It was in the Chelsea program last week, that their goalkeeping coach was watching Alex.
Dont know if it has been posted before

Isn't that regarded as a form of unsettling a player?

I've been saying this for a couple of weeks now. A few of my friends, who are die hard chelsea fans have asked me who alex is, as they've heard leeks that they have put in a bid for him, not entirely sure if it is true or not, but i know there is interest maybe that is why alex hasn't put pen to paper yet?

Personally i think it will be a bad move for smithies, he will gain far more experience playing first team football here, rather than sitting in the reserves at chelsea.
Giving 2 years for us to become a top 30 team in england (which i am near sure ken davy had planned '04 season) i now firmly believe it can be achieved with dean hoyle taking over next season, and lee clark etc in charge the futures bright the future is blue and white!

the lad seems highly rated if these stories are to be believed but he would be forsaking his career to go there now, chelsea have 2 world class keepers before he would even make the bench.

He'd defo be better off here for the time being. If he went there he wouldn't even get reserve football as Cudicini has quite happily done a Harper and warmed there bench/played Carling Cup games for years.

Regardless of potential etc, Smithies can make his own decision - if he thinks that a move to Chelsea or whoever is good for him then fair enough.
All I'm concerned with is a good cash deal for Town afterall he might not realise his potential with us or with anyone else.

some one said arsenal were looking at him I got told Arsenal were looking at him! I wouldn't like to see Smithies go to be honest, it would be best for him if he stayed because if he moved to a bigger club he woud be a Reserve Goalkeeper that would be loaned out to a few clubs, whereas here he can play First team football every week.

On the same note what is the point in an academy if when a player of high claibre is produced we get rid.
£1M might be a gud fee but just think how much it has cost town to put him through the academy.............

If he wanted to go then who are we to stand in his way? I know this is all speculation but at the end of the day if he gets his head turned by interest from Chelsea and they offer us a substantial sum then we'd be fools to turn it down.
The kid has potential but as I said earlier there are no guarantees that he will realise it with us or anyone else.

i think this guy looks awesome. i wouldn't except anything else than 3 millions. the guy just seems to know where the balls going. he even knows when theres no point in diving. like on saturday when he simply didn't bother.
the english BUFFON. 3 millions please. plus an immediate loan back.

The trouble is if Chelsea or another big premier league team signed him they'd be more likely to try and loan him to a championship club rather than back to us.
