I did not jump straight in and proclaim this kid to be the best thing since sliced bread. As a matter of fact I have felt that he is still a very raw talent.
However I thought he was excellent today. It was a good game to judge a keeper because we had all the possession but when he was called into play as he was on a number of occassions he dealt with everything very well indeed and showed he has the concentration levels needed to be a top keeper.
I have also noted that he has cut back on the suicidal throw outs that marked many of his early displays for me.
Well done son.
He must be a bit unlucky though because he seems to concede a goal of the season strike every week.

good distribution especially with his throwing. Some may criticise his kicking going straight into tocuh from back passes but i'd rather see it in touch than in the back of the net!

He will obviously be working on the kicking from back passes and kicking in general.... I really think he is top class for a young lad and I feel so so much more confident with him, his saves and handling is excellent. keep it up, earnt the shirt.

I think the kicking 'problem' is down to the fact that he only has Cad's head to aim for, which is usually 6 feet in from the touchline.

It was mentioned on the Radio that Everton's GK coach Chris Woods was at the Galph today. Sure he'd be pleased with what he saw.

He's simply brilliant. As a big Glennon fan I was gutted when Murphy brought him in (and I'd still question his reasons for doing so), but this lad is just a class above.

But what does it matter, after the performances Smithies put in I'm glad he did it.

Smithies is top drawer. Although sat in the PL today someone behind me unbelievably had a go at Smithies for not making more of an attempt at that goal and spent the remainder of the game blazing him... Some people are incredibley stupid.. Thankfully his mates put him in his place.

I'd rather he kick to Cad's who MAY win a header, then Parker and Jevons who WON'T win a header....

I may be wrong but I don't think he conceded a 'goal of the season' today, it looked to me like it took a deflection and wrong footed him. Wouldn't blame Smithies for that as much as the ball watching sitting back having a rest players in front of him who should have known better than to invite pressure on themselves at that stage.

We seem to struggle against 10 men. It was the same under Jacko, Ritchie and Ternant so it may be down to the players perhaps more than the manager. I have faith in Clark to do something about it however.

He will learn from his mistakes sooner rather than later. You notice hints of it but a lot better than glenda. Hopefully next season will bring the best out of him. (heres that we still have him) Anyone know any information regarding his contract ?

He looked lost when it came to crosses going above his head. He didn't move on Collins' goal but where I was sat I couldn't see whether it deflected or anything. If I was a scout watching him, I'd have to go and see him again to see if this was just an off day.

He made a good save from Jevons in the first half and looked like he'd be a tough nut to crack. Not sure he could do much about either of the goals. And regarding Smithies; have Everton got sufficient money to sign him? We're not going to let him go for peanuts...

The swindon keeper made a number of good saves which he won't get the credt for but were perfectly good saves - which didn't look as good as they were as his positioing was good and stature didn't mean he had to dive. Examples being the save from jevons, butler's flicked header, roberts shot above his head.
Went walkabouts once, but if he hadn't have played imo we would have won by more.

(only silly money i hope) There's no point in letting him go for a million or so now when he'll be worth £5-10 in a couple of years if he lives up to his potential. If we're serious about getting to the Premiership then we can't afford to sell players like Smithies at the first bid.

Despite the obvious and popular homage to the man, I can see him being England's #1 by the next European Championships. Next World Cup is probably too soon.
