Not good enough-waste of money, no better than what we've already got, should have got a striker instead. Discuss.

Not had a fair crack of the whip to be fair, we've nowhere near seen what he is capable of yet IMO.

I don't think he pushes up far enough and we don't play the ball behind defenders for him to chase it. He WILL become a star player for town. It takes time.

But he can play some nice stuff too. I am sure the coaches can sort this over time. He needs to take a leaf out of The Milky bar kid's from Colchester tonight. He got stuck in, no probs.

FFS! Yeah, we nearly got Gallagher, Porter, Graham, Phillips (!), anyone with at least one functioning leg who was a striker in the window. B*llocks!!!! Ainsworth is potentially an excellent player, pace, confidence to take people on, hang in the air like Michael Jordan. Yes, frustrating when he loses it but I'd rather he tries it than we have a chugging, plodding midfield. Anyone remember the wonderful balance we had under Ternent? Perhaps we should get on the blower to Simon Baldry and see if he fancies putting in one performance this season and getting another year?

Three words
Give him time
Not the finished article at all - needs work on end product, tactical, positioing etc - but give him the chance!
We all know (clark included) that we needed a striker more - but he'll get that in the summer.

He's 21, got bags of potential and given a decent run in the team will provide everything a half arsed striker needs. Just think before you post

He was good against Hartlepool? He actually ran the football off the pitch 3 times. That's right, he got the ball and ran off the pitch with the ball

I agree with most of the above - the lad needs to be given time. He's young and inconsistent, but he has the attributes to be a decent winger. He has pace. skill and is capable of putting the ball in the box - something we haven't had for some time on the wings. Perhaps he doesn't get stuck in as much as some of the others, but that's not what he's in the team for. Give the lad a chance.

just 6 months ago we had Kamara/Brandon down that wing. Seriously, would you prefer one of them in the team instead over Ainsworth. He's not the finished article by a country mile, and he still carries double the threat that those 2 do most weeks. Wish we'd kept him further up the pitch when Colchester had set pieces though. at 5'4 or whatever, he's hardly adding steel to our defence in that sort of situation, whilst as a counter attacking threat he gives opponents just a little to think about!

I'd like to see him play off the big man, i think that way we could exploit his pace and get him in behind the defence. Otherwise i think it's a waste of time having him on the pitch, his final product is always dissapointing. He either runs the ball out of play, get's tackled or goes on a dazzling run and misplaces a pass.

He was superb against Hartlepool? He ran the bloody ball out of play three times, under little pressure, that's like schoolboy stuff. His crossing against Hartlepool however was superb and was crying out for a goalscorer, but since then-shit.

I'd question whether he has the finishing ability to play as a 2nd striker though. I'd much prefer Pilks or Roberts in that role as at least we know they can put the ball away in the box when it falls to them. I'd also guess they have better awareness around the box for the quick interchanges we try and play. Ainsworth's end product should improve with experience, for now his biggest assest is his pace which we need to work on exploiting better.

He's like Walcott when he first started out at Arsenal- hopefully he can mature in the same way.

Looks short of a bit of confidence to me. He'll come good. Completely agree. Once something goes very well for him he will not look back. Let's hope he doesn't lose the crowd before that happens!

I've been saying for a few weeks now that Ainsworth doesn't stand a chance at Town because we have too many dickheads in the crowd who won't give him a chance; just like the one that started this thread.

The problem is players get judged on their effort and last night there was none whatsoever from him, he didn't even look like he was bothered, that really pissed me off
