Clark mentioned in the interview that clubs have made contacts with our players, and some of them are talking to these clubs now, he wouldn't mention any names, but I'm getting increasingly worried with the fact that smithies hasn't signed a new contract yet!! Oggy also said that the everton goalkeeping coach was in the stadium today. I really hope we can keep hold of him as i feel he could have a very successful career with town.

"I have had various enquires for one or two of our players and I spoke to those players, because I like to be open and honest with them. However, that is as far as those enquires have gone."

If we get the right offer (£1m+ and sell ons etc), then we will have to sell him BUT if we do, we need to ensure we keep him on loan for the rest of the season. Think 3 or 4 may go out on loan this week and at least 2 in.

If we get a decent offer for smithies i'd take it - we wouldnt miss him IMO and the money COULD be very useful.

I don't think its very fair to say we wont miss him! True we could do alot with the money, but i like the way he rolls the ball out to the defenders whenever possible, he's a great shot stopper, and butler said the other day he's always communicating with the back four! So in my opinion we would miss him

The money we get could make the difference between being able to sign 2 top strikers and maybe not getting any ! that is a reasonable swap for me.

i have to say if we let him go it will be nothing short of a disgrace. this lad has quality coming off his shit let alone his hands. for 18 yrs old what a gem we`ve got down here.

You say "he has had his chances" ... but he was playing well when he was dropped!
It's not as though he played himself out of the team - he'd just won Man of the Match, saved a penalty ... and kept a clean sheet away at Brighton followed by {b]one[/b] mistake in an otherwise decent game against Leyton Orient.

No it wont - providing we get the right money, use it to strengthen elsewhere and get sell ons and maybe keep him on loan. We have to face facts - if the big clubs come a knocking with big bucks, until we are an established champ club we will have to sell! I would love to see him stay for a long time, but if he develops as we all think he may, then it could be shorter than we hope!

thing is tho we wont get to be established in the championship if we let our better players go. to get there you`ve got to have a good team and good teams always have a quality goalkeeper. glennon is not a quality goalkeeper but smithies is.

OF course I'd rather not let him go - he is a class apart and its easy to remember he is only 18! - in goalkeeping terms, that's very very young.
I'd much rather keep him - he's only going to get better and better, but nobody is irreplacebale. If we get a silly offer i.e. £1m + sell on clause + apps bonus etc, we'd have to consider it.
But as for the everton gk coach being here, it doesn't mean they're about to bid for him! He was the englabnd u 17 keeper at the world cup...every premiership team will be keeping tabs on his progress.

God knows how many scouts have been watching our players over the last few years, i bet theres at least one scout at every game. However, the only player whos actually been headhunted by a club's scouts in recent years is Jon Stead. Just because scouts are watching our players doesn't necessarily mean theyre employers are ready to make a bid.
