All these comments from the armchair managers about home & away formations... I don't recall ever reading a response that mentioned there was actually another team on the pitch and that sometimes you have to apply what you think is the best option based on the opposition rather than where the game's played. Another thread on here compared Gerry Murphy's away games against LC's away games. We can all be experts on here if we remove any context from our reasoning... ;D ;D

I think the thread your talking about in mine
All I was saying is that on Saturday Steve Howard made Andy Butler look like a schoolboy in the air and absolutely had him. That's not a dig at Butler as I think he's proved to be the best signing Ternent made (well I only actually rate him, Roberts and Goodwin [am prepared to give young Denton more time]). I doubt Nathan Clarke would have coped any better with Howard, who IMO is a good Championship striker - no idea what he's doing in League One and it's no concidence Fryatt is scoring for fun next to him!
Anyway, back to Saturday, given the mismatch between Butler and Howard I felt Town needed to do more to contest the second ball and that an extra body in the middle of the box, be that Berrett (who was only dropped for tactical reasons in the first place) or Tom Clarke, it may have reduced the number of free headers / volleys Leicester were getting inside the Town box in the second half, you could see it was only a matter of time before they scored from a Howard lay off, i.e Oakley should have done a lot better with a volley
I'm not criticising Clark, but I also felt at Carlisle he waited too long to make changes (i.e. Craney was shocking that day and should have come off at half time for Cads).
Basically we need to get a plan B which so far I don't think we've developed - I think it will come with time but 442 isn't always the only formation, nor should we be scared of subbing players who are having a stinker at half time given the depth of quality in the squad

Aye, but if football managers got it right all the time, then there'd be 50% of fans happy and 50% of fans like Bradford...

I've found it strange that everytime I have seen us come up against a big powerful striker this season that Clarke seems to be the one who marks him. I always thought Butler would be better at that.
Wasnt at the game Saturday but it seems not to be the case
