years ago. We're a mid table L1 team and for all our positivity and optimism that means nothing to people on the outside looking in unfortunately.

They are all greedy, most of us are too ;D They don't have any affection for Town before they come here unless of course they are Town fans (like Denton!). It's a job for them, but also a job they love or at least should do! Porter is no more a mercenary tham most other players. Hope he changes his mind, but looks unlikely.

If he isn`t banging on Lee Clark`s door saying "let me sign" he can stay where he is!! CORRECT! He should be chasing Clark around the office with a pen to sign a contract! Thats the sort of player i want at the club.

What I meant is that if we don't get anyone in this window than it isn't all bad. I hope we do get some bugger in who's gonna be on the end of all these crosses from Cads & Robbo.

I can see your point about if you look for a new employer you look for it to be an Improvement. When I look at a potential new employer I look at the bigger picture, look at Future Prospects, See where I could be in 2 Years time. If porter wants success hes gonna have to work for it anywhere he goes. just like the rest of us.

No necessarily, I think Clark get us some good players who want to play for us. Maybe we will have to wait for success next year, But I'm confident success is on its way.

When I look at a potential new employer I look at the bigger picture, look at Future Prospects, See where I could be in 2 Years time. I hear what you're saying and you're right but in the case of a footballer they have a very short career compared to you and me, they have to get every move right if they want to get where they want get to. From his perspective (prob out of touch with L1 affairs) he looks at us as being worse than Oldham as he looks at the tables albeit with better crowds. If he hasn't spoken to Clark why should he think any different, but then he is foolish not to even talk to us and see what we have to say about ourselves.

If he isn`t banging on Lee Clark`s door saying "let me sign" he can stay where he is!! Good in theory but that means we can rule out all players at a higher level than ourselves. No one is going to "bang the door down" to sign for a team one or two divisions lower than their current club. Doesn't mean they can't come and show professionalism and desire to do well for us even if we aren't their idea of a dream move.

Well, it was obvious.
He went to Scotland so he had a better chance of getting a Championship/Premiership move, why would he come to us?

Grayson is rumoured to be interested too, maybe that's why he turned you down.
To be honest, I'm not sure if he'd be an improvement on what we already have.
