This club has come on a long way since Dean Hoyle has got involved and we as supporters have got to back him all the way to help bring this club sucess. No doubt some supporters put a lot of time and effort into trying to help the club and will not always get things right, but the last thing we want is some fans on here trying to stirr things up and make matters worse. People like Mids, has done a great job, so come on polish even though some mistakes are made, we all want what is best for the club at the end of the day.

well said my friend we are a club going forward and we dont want anyone to take us back. but i cant see why blaming 'polish' can help everthing and i mean evrything on this site should be positive no matter how angry.
'every cloud has a silver lining' 'every negatibe thing at the club in the end has some positives' up the town

We all want what is best for the club but the fans are also part of the club. Riding roughshod over the fans is not what is best for the club. I think a soon to be departing chairman, not that he gives a toss, learned that lesson.

Essentially - the fans are the club ...
The club have decided that they'll host the traditional "supporters' event" ... and charge £60 a head for people to get in - shutting out the supporters who the event really belongs to!
There's been no true compromise, in my eyes.

A marque on the pitch and 500-1000 supporters was the 1st choice but the cost of hosting it at our own ground was considered "too expensive" and allegedly someone said something along the lines of "i'm not lining their pockets".
A bigger venue was also looked for according to Sean Jarvis but once again it was difficult to see the "cost per head" being kept to a level where 250 supporters might want to pay that amount.
Personally i'm willing to give Sean Jarvis the benefit of the doubt and not call him a thief or a liar because he's always given the impression of being honest and open at meetings.
Maybe with the change of chairmen at the end of the season things like this will not occur next but supporters have to be aware that Financial and personal politics at the club at this moment in time do effect peoples decisions.

So how come when the Patrons had their 20th anniversary do the cost was considerably cheaper and the Supporters Club were able to put a do on that was considerably cheaper as well? Someone posted on the other thread the Banqueting Suite at Cedar Court holds 400 and is around £650 to hire - a bigger room and a lot cheaper to hire than at the stadium by the sound of it.
Sorry but the club were simply determined that they would have their way on this and as Andy has said, there simply has been no compromise on their part. If they want to continue in that vein then I won't compromise my criticism or the strength of my language. If peoples' noses are put out of joint because of it then they should have thought about the consequences before going ahead with their ill thought out plans without informing the very people they were supposed to be organising this with.

Im with you Polskis on this one.... the fans have been shafted over this , something could have been organised for half what they are asking for. The thing is I dont think they want to attract the " ordinary " supporters like you and me !!

Im with you Polskis on this one.... the fans have been shafted over this , something could have been organised for half what they are asking for. The thing is I dont think they want to attract the " ordinary " supporters like you and me !! You're wrong...they did want to attract fans like you and me. I think the reason the price is so high in comparison to past Awards Nights is because the club's idea was to change the format, not the guest list. Instead of a buffet, there's a 3 course meal. Instead of a bit of chat before presenting an award, there'll be video highlights. Instead of a dance, there'll be a 'proper awards night' similar to what we all see on tv. People can criticise the club for changing tack, and maybe for having ideas above their station, but I don't think there's anything wrong in trying something different....change can be good! If it works the club may well try it again next season (but hopefully at a cheaper price).....if it doesn't work i'm sure they'll accept that and maybe revert to the more traditional event. One things for certain, the fans have not been shafted. It's a more expensive night if an ordinary fan chooses to attend, but then it's a different kind of event. It's like someone who usually attends a concert for £20 going to the theatre or opera (I know it's unlikely and paying a bit extra as a one off. And in all fairness even the most vehement protester on this subject has admitted in his post that he could afford to go if he wanted to!

After the £100 season ticket offer, massive tiered reduction on match tickets (Mon - £1, Tue - £2...), countless reductions and special offers on merchandise, refund for fans at Darlo, along with massive investment in the playing staff and new coaches....I don't think people have a leg to stand on. Some fans have unfortunately fallen into this dreamy trap of naivety where you do actually get champagne quality for beer money.
Get real. The club needs to find better ways of income. It's already been stated that the ceremony is being upgraded in quality. More people, more formal, bigger audience. It's been likened to other events run by supporters association, which are much cheaper...but in what way do they benefit Huddersfield Town.
This is the first time the supporters have actually had to dig into their pockets this season, albeit unexpected, I definitely do no think it's unwarranted.

So why is it now a black tie event if they still want to attract the ordinary supporter? No harm in changing the format and tring to spruce things up a bit but that is not the outcome now, is it? We have a corporate event aimed at a niche market and regardless of whether I persoanlly can afford it or not is besides the point, there are plenty that even if they can afford £60 can't justify the cost of attending.
Also it still doesn't answer the question why they think they have the right to hijack what has always been an event organised by the fans, hijack the awards themselves and make it part of their corporate calendar.

I've said in previous threads about season ticket prices, that having too cheap a season ticket devalues the club, and this is such an example. The fans, after a ONE OFF centenary offer of £100 season tickets already expect everthing to do with being associated with Huddersfield Town to cost a pittance. The club is targeting the premiership, and we've invested in management structure that will hopefully see us get there. Dean Hoyle will be aiming to make everything about Huddersfield Town, 'Premiership' standard, and that includes the end of season awards ceremony. Some people will feel like they have been shafted, and some people will even state reasons for not wanting to see Huddersfield play in the premiership, but the club has to move forward. We've seen the difficulty in signing players to the club already, and the image that we're 3rd division has to be eradicated. I'm sorry but sausage rolls, a mobile bar, and Dougs DJ and Karaoke is not the way to run the end of season awards ceremony.

Anybody who bought a discounted season ticket could go to this and still see a big reduction on last seasons expenditure.
I fully understand why people are not happy about the changes, but looking at the bigger picture, is now the time to continue any discord around the club?
I would let this lie for this year and make sure all parties are happy for next season.

There are people who can't afford (what was) the Supporters Club's ticket price of £20ish in previous years. Going on that logic they could take offence and demand the removal of the dj so that the price dropped to something more affordable to them. Then there'd be people who couldn't afford that price, and would demand that rather than serving Stella Artois they should serve Skol, thus reducing the ticket price. Then....... etc etc etc

Jesus guys talk about over an over reaction! Polish, whilst i have every sympathy with your quotes re "hijacking of awards/corporate sponsorship of memorial trophies etc" the club is trying something different as mids has previously posted and this is after all our centenary season so why not try a one off format to reflect this? We have had discounted tickets and merchandise and the chairman/board have done everything possible to get fans out of armchairs and into our stadium every other week but we as fans have to do our bit too - championship footballers cost money - its a simple economic reality. To get there and stay there we have to generate revenue which isnt going to come directly from one or two generous benefactors - even abramovich is reining back on his spending! As has been posted earlier, we are in danger of thinking £100 is realistic pricing for league 1 footabll - it simply isnt and the higher cost of the supporters end of season do doesnt even come close to the savings on tickets this year. By all means make your point to the club about things, but lets not go ballistic over something as trivial as £50 and black tie for a supporters event - we have a fabulous club that looks as though it might finally be waking from a long slumber and we need as many people to come on the journey with us as possible. Get on with what's of greater importance. Hopefully those with the strong feelings, on boths sides of the debate, will be there to assist with the efforts and arrangements for the Supporters POTY Do, which I hope does get put together. I do not seem to have heard anywhere that the Club was NOT going to allow the Supporters the right to hold their own event.

TBH i agree re how excellent our club is being run at the moment and couldnt ask for any more, just seemed a bit steep at nearly 60 quid a ticket..... has led to some very interesting and articulate debate on here and have enjoyed reading the well made points !!

The club haven't lost money from my family this season on the season ticket offer. 3 season tickets instead of none, maybe one at the most, 4 shirts bought - 3 home and 1 away - they might have only got one otherwise, on top of that I spent around £100 quid in the club shop at xmas and my two lads have also been buying stuff from the club shop as well. I'd say the club were well in profit from the three of us this season.

What the club have done is hijacked the event and now anything we do will be seen as of secondary importance. The very fact they have told us it has to be held midweek indicates this.

For god's sake does everything have to be run like some comununist co-operative. It's a 60 quid + beer money night out FFS after the spending on the squad and management team on the back of 100 quid season tickets I can't see how people can moan tbh. Unfortunately there are people who couldn't afford to go wether it be 100, 50, 20, 10 quid for a ticket, the bottom line is as with everything if you can't afford it you choose not to go or save up! Get a grip.

Alright Stan... Since when as the POY been a "grass roots" event? Since when as the POY been an "ordinary supporters" event?
I agree that the club could have consulted better on this issue and that this kind of issue should be debated and complaints made but the kind of POY award you're advocating is a million miles away from anything ever suggested by the supporters who usually plan it and something that should have probably happened before now if "the grass roots" or "ordinary supporter" were that concerned.
Is it really worth burning bridges over? A sledgehammer to crack a nut springs to mind.
