People always talk about how the big club's (ie the top 4) reserve side could hold their own in the Prem of Champ, having a large strong squad is essential to provide cover for the first team and fight for places; keeping the standard level high.
Reading about the two closed door games our reserves have played in and reading the team sheets (Matt Glennon, Dominik Werling, Chris Lucketti, David Unsworth, Tom Clarke, Joe Skarz, Michael Flynn, Jon Worthington, Ian Craney and James Berrett.) I would honestly say that I think our reserve side could hold its own in the lower places in League 1 and make a decent League 2 side.
Yes some of the players mentioned here are by no means perfect and I wouldn't particularly like to see them in the first team at the moment but I do think we have a strong reserve team. This can only be a good thing as mentioned above for competition and cover.
I think some credit has to go to Stan for bolstering our squad and and bringing in some quality players (Goodwin, Butler, Roberts) who are only getting better. Hopefully now Clark has a base on which he can bring in even stronger players to replace our "deadwood" or players on wages that exceed their ability.
