Interesting re:Tom Clarke, he looked like he'd gone off with a knock on tuesday at Bradford? We'll see eh? Maybe its part of Clark's plan to take captaincy off Holdsworth as i'd assume it would be at RB where he'd come in? You can't beat a good conspiracy theory!!

If Smithies signs now lets see how popular with the "big" clubs he actually is. Now they will have to pay substantial amount of money for him. I always thought they were sniffing around cos he was going cheap. If he signs this is a massive deal for the club as they can sell on later if the deal is right - which it will have to be. Well done if this is the case!

The thread title nearly made me shit myself with excitement.
Not just because Smithies has signed, but because it really shows what our staff are all about and their ability to keep/bring people in (especially following Ainsworth/Pilkington signing).
I'm not doubting it but I am quite the pessimist and I don't fully believe anything until it gets on the O/S.

So, if he was supposed to sign this morning, as the reliable source says, where is the news?...................

So, if he was supposed to sign this morning, as the reliable source says, where is the news?................... You know the O/S is extremely slow... would have thought it would be a joint announcement with Clarke's announcement.

The potential fee for Smithies will increase no end IF Platini gets his way with this 6 + 5 rule they are trying to bring in where 6 of a teams starting line up must be eligable for that country's national team. It was always European Union law that was the stumbling block but UEFA are now confident they have found a legal way round that. If Smithies is worth £1m now, if that ruling comes in his value will immediately triple Id have thought.

If this is true - will prob announce tomorrow ahead of our 'crunch game'.......boost fan voice, tone level, confidence etc. Also, they wouldn't announce together with NClarkes signing as it would take away his glory 15 mins of his own good news for the club!.........That wouldn't be fair would it Nathan!!!........Well done fella, you deserve your contract.

I have also heard this Re. Smithies. 6K pw was also mentioned 300k * 2/3 years he'll stay with us to the max. so less than a million and we'll easily recoup it.

yeah get him to sign a new contract and sell him for more. He is getting first team football here and should know that's better than reserves at a premiership club.

Nathan's extension on his contract only got a small mention in the back page of the Unexamined today, they were too busy reporting on rugby.

At least they can win away from home. But in all seriousness, from a (neither reliable nor unreliable) source, I heard about this 4 year deal last week, it was also mentioned that he would be the highest paid player in Town's history. I'm guessing that was previously Boothy when he came back?
