Brendan O'Connell - we got him on loan from Burnley and he was rubbish up front, Barnsley turned him into a decent midfielder. And I can't believe someone hasn't mentioned Lee Ashcroft - I still think of the poor man who wasted his money on him!

Alex Dyer... this guy has to be my number one. Vaguely remember getting panned at West Ham in the cup one year and this guy just being a complete embarrasment!

Phil Quinlan wasn't crash hot either, although he scored a great goal in fornt of us away at Bury, turned his man and smashed it under the keeper. Not in same bracket as Dyer, Whittington, Ashcroft etc mind.

My god we really have employed some absolute pish over the years haven't we...
When I started supporting Town we had Allison up front, and I though he was rubbish then. Little did I know then what I was letting myself in for. He's a worldbeater compared to this lot.

Mendes did more for Town than Parker has so far - miles more of a goal threat too. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if Parker ended up scoring fewer goals for Town than Chris Hay managed. We're probably as poorly off for strikers now as we've been for years - that's why I really hope we sign someone soon!

You were obviously too young to understand what football was about back then if you thought he was gash. Marcus Stewart says he`s one of the best strikers he`s played with & Stewart wouldn`t have scored half as many of his goals if it wasn`t for Wayne Allison.

Too true! I still remember the chief beasting Darren Moore at Valley Parade when we won 3-2 there in the City promotion season. Darren Moore at the time was supposed to be shed hot and The Chief made him look schoolboy. The chief will be synonymous for some horrendous misses though such as the one on MOTD against Wimbledon and a few weeks later he missed against Barnsley and Swindon from a few yards - having said that Boothy does it every few games he plays and gets nothing but

Jon Stead... in his first season. Junior Mendes probably for me. I'm a bit too young to remember the likes of Terry Austin and co... thankfully! ;D

Can still remember the huge cheer from the Town fans on his début when he out jumped a defender from a goal kick and won the header. We hadn't seen that for a while.

If that's the same one as Andy Payton you've got to be kidding us. This is an excellent read. Good writing, and the number of familiar names dropped keeps it astoundingly on-topic despite its origin: www.ambernectar.org/heropayton.shtml
