Looks like they're just advertising to me. Lets see if anyone beats our offer.

Looks like they're just advertising to me. Lets see if anyone beats our offer. exactly, they may as well have put him on ebay. can we afford him? is he the type of striker we need/want? as another poster says, next week will be interesting as the in and outs unfold !

Assuming that we have actually bid for Gallagher, I'd be impressed if we got him.
People talk about loving it if Stead came back - Gallagher is better than Stead IMO.

I doubt there will be any activity till Wednesday at least. Clark will be wanting to concentrate on Yeovil first. There's practically a full fixture list on Tuesday so I expect the Town scouts will be out and about.
I suspect there will be more out than in now at Town.

Gallagher would be an absurd signing. IF we could pull it off (and I think he'd be worth the £1million) then he would tear this division apart.

Stead would be the last player I would be looking to sign because he hasn't hacked it with any of the C clubs he's been with. He only just hacked it with us in Div 4 so let's just forget about him completely. Thank the Lord that Shef U turned our ridiculous offer down!!!!!

I don't think Gallagher is better than Stead, I imagine they have similar records in the championship this season and have scored similar numbers in the premiership.

In terms of technical ability, Galagher is different class to stead

From what i've heard you couldn't be more wrong. A lot of Blackburn fans hold him in high regard, much higher so than Stead, and thought he should have been given more chances. Stead can't even get a game at Ipswich anymore.

I rate Gallagher much higher then stead just to the fact that Blackburn kept Gallagher and not stead and look who's where now, they did no mistake in letting stead go as he was out of his depth in the Premier League and still can't compete with the top boys in the Championship. Gallagher > Stead for me.

Gallagher > Stead for me. Or maybe it is because they got more money for Stead... two other premier league clubs signed Stead... so he's played in the prem for sheff utd, blackburn and sunderland, whereas gallagher has played mostly in the championship for stoke, preston, plymouth... Stead is the better player in my opinion.

What success did he have at the other clubs though? He's at ipswich sitting on the bench half of the time and with loan strikers Billy Clark and Jaime Peters gone out and doing great his future their doesn't look promising, I'd rather him remain a legend for the goals in 03/04 than come back and ruin that reputation he has if he's not successful.

I don't know much about Gallagher since I'm not interested in the Premier League, but I do know that Stead would not be the sort of striker we need desperately. Presence in the middle is all we need.

Presense in the middle isn't all we need... someone to put the ball in the net is what we need. If all we needed was presence, once boothy was fit we'd be scoring 2-3 goals per game... fact is boothy isn't a goal scorer these days, all he has is his presense. Cox or Graham would be ideal, Gallagher would be good too. Despite his goal on saturday I'd offload parker first chance we got too, time and again yesterday he slowed our play down/lost possession.

Does that mean that you rate Stead or you don't rate Gallagher? It's important! I certainly think when they were both at Blackburn Stead was a better prospect, but he's lost his way a bit. Gallagher obviously has talent, but he's never been prolific anywhere yet. He might be brilliant in league 1, but there'd be no guarantees. I rate them both to an extent, but think £1 million for either would be too much. Would take either of them for £500k, if I had to pick between the two I'd pick Stead more on the hope that a move back to the Galpharm would help him recapture his form of 03/04, but he's not available and Gallagher apparently is. I'm not convinced all Blackburn fans hold Gallagher in high regard. The one I know certainly isn't a fan.

I agree, someone who knows where the net is... if they are a bit of a presence in the box then that is a bonus. If we just sign a big lump, it wouldn't really solve anything as then we would still be crying out for a goalscorer. If it is that people are pinning their hopes on Jevons/Parker/Broadbent being that goalscorer, I think they will be disappointed.
