"I am a left back who likes attacking. I will get up and down from box to box and I am good at crossing, shooting from distance and free kicks, but I am not good in defense for 100% of the time and I will train hard to improve on that here." www.htafc.com/page/NewsDetail/0,,10312~1527068,00.html A defender who can't defend eh?! And an admission from the man himself!

So where does this leave Skarz and Williams i wonder? I would guess, that it will leave Williams as back up and a loan period for skarz.

Our full back positions have been a problem for wqay too long, so if this fella can do the business then great. I also feel that Andy is wasted at right back too, he's a creative player who should be in the engine room of the team. The days when full backs don't come over halfway line are long gone so the main attribute for these positions is pace. So lets give the lad a chance hey?

well, surprised no one has noted/commented on the fact that this lad is only half German --- the other half being American ;D
We can sing I'm a Yankee Doddle Dandy when he scores ;D

It helps to have a versatile set of players, particularly when we get injuries. Sounds like a decent lad. I would b less worried about defence if I knew we had people upfront who can score.........

I like his honesty.
I'll say that before I see him play because my opinion of him may drop dramatically if he is garbage!
As much as Williams has improved, his free kicks were apparently his strong point and now he doesn't take them any more, he doesn't get chance to show the strongest part to his game. So with that in mind, he never gets to look anything more than average at best.
It is not a position I felt needed addressing but if he is better than what we have, a free transfer that is an improvement is always a good thing.

Agreed! He know's his strengths and weaknesses and is prepared to work on them. I have a feeling we may have a hidden gem of a player here.

It's not like we've given him a 3 yr deal or anything, Clark's been very sensible with his contract. If he's really no use to us he'll be gone in the summer at no cost to us, if he shows promise he has the option of an extension. Shame we didn't do the same for the likes of Lucketti & Unsworth.

So what if he needs to work on his defence. As long as he has something to worry the opposition with going forward this is the most important thing. If we give them more to worry about than they give us down that flank (which I think we will with Dom and Roberts) then we shouldnt have a problem.
Hopefully, his pace should also get him out of any tricky situations

Patrice Evra's defending is not his strongest attribute. Daniel Alves' defending is not his strongest attribute. Cafu's defending was not his strongest attribute. Riise's defending is certainly not his strongest attribute.
I've been saying for ages how important a pacey fullback that can overlap and join in attacks is to the top teams.
Imagine this - Roberts gets the ball, beats a couple of men and gets to the byline. usually, he'd have to cut inside or go backwards. This lad will be up there supporting him ready to ping the ball into the box.

I agree with your point but the ones you have named have world class centre backs and team mates to bail them out if they get caught out of position. Hopefully, with our centre backs looking strong and also Goodwin to help cover, it would work on a smaller scale for us. At the moment, the problem would still remain with when the crosses get into the box, who will put the chances away?

I missed out Werling's doppelganger Roberto Carlos as well. That guy never had any decent defenders when he was at Real Madrid - he was always hoping Cassilas would save them again if anyone got past him.
I predict a striker who can get into good positions and head a ball is Clark's next priority.

If this lad is half as good as Mally Brown, albeit on t'other side, then that's good enough for me...

Good interview, looks like a useful addition. Hope he doesn't start on Sat though - don't change a winning side!

Are you REALLY suggesting that if we sign a striker, the team should be unchanged, or just left-backs? Sorry I should've been more specific. I agree that if we sign a striker, he should be straight in; however the defense and midfield have been playing well recently and shouldn't be changed.
