I personally always saw the DG lower near the FM Stand as the family area. The atmosphere in the Pink Link might have been good from your perspective, but it didn't really resonate around the rest of the ground. Just wish we could get away from this futile argument that the Pink Link is the answer to the poor atmosphere in the ground.

1 things for sure, theres been more atmosphere in there than when we've been in our normal seats this season-also the FM is the family stand basically, plus whenever they have special school promotions they always go in there, its our designated family area (officially or not,but people know it is)

If we don't get the Pink Link I'll be an infrequent visitor to matches, I'm bored with no atmosphere games and really enjoyed it in the South stand against Swindon. It's perhaps the most I've enjoyed a game since the early eighties. Those people who say there was no improvement in the atmosphere at the Swindon game are being wilfully economical with the truth. Those that refuse to move from the FM are just plain daft. That stand and it's supporters are an embarrasment to the club because they just doze through the game and don't get behind the team. I for one will not fork out £20 quid a game next season to sit in a somnulent stand wishing I was doing something more exciting, watching a couple of hundred away fans outsing us game after game. Cue the usual arguments against the south stand experiment from the tartan rug and flask brigade.

Its a no brainer to have away fans anywhere but the South Stand especially if (when) we get back up to the Championship and have regular big away followings. There is a stand behind the goal there for you all at the moment. Get yourselves into the FM lower, sing, dance and be merry. If it goes well the club might just look at improving that area for you with the addition of a roof to protect your poor little eyes from the sun and jackets from getting wet.

The family stand people can join the other silent fans in the main stand, leaving the FM stand for away fans. The lower tier of the FM stand is a terrible choice for the home fans because it doesn't hold many and has no roof. (Basically it's a temporary stand like you'd find at a golfing event). I simply don't understand the logic of previous posters who oppose making the south stand a home end. Those clubs which have cracking atmosphere's have a proper home end, and not a crappy mish mash like the FM stand. I'll stand by my previous posts, I'll not be back much if we don't get the south stand. I'm tired of this endless discussion, most people know the south stand should be for home fans as per a previous poll.

I sat in the FM lower once, when it was a quid a ticket. I'd rather pay 19 quid more to sit in any of the other stands.
Stick the away fans in there, it's shite, you get plss wet through if it rains, facilities are cack. Although I suppose you could twoc a lawnmower if the match gets boring.

The rain gets you, the wind gets you, if its sunny you cant see a thing cos thats where the sun is at around match time. You cant sit high enough up to see all the pitch. Perfect for visitng spectators.

I do agree that the south stand should be for Town fans, I was just making a side-point about the FM stand and why it's so quiet. I'd personally like to see away fans put up into the upper tier. No corporate boxes are going to be affected that way, and home fans can still sit in the lower tier. There are two entrances and exits to the FM stand - one at either side. One side can be for home fans, another for away fans.

i agree that the atmosphere in the pink link has been better recently, i just get the feeling that if it was more of a regular thing then it might not be constantly as good, it sort of seems to be like it is a novelty at the moment and maybe after a while numbers may dwindle and noise along with it.
i also think it needs to be taken into account the performances that have been witnessed whilst fans are in that stand, the swindon game we played excellant football and the atmosphere came from that but i would also say that the atmosphere vs Oldham & Scunny was also as good. I think if town fans had been in the pink link vs MK dons the atmosphere wouldnt have been as good as the team played garbage.
overall the atmosphere at home will NEVER be as good as when we are away, its the same for all clubs not just ours.

Great post about the Visiting fans(wind ,rain and sun) been in the FM Media (lower tier if small qty all the stand if more) , it can't be too difficult to repaint the white lines in the cinema end of the car park for visiting coaches!!! And if there is likelihood of trouble keep them behind for a while!!!! This would give us the chance to create the Old style pressure on away teams we all desire!!!and We would have the added benefits of three covered sides to generate more sound/atmosphere!!!
There has only been one majorish incident that has happened in the ground and that was due to the OTTness of the cops (Derby 5th round FA cup)
You weren't there against Portsmouth then, last game of the season they needed to win to stay up. Also when the stadium first opened we didn't have seats in the south stand. Away fans were housed in the northern end of the Antich ( John Smiths ). I know that there weren't many away fans at this time but don't recall any problems.

My idea for next season is that the Pink Link becomes our Kop and Antich remains the same.
Give the kids a section of the upper tier Direct Golf, Close the upper tier of the FM Media and put the away supporters in the bottom section. So what if a few dads and lads get the more expensive seats at family stand prices. It's very rarely any were near full. I'm sure the cost saved of not opening the FM upper for smaller visiting teams would balance the extra lost revenue of kids/dads in the upper tier.
If bigger teams like Leeds, Leicester etc come than just give them the whole FM stand.
I've been at Old Trafford many many times and have left the game at exactly the same time as 000's of away supporters have left the ground at the same time and mingled. They do the same at Anfield as well.
Personally I don't buy into this notion that the away supporters have to be within metres of there coaches to whisk them away. Hundreds of thousands of home way/supporters mingle as ease with each other every week.
We are an English third tier football team not bloody mental Italian supporters.

Please can you lot forget about the Fm stand for away fans!! You seem to forget what exactly we have there it's already a nightmare on matchdays because of the multi purpose attractions already going on, it would be one hell of a headache if away fans were to be brought into the equation!
An atmosphere is not created by a stand but by those in it!

An atmosphere is not created by a stand but by those in it! Care to explain why the atmosphere has sounded so much better with 1400 in the Pink Link rather then pockets scattered around the stadium? We've been in the Pink Link for every game allowed this season and always sing along. When we sit in our normal Antich seats it's very quiet around us and with the exception of Chazza (who never shuts up) not one of us really makes an effort to sing along.

To be honest, it probably sounds much better than normal if you are one of those in the Pink Link, but to the rest of the stadium, it doesn't sound or feel any different. Atmospheres recently have been good because of the number and disposition of the home crowd in general. I am a ST holder with my young daughter in the FM upper and no, I am not 'just plain daft' for not moving, just so that others can sit behind the other goal. I have taken my daughter into other stands for cup games and the like, and it is really unpleasant with the agressive attitudes of too many fans. We're happy up in the 'quiet' seats. Of course, it might just that we are quieter than some others until we have something useful to say. If you want to sit behind the goal, get yourselves in the FM lower. Nobody else has to move, the police aren't involved, away fans can fill the Pink Link when we're in the Championship and you can sing your heads off. There, rant over. But it had to be said.

Long term if you want to sit behind a goal its the only way. Or maybe we could turn the pitch around 90 degrees. We would thus maximise our plethora of wide men and have a full compliment of town fans behind each goal.

Only thing is, if we dont get the Pink Link Stand on a regualr basis, why dont all the folk that sit in other areas of the ground that want to sing, but dont where they sit now because other people dont, move to the South end of the Antich.
Thats the "singing section" at the moment. I know sometimes it gets bad press, and everyone who is sat there are branded Chavs, but if it wasn't for these people the ground would have NO atmosphere at all.
I sit in that area and I have to agree that sometimes the "chav" (for want of a better word) tag is rightly attached. I've had numerous arguments with some of the Younger lads that sit in that area. Maybe if the older lot amungst our support who like a good sing song can came and educated some of the younger lads, teach them some of the old songs then it would help improve thier attitude & create a better atmosphere.......

doubt the FM lower holds enough to allow absolutely everyone who wanted to go in there to go in every game-plus i cant imagine the view will be that good being sat really low down, sun in eyes/rain/wind,the net in the way if you're sat directly behind it

As for the FM Lower. If everyone who wanted to sing would be willing to sit in that area then i'd be up for moving into that area as well. It would have to be well advertised before hand though to make everyone aware (maybe a mail shot to all season ticket holders ) However, I would want a very cheap season ticket to compensate the adverse weather conditions.

Plenty of others sit at that height in the other three stands without a problem. Sun in the eyes, wind and rain is a shi*e excuse. The bloody nets however, now that is a dilema . What was I thinking back to the drawing board .

On saturday did anybody notice anyone NOT singing. 3,000 plus in there and almost 100% singing their heads off. Like AntichGeese I am quiet(ish) at home but that is mainly due to the people around me inhibiting my vocal chords. I loved the atmosphere that WE generated in the crispbowl and only hope that victory tonight will help kick the season on again. It's another big game on Saturday and we will need the backing of the whole ground if we want to ensure 3 pts against the PosH.

This is what I mean, we obviously have a lot of people wanting to sing but are put off by others around not joining in. If we dont get the Pink Link then the way I see it these people have 2 options. Either move down to the singing section, or start singing where you sit now. You might even encourage people to join in with you
