smithies should tell his agent to pi$$ off, then sign the contract anyway (which if he was really serious about signing for us,he would do) personally this sounds like the 3rd offer we've made him...........i'd have possibly made 2,and had he not accepted, told him they wouldnt be making any other offers-certainly this should be our final offer

if he's not going to sign then drop him now, get either glennon in the team or a lad on loan who does want to play for us!!!! he's listening to the wrong people and becoming big time before his time and this could all blow up in his face!!!!!

Nowhere near highest wage bill in the league. Leeds and Leicester are nearly double ours, and Millwalls is also a lot higher.

It all depends on where Town are next season. I'm sure he'd sign it straight up if we could guarantee football at a higher level.

Wonder if anyone else thinks he should go. Whilst it would be great to keep an obvioulsy very talented young keeper, his reluctance at signing for his home town club and the fact that the club, or Dean Hoyle has stumped up what they describe as a premiership offer for the 18 year old. I do worry that as a league one club, its dangerous to go down this route just yet. Yes Deano has a few quid but if we could collect a half decent transfer fee in the summer, would that not put us in a strong position. Our wage bill must be bordering on the highest in the league now and I bet it surpasses several in the league above. Whilst I trust Deano not to spend what he cant afford, my thoughts are to perhaps cash in rather than break the bank on a player who doesnt appear to over eager to sign.. No not really cos we'll get a minimal fee at tribunal, the only way we would get decent fee is if he signs a new contract now and then we sell him. Am i also right in thinking if he goes to a team in Scotland we'll get no money from a tribunal?

If we have offered him a premiership terms contract and he does not accept it, at a tribunal we get great money, If he is playing in the first team we get great money at a tribunal. If he is in the first team and playing well the class of club that will come in for him is higher, more money at a tribunal, In the beginning Deano said sign or we go to a tribunal, this is all tactics to get more money at a tribunal, and if i was Deano i would have had a quite word to the lad, who is after all an ordinary lad like you and me and said. " we will do like this, and we will get you a great chance somewhere else or first team here at a higher level" the lad just plays along and we help him, agent has to get his cut, Smithies agreed the contract with him, for a reason. If Smithies goes to Glasgow he is mad, would you, but thats the risk everyone takes. If i was Deano i would be saying to Smithies, trust us to get you Chealsea or Spurs and you promise not to sign for Rangers.

Nothing to do with if he signs a contract, if he signs a contract the buying club has to pay us what we want, the tribunal is to set a fee for lads who have come through the youth ranks and just get picked off after all the hard work has been done. Compensation for the club that has invested.

i know it would go to a tribunal if a club in England wanted him but i'm sure i've read previously if he went to a club affiliated to a differant FA we wouldnt get a tribunal fee?

I understand what you're saying, but it would be stupid to drop him in my opinion. He's playing brilliantly at the moment and won us the game against Leeds. He's out of contract at the end of the season and is quite within his rights to leave if he gets what he considers a better offer. We may as well use him while we can if he is going. Leaving him out of the team wouldn't benefit anyone.

The money on offer to AS wouldbe an investment as we would recover that in the transfer fee. You cannot be sure of what a tribunal would give Town and his agent and those clubs interested will know this.
I personally think AS would be far better off playing games with us and gaining proper experience rather than sitting in a reserve or A Team in a premiership club for 3-4 years.
If we are offering premiership money to him then I think he would be foolish not to accept it. It must be a win-win for him, get well paid and keep playing and getting better.

have you ever thoug hwe get smithies to sign 5 year deal?
yes its on a premership wage, hes headign there eventually and onto greater things i reckon.
but in 3 years time 3/4 prem clubs open battlew to sign the lad and we get say 6/7/8 million?
it could be a shrewd investment,

the problems not paying just smithies wages... what happens when its time to re-negotiate wages for Ainsworth, Pilkington, Roberts... and any others who come along and claim the ability to play at a higher level?

Thing is, a lot of you are looking at it from a Huddersfield Town FAN's point of view.
As fans, you'd probably walk over hot coals if it meant you could play for Town.
Yeah - the amount of times I've dreamt of playing for Town.
But this is Smithies' job. Just like every single person on this forum (over school age), you want the best for your career and just because we're talking football here, that doesn't change.
Don't give Smithies a hard time - when it comes to our career it's only what every single one of us would do.

Spurs like screwing over the smaller clubs dont they. First they take bostock for pittance and now they're looking to do the same with Smithies. These Tribunals should be doing all they can to help the smaller clubs but it seems to be the other way around

be pointless him going to spurs-look at all the youngsters they've bought/got via a tribunal that are nowhere now-routledge and bostock are 2 that immediately spring to mind, routledge is wherever, but not at spurs, having joined them as a youngster n not played much, especially no doubt compared to where he was originally, where he'd have likely played more games, and bostock has hardly played, when he couldve been continuing his development instead by playing first team footy at palace
