Towards the end of last season we knew that loads of players were coming out of contract. It was exciting - we had a new manager and he was buying loads of players (but no out and out striker). Eventually most people agreed that he had bought some good players. However; he made constant changes and there never appeared to be any pattern to our play as he tried to get a load of strangers to play together. The GMs took over and introduced a totally new pattern with an influx of players who knew one another. They stuck with this pattern and began to produce results. LC took over and didnt change anything until he needed to. His changes to pattern were gradual and he did it with basically a constant team selection. Transfer window opens and now we have 3 new players available (but still no out and out striker). The current management team appear to have skills which were lacking in the initial regime and so I remain hopeful but I hope that we dont fall into the same trap as before and rush in with a load of changes.

One of the big differences is that the current staff have players playing to their strengths more, eg Goodwin - utterly wasted at right back. I'm happy to give them time and see how it develops. With any luck there will be more money available in the summer if *the right players for what is needed* come up for grabs. That's been Clark's tack from the outset and it's spot on.

There are some not so subtle differences though Vancea.
a) Anyone who read ST's book surely realised he was the sort of man you'd want to avoid because he basically came across as an a**e. The fact he had to admit in court his book was a pack of lies only increased those feelings.
b) ST seemed mainly to sign central midfield players, the area that at the end of last season most on this board would've said was the area in need of least attention. This left other areas untouched (striker as you say, one of the wings and left back). ST also mainly signed aging players whilst these are young prospects.
c) The balance of Stan's teams were generally appalling (most notably Tranmere). It would be hard to argue too strongly with any of LC's selections.
d) We're doing well. 2nd in the league (after Leicester) in the period since the Geordie Messiah's departure. The fact we were also (apparently - according to Specialun I've not checked) 4th in the league at the end of last season post Page's arrival illustrates just how sh8*te ST's tenure was. Has any manager had a worst spell in charge when the time preceding and post him were so good?
I could go on (and on) but that horrible period is behind us. I really struggle to see a strong comparison.
I agree we desperately need a striker but the window hasn't closed yet.
I have more faith now than I've had for a long time & I'm surprised you don't.

Stan lumbered us with Parker - 1 goal this season !!!!!!!
Mind you Jeavons has been prolific and added another 1.
Agree with the post from the point of view that we are top heavy with midfielders and desperatly need someone to score us some goals from the strikers position.
