Definitely sounds like Alex won't be with us next season .
Shame.

If any of the scouts judge him on how he has played today then i think its safe to say that he will still be with us next season.

It's not great that he went back on the deal agreed with club. Might get an interesting reception next home game though. Hoyle also said they won't accept less than 7 figures for him.....

At the end of the interview as DH says he`ll either sign or go at the emnd of the season. It will go to a tribunal because of his age. What will be will be

If he has gone back on the deal then he should be dropped ! FFS he's only played like 10 games and he thinks he's off to the big time! If he's good enough the big clubs will buy him out of his contract ... what message does this send out to the rest of the squad!!?

i think deano has done a good job of deflecting the media there on smithes got it out in open and put some pressure on the lads agent saying lookign we aint jsut going to crumble to your demands, basically calling his bluff and showing the media it aint an issue if he goes he goes and it will be down to tribunal,
behind the scenes i bet talks are ongoing!
well done deano IMO

DH has done a cracking PR job there. Pressure entirely on Smithies now - he asked for £x and got £x - in Hoyle's words "we matched it to the penny"!!!! If the lad thinks he is billy big time then get shut now - we need players who want to play for the club. It really annoys me when players have a good 10 games and then want a big pay rise/new club - after all they dont say i'll give you some back when they have a mediocre 10 games do they?? Smithies is a terrific prospect, but even the most rose tinted glasses wearers wouldnt say he is a prem keeper at present - he was average yesterday at league 1 level and has a long way to go just yet.

I agree re: Smithies. Great prospect but could ruin his career by moving too early as he isn't premiership standard yet. If he's more interested in money than his long term career, then let him go, I just hope we'll get the money we deserve for him though I doubt it.

If he wants to go then let him, fine by me. He had a poor game today IMO - including one instance where he miscontrolled the ball and it nearly dribbled into his own net. First game in a while yesterday when he has actually been consistantly threatened and he conceeded four goals, and could have done better with at least two of them. If that constitutes a move to Premier League reserve team then so be it, we can use the money to replace him with somebody of decent calibre and still have money left over to strenghthen the rest of the side.

I agree with you, hes only a young lad and we have been so supportive to him and boosted him up, if he wont sign a contract then go somewhere else.....he was poor yesterday imo. lets use the money to bring someone else in, no one player is bigger than our great club...its absolute bollox.

if he has moved the goal posts move him on,he hasnt done anything yet, apart from looking a good as glennon,if glenda was to come back in would in be such a big deal now the defence is a lot better? if i was hoyle and offered what he wanted and then he asked for more i would bomb him straight out the arrogant little git,1o games makes you bigger than the club now? i say piss off now smithies if town aint good enough for you you little shit.

tbh the blame lies at his agents door in my eyes-agents quite frankly are the scum of football, and i get the impression its his agent, rather than smithies himself whos moved the goalposts-the agent wont care where smithies goes, cos the more money smithies gets, the more money he (the agent) gets, and thats absolutely all he cares about-he hasnt got smithies best interests at heart, hes just got his own financial interests at heart-if smithies didnt have an agent,he'd have likely signed the first deal we offered him

Theres a lot of luck in football I dont care what people say, Alex got his chance and took it and now he seems to think hes above Hudds town. On the other side a very good Keeper ( glennon ) lost his place and will obviously feel gutted, hes still defo good enough to be first choice again . Blackie needs to work on his confidence though.

Smithies can't go to a Premiership club at this stage, because he'll just end up languishing in the reserves, and he'll probably be sent back on loan to a club similar to ours.
I hope the scouts were at the Leicester game, because barring one or two good saves, his performance was pretty poor.

As much as I do not rate Glennon - if its true that Smithies &/or his agent have gone back on a deal and he is now holding out for a big contract in the summer where we will get jack s**t from a tribunal....SHOULD WE NOT DROP HIM!
How can he think he is worthy of this - we have nurtured him since 8 years old & after playing a handful og games in the LOWER divisons he thinks he is better than us - Like LC & DH state we only want players who want to play for us.
Guess we need to be on the lookout for a new keeper then!
He wasn't at his best today anyway.

The reaction to these negotiations is OTT. Smithies agent is negotiating as is Hoyle. Lets wait for the result In the interim, there's no mileage in getting on a young lad's back who is a big asset to the club now and a potentially massive asset in the future. Trying to rally fans to take against him can only have one result - a move away from Town. I don't want that - he's potentially the best keeper we've had in my time of watching Town (50+years) fair point but hoyle made it public for a reason.

If i was Smithies and had a real possibility of hitting the big time in the premiership knowing full well that if it went tits up i could possibly drop a league.
I would say sod £20000 + and take a few grand a week instead that Town offered.

After hearing that interview its made me quite nervous that holdsworth might leave. He's been our best player over the last couple of years and we need him to stay. Not fussed it worthy leaves to be honest but we need to keep holdsworth
