...NO!
I don't know if all you moaners realise but Leeds are our closest and most hated rivals. They were also very close to being one of the top teams in our country, alot more recently than we were. Basically they shat on us from a very great height in most of the years that you guys have been watching Town.
Football teams close to each other should dislike the other team. Its the un-written rule of football supporting, think Liverpool - Man U, Chelsea - Fulham, Sheff Utd - Barnsley.
Its fun to have an enemy, its fun to laugh at their losses and cringe at their crushing victories. Its fun to go to work on a Monday morning and have a right good ol' banter with the Leeds fans about the weekend's results. I don't get the same banter with the Wolves fan or the Everton fan, because I couldn't care less if they win or lose.
So NO I won't stop going on about it, I won't stop singing "We all hate Leeds scum" at every game I attend, I will wear the 2-1 t-shirt with pride, I will buy the end of year DVD to watch that away game over and over, I will keep talking about 14/02/09 and what a great day out its going to be, I will go to work and (hopefully) look down on the Leeds fans in weeks/months/years/ to come.
You guys need to remember sometimes that football is all about fun, its why you go to the game every Saturday. The euphoria you get from watching your team score a goal is fantastic, the euphoria you get from watching your team score a goal against your bitter rivals is fantastic, the euphoria you get from watching your team score a goal against your bitter rivals on the 93rd minute at their fortress is even better, remember that the next time you b1tch or moan or complain about people having fun and try to remember why you even bother supporting a football team.

I agree, but at the end of the day we all support FOOTBALL - so we shouldnt take it so seriously.
Its the new Chelsea/Man U/Arenal fans who subscribe to sky and have never been to a game in their life, and laugh at people who support teams like Hudds, Swindon etc that we should save our venom for.

Nobody is moaning at most of what you say blueblood - but following your own team should be the main thing, not worrying about rivals all the time!! I cringe when we sing we all hate leeds scum more often than songs supporting our own club - that is all!

Firstly .. I dont think any football fan hates another club .. you can be jealous of them for being more successful, having more support or money .. but who on here hates our closest rivals Halifax or Emley? not many I suspect because they dont have any of the above to rival us. I think we just need to concentrate on the task of suporting our team, getting out of this division ... sod what Leeds and Bradford are doing in the league or signing .. we can leave them behind and let them 'hate' us for a change!

I went to secondry school in Cleckheaton (1st year '68), and all the main football boys, and I mean all, were Town fans. There were a few Leeds, but not dedicated like us lot. One Bradford fan got tansferred from another scool in about '72, but he was the only one (good lad though despite that). Then, on the eve of the '73 cup final - Leeds v Sunderland, one of our so called Town supporting mates arrived at school with a Leeds . Well, I think you all know how my mates and I felt - betrayal, anger, uncomprehenshion etc. Thats when the it started. Before that I hadn't been too bothered about about Leeds as half my family hailed from there, but from that moment I really took a serious dislike to that lot, and as the original poster says, it's so, so sweet the times we have done them since. Yes they are a bigger club than we ever will be, but as a result of the cynical, arrogent mood that still surrounds their club, most of their fans still can't take it when their little neighbours from down the A62 stuff 'em. Oh, and I know at least two blokes who thought they were Leeds fans, but in the last five or six have seen the light and are now Town season ticket holders and ardent supporters. I wonder how many, who like my "mate", have gone the other way over the years, very few I suspect. How we laughed at him on the monday morning though! I've had a soft spot for Sunderland ever since.

Personally I see Bradford as our rivals more than Leeds, but I guess it's each to their own.
The Leeds rivalry doesn't really work when they don't see it the same way.

Well met sir! Nothing wrong with banter! Can't understand the point blank rage and hatred (red eyes the lot) some people get mind... But bantering with your rivals is part and parcel of football - unfortunately it seems we're losing this somewhat as people tend not to support their local team so much these days... Shame. For those who hate the "we all hate Leeds scum" chant - get this un going instead downatthemac.proboards106.com/index.cgi?board=songs&action=display&thread=12141

I honestly don't give a flying feck about yids and the we all hate leeds scum makes me cringe. I honestly think many people would be happy if we lost 3-0 but leeds lost 4-0. It's a joke.
Bradford will always be a bigger rival to me than Leeds.
For the 180 minutes we play them i hate them but for the other 363 days of the year i don't give a feck about them.
Long live HUddersfield Town!!!!

I DISAGREE 100%......L**ds are and always will be Towns number one rivals, and l**ds fans who pretend that we are nothing to them only say that to hide their embarressment. I was in secondary school untill 1973 and went through a lot of piss taking from the 'yids' as they vied with Liverpool for the championship of England. EVERY SINGLE ONE of Town fans stuck solidly to Town through bad years and I still meet with fans my age (52) at away games who I grew up with. On the other hand, I know of quite a few l**ds fans who have watched Town on many occations and a few who have turned to us completly. I would rather eat my own earwax than pay to watch l**ds if they are not playing Town. Now, it seems, we are a better team than them......have better (not more) fans than them.....have a far far far better chairman than them........more expectation than them......and we are above them in the table. Happy days, but I cannot forget the dark days of the 4th division as we lost 4-2 at Northampton, were 2nd bottom of the league and even got our sherpa van smashed up on the way home by the Northampton lot. At the same time l**ds were flying high and treating us with utter contempt in the pubs and clubs of Heckmondwike/Liversedge. The worm has turned and I am going to ENJOY it while it lasts (long may it do so) *begins to sing as loud as he can

Those of us from Hecky/Dewsbury/Batley (basically spen valley and heavy woollen area) tend to hate Leeds more because we come from an area with a 50/50 split pretty much. Like Malverns experience, all through School us Town fans were subjected to piss taking from Leeds (And with good reason, they were flying high and we were pratting around selling our best players in the championship). Similarly, i've only ever met about 3 Bradford fans, theres certainly none in Hecky, none went to my School so while yes they are our rivals I personally dont dislike them as much as Leeds cos I've never had that banter with them. If i'd been brough up/gone to School closer to Bradford im sure it would be the other way round.

The only l**ds fan in Hartshead then was a lad called Mick Halliwell, who went to all games and was well liked. Roberttown was 95% Town too. Mirfield, strangely, was quite a bit L88ds.....Hecky was a hub of Town fervor!!!!!! Birstall/Batley was a dangerous place for Town fans. I found that out many times during my 2 years living in Howden Clough.

I do think there is more of a 'rivalry' with Leeds as they are a bigger club than us, so lots of town fans are basically jealous. It appears to mean a lot more to town fans than Leeds fans, so I don't tend to rise to the whole 'I hate Leeds' thing.

Tin hat time:
I don't HATE Leeds as such. This is probably because I live more towards Leeds than Huddersfield so (sadly) I have lots of friends who are Leeds fans.
I like having them in our division as a rival and will celebrate more at a Town win over Leeds than over other clubs as our boys have given me bragging rights over many friends.
Leeds have to be pitied as EVERYONE dislikes them. I'd say I hate Bradford more as everything about them is sh*t but they feel they have something to brag about.
I always look for Leeds' results to wind my mates up but as much as I dislike Bradford, I can't be bothered looking at their results as they are too pathetic to for me to even care.
