He's a winger FFS. His job isn't to mix it up with opponents, if anything it would be better if he stays away from them when he has the ball. He hasn't hit the ground running but has shown glimpses of what he has the potential to do. Consistantly making the full back's day hard is all he needs to add really.

Lennon no because he too is like Ainsworth, soft. Cole,Messi & Ronaldo yes i`ve seen them all make 50/50 challenges because they`d never get away with not doing so at the level they all play at. If you`re now going to tell me you`ve never seen those three make a 50/50 challenge then i`ll know you`ve never seen them play.

So aren`t wingers allowed to challenge for the ball now then? I didn`t question his ability as a player, which if you`d read my earlier post you`d have seen.

Messi has barely made a tackle in his life. Ronaldo has petulantly fouled/ticked people when they've taken the ball off him. Cole might dive in when when he feels hard done by. A head on 50/50 they'd all back out.
Or i've just never seen them play.

A winning team requires balance - ball winners, good passers, skillfull wide men - if one player in a team has all these qualities he wouldn't be playing in Division 3. Ainsworth has ben signed to give us some much needed injection of pace, give him time to settle and get used to the pattern of play Clark wants. I think he has shown only glimpses of what he can do but he has to be an improvement on what we have. Messi doesn't throw himself into 50-50s & Ainsworth has been signed to be our 3rd division version of him - they've even got the same first name ffs!

ainsworth has great potential, but kind of like the start of our season, even great players need time to gel

Ainsworth pulling out a 50/50 on Saturday made my p*ss boil!
At a time when town we're looking to get back into the game - regardless of whether you are a clogger or a skillful player - ALL players should have been getting stuck in, just to raise the tempo which had been like a training game for the best part of 65 minutes.
Played at pace with a bit of hunger Town could've beaten Crewe on Saturday. The simple fact is - they wanted it more than us!
I know that his role in the side isn't to fly into challenges but sometimes you have just got to stand up and be counted.
Maybe if he hadn't have pulled out of it the rest of his teammates may have thought 'that lad is leading by example', and raised their game.
Promotions aren't won by pulling out of tackles and leaving it to your teammates.
On saying this I don't think anyone made a tackle in our midfield on Saturday so he isn't alone in this respect - it just happened to be right under our noses.

What do you reckon lee clarks telling a creative, pacey and lightweight flairy winger.
"lionel get stuck in to those 50-50's with guys much bigger than you"
or
"if it's a 50-50 don't go in hard, I don't want you injured"
I'd rather him bottle a 50-50 than go off injured from one. I'm sure Clark is the same.

You are more likley to get injured from bottling a 50/50.
What if our centre halves bottled 50/50's for fear of getting injured as we are not blessed with depth in that department?
