he made some cracking signings but the formation was wrong 4 5 1 or was it something like 4 3 3 with dickinson on his own with roberts and caders supporting but miles better now that the two wingers are kept out wide

I still feel sorry for him and feel he would have dragged us into the top six this season. Much of our success will be down to the transfers & decisions he was brave enough to make during his short tenure. Nothing that has happened since or will happen in the future can change my opinion on that.
That said I'm absolutly bowled over by the new regime.

He made the right signings but was let down by his man management. Anyway can we stop with this 'I hate Stan' obsession once and for all and just be happy about where we are heading.

Agreed - the constant mention gets tedious!
"Ternent never ..." "It's better than Ternent ..." "Atleast we don't have turnip ..."
He made some good signings ... and I think we'd have done okay under his leadership ... he needed time. That said, Lee Clark & Co are doing a very good job so far ... and things are looking up!

He made SOME good signings, he made a couple of terrible signings. He was a terrible tactician and awful with man management. The football he played was unsuccessful and unattractive He left out some of our better players and also seemed to get the worst out of other good players. If we had ST until the end of the season I think we would have finished 13th or 14th with a goal difference of about -10.
I can not see why he gets talked about so much since he left though. He was a crap manager but so what? It was a few dire months but now we have a bright future to focus on and I kinow which of the 2 managers I'd rather focus on talking about.

Stan Ternent was the wrong man for this football club and to be honest i can't see him getting another managers job he is a dinosaur. We made the right decsion to dispense with his services when he did.
Stan had the biggest budget a town manager has had since Bruce in the Rubbery era and he wasted a large part of it. In my opinion Lucketti, Unsworth, Flynn and Parker were all a complete waste of money. He has saddled us with players on big wages that don't have the ability and or commitment to take this club forward. Butler, Goodwin, Roberts and to a lesser extent Craney look very good signings.
He brought in a lot of players but did not fill the gaping holes someone to play on the other wing and a natural goal scorer were must haves and he failed. He marginalised the players who had come through the academy not rating Holdsworth, Clarke, Worthington, Collins or Berrett although he did have to bring worthy and clarke back into the side when his signings proved not to be good enough.
The football Stan served up bar the Sheffield United friendly and a easy victory against a poor bradford side was abysmal. He split the supporter base right down the middle with people thinking he should be given time and others wanting him out from pretty much day one. Over time more people moved into the stan out camp.
Stan is the kind of manager who only cares about the 11-16 players who are out there doing it for him on a saturday afternoon the rest just don't matter. There is also a mentality that everything before him was rubbish and little huddersfield needed stan the man to sort it out and he would make us great again and it would be all down to him. BOLLOCKS
Look at the difference with Lee Clark he appreciates the clubs history it's structure and what is good about what is already here. He wants to take every single person at the club with him on this journey onwards and upwards from the star players to the tea lady. The players not in the sixteen are complimented as musch as those doing it on a Saturday.
We have a fantastic chairman elect in Dean Hoyle a great up and coming manager in Lee Clark and a back room coaching staff that would not look out of place in the premier league.
The day Stan Ternent ws sacked this club took a giant step forward. Gerry and Mitch steadied the ship, got the players morale up and started playing football. Hoyle and whoever else was involved behind the scenes brought the right man to the club in Lee Clark and backed him to bring in the staff he wanted. Given the rumours and Clarks comments it is obvious that he is getting the right backing in the transfer market.

Much of our success will be down to the transfers & decisions he was brave enough to make during his short tenure. Nothing that has happened since or will happen in the future can change my opinion on that. What transfers and decisions did he make that you can call "brave"? With the backing of Dean, any manager could have brought in a few decent players. He in fact brought in too many, and just seemed to pick players he knew without any thought as to the eventual playing formation. Add to that his unfortunate manner, the cliquish dressing room, and the "fact" that almost everyone at the club couldn't stand him. Jesus! The man was a walking disaster. What gives you the idea that he would have got us into the top 6? It's more likely we would have been fighting a relegation battle. I'm really pleased he signed Roberts, but he knew him from his Accrington days, and anyone with half a brain can see what a good player he is. Why did Ipwich let him go? If we don't get promotion this season, I can see clubs coming in for him. At least we should make a nice profit if that should happen.

Donnie Brasco's comments are absolutely, totally, spot on! I agree with every word you said DB. Have a positive from me. I bought Ternent's book in the summer, read it, thought it amusing at times, but also concluded Ternent was also a complete ar**hole. When Town fired him I threw the book away, because I didn't want any reminder of one of the worst managers ever in my house. Now let's all forget about Ternent, please!

One of the worst managers the clubs ever had. Should never forget about him though. Its remembering the crap times that makes the good times ( like now) all the more enjoyable. ;D
