Thought clark could have gone for it tonight - we had nothing to lose and in the end gained nothing.
Granted all the bandwagon and more are out for jevons (who I admit had a poor game) and parker (who clark think shad his best game for him and still was worse than poor). Both aren't the natural scorers etc and both will look better alongside a bigger man.
As soon as they went down to ten men, we should have had a defender off. Clarke and butler were getting in eachothers way, goodwin wanted to be a third centre half and only use (given that we had 4 defenders to pick up the pieces) was 50 yard balls to pilkington which looked pretty but we lost the ball twice out the the three times.
We kept the width well - good. Holdsworth added a bit of urgency from the back, werling did when he came on but all too often we were too slow to start with, we let them get behind the ball and had the keeper, 4 defenders and goodwin all behind the ball. Too many touhces for goodwin, butler, clarke.
There was simply no need for all three of butler, goodwin and clarke - two would have been more than sufficient.
Jevons was out powered by the centre halves and parker was on a different football pitch, but jevons' plight wasn't helped bya lack of support with him. Its all well and good keeping the width buyt with no support behind the front two except collins we lost that man advantage. All two often the ball came into him from the full back, he had a wide option or collins. The other wing was out of question, parker was 10 yards offside from last week, and goodwin was on half way! With 9 hartlepool players - do the maths.
Butler and clarke were the spare man - it needed to be collins/craney. We didn't ask the question enough imo. All two simple to defend against.
We didn't create enough decent chances in the 2nd half - i.e. clear cut chances (unlike the first half).
The chances we created were long distance shots or a few from scraps around the box - the nearest we came was collins picking up on these - we needed a second collins, i.e. the spare man in the hole.
Ah well, the chances were there in the first half for this striker, the second half was more nouse/tactical imo!
