I have just watched the final whistle for the first time ever, I had never seen it before. I first went to see town in 1980 and remember vaugley Steve Kindon and winning the 4th division. Brought back a lot of memories from leeds rd, I still miss the old gound the cowshed, east terrace, was there no option to re-develop leeds rd as I have never felt the leeds rd atmosphere has been recreated at the pharm. The sequence in the video about the last game and the demolishion of leeds rd is gutting, more so now than it was at the time and i was actually filling up watching it. Does anyone else feel the same as me??, that I would give anything to see a game from the shed or east terrace again.
So as im feeling nostalgic lets share leeds rd memories.

In the sixties, if the other team won the coin toss, they would have us play towards the cowshed end in the first half ... bassas.
People who were there then will remember the mass exodus of fans from the cowshed to the open air end for the second half. They would climb up onto the border of the pitch and walk around on that, as opposed to pushing through the crowd in the main stand.
I say 'they' because as a little kid then, I actually feared for my life in a big crowd. Me and my mates would find a good place down the front in the main stand - in front of a concrete and steel stanchion. Still got semi-crushed at least a couple of times though.

I once had a weird dream that we had to temporarily move back to Leeds Road as there was a problem with the Galpharm I was stood on a packed East Terrace for a night game. I was gutted when I woke up and realised it wasn't true. That terrace was awesome, it's what I miss most. Burnley had one which was virtually identical, but I would say ours was even better as it was not split between home and away fans (apart from a corner section when Man City came to Town). I even saw a comment from a Leeds fan on the Carlisle MB (looking for an update on Danny Graham) commenting on how we should not have left Leeds Road and how fantastic the terrace was. A bit of nostalgia for those missing LR: tinyurl.com/8e7zcd

I remember when it came out, as it was delayed for months. I was seeing a lass in Sheffield at the time and lived in Crewe, so used to get up very early and drive home, have an kip, then ready and off to work. Anyway, I arrived home early one Monday morning to see that the tape had arrived and proceeded to watch it from about 78' and indeed, I started to fill up at the time that they came out of the tunnel, in a compilation with some background music. And yes, I would love to go back and play at Leeds Road, especially with the crowds that we get now, compared to the latter years we played there. Happy memories, very happy memories.

I now we moved about a bit in those days, but an 11000 crowd looks more than an 11000 in the Galpharm.

Love watching the video clips from the late 1970's & early 80's. What an exciting time to be a Town fan.
Unfortunately I didn't start going until 1984 when we initially consolidated in Div 2, but then struggled over the next few seasons.
The Barnsley match which drew a crowd of 29,000 must have been a magnificent occasion. Some say Barnsley isn't a big game, but it must have been that day.
It's unusual for Town to win a home game when a huge crowd attends.

A bit of nostalgia for those missing LR: tinyurl.com/8e7zcdIve stood on the Burnley long side a few times - The roof was identical but Towns was definately bigger - and as you say Burnley divided it up between home and away (who can forget Kindon scoring early in what ended as a 4-2 defeat which effectively cost us promotion?) The terrace more than the cowshed is what made Leeds Road special - probably only charlton had a bigger side terrace.

If you watch the video, near the end theres the trip to wembley for the autoglass final and it shows Town fans outside the stadium. Theres one whos wearing a wig with some blue ponytails. I swear its our man Deano. If it is him he should wear them in the directors box for a laugh.
