There seems to be a fair bit of talk about the bearded on on other posts, but I wondered what people generally thought of him and what he has brought / will bring to Town.
I was certainly one of the ones who was really happy when he came in, giving his credentials and the positive things people had said about him. Even though I didn't / don't really know what he brings to the team.
I know it is very early in his tenure to really assess him, but what exactly does he do? How is he / has he changed the mentality and / or fitness levels of the lads so far?
Don't get me wrong, I am not bashing him, but can anyone see a positive difference so far?
or in other words, how different would it be right now if he was not here?

It takes a long time to change the mindset of a whole side. Especially as under every manager (all the way back to Jacko) that a lot of these players have played under have been happy to sit back on a one goal lead.
At present, the coaching staff are trying to work against the players instincts, which they aren't going to do successfully over night.
As for the players looking unfitter, I really don't know what that's based on. Probably knee jerk reaction of conceding late goals, I'd guess.

A players fitness mainly depends on the work they do in pre season. If players are unfit during the season, you can put in all the work you want to get them fitter, but the danger is that will tire them out, so while improving their general fitness they actually have less energy when it comes to match days. Like everything else it takes time, I'm sure given a full pre season we will be able to see the benefits.

blackie will proove to be a massive massive figure in what this team will do.
blackie doesn't need to proove himself to us, he has done time and time again in his career and his regarded as the best at what he does! lets get of his back and leave him too it!
lets just bear with this management team it will deliver!

He is supposed to be a Sports Psychologist who works on the mental toughness of the players yet judging by the number of last minute goals we are conceding his "work" is having no effect. Anybody can spout about turning the Galpharm into a fortress and all Managers say that about making your ground a fearful place to play at. Finally, before anyone jumps on me and says what he did for Johnny Wilkinson i couldn't give two s***s about some egg chasing crock either. He seems like all wind n piss to me!!!!

I don't doubt his credentials at all, I am just wondering exactly what effect he has had, and what effect he is likely to have. Perhaps LC uses him personally for support as well as the players............

A fitness coach that's 15 stone plus, a fitness coach who's players have conceded 3 90+ minute goals in the last 3 games, a fitness coach who once coached the famous Jonny 'sicknote' Wilkinson. How many games has he played since the 2003 world cup? 'Nuff said

This Guy is at the top of his profession in which ever field he is working in Football, Rugby Union or in Business and is highly regarded by many people, u can see the togetherness of the Team even in the pre match warm up and this is one of the things that Blackie has installed. Its not going to happen overnight what the Management Team are aiming to achieve and this includes Steve Black wait till he's had a full pre season to prepare and if nothing improves then slate the Guy, he is regarded by many as one of the best conditioning coachs in the world and we should be thankfull we have a Man of his credtibility at our Club, 3 late goals aren't his fault.

Read his piece in Friday's "Examiner"
Whenever I have had the misfortune to have dealings with "Motivational" gurus (or whatever they are) the emphasis has always been on talking up the positive aspects of experiences and most definitely NOT making excuses...
What we really need from a coach & trainer is fitness (not evident in our lot at the mo) & the ability to control the ball & pass to a body wearing a blue & white shirt - if putting that shirt on isn't "motivation" enough then they should be encouraged to get a proper job in the real World.

Blackie is an integral part of what Clark is trying to do - if you say or think that Clark is on the right track, you have to believe he has a huge role to play, cos Clark thinks he has

No - but I expect all of our players to be at optimum fitness And: I expect a motivational coach not to be making excuses (in print) that they can hang on to...

"We'll learn from our mistakes, that's what it's all about". Well they'd better get in the classroom early tomorrow and start learning, cos they've got a lot of work to get through. How do people not see through this man. His crowning glory comes from being the fitness coach to Jonny Wilkinson. Jonny Wilkinson must have played around 20 games in 6 years, and never come close to recreating the form of 2003. So that's it, Blacks crowning glory was a failure. The players are fitter than they have ever been? Well the statistics prove that statement to be wholly incorrect don't they. Players see their coaches and managers as examples, that's why managers are always ex-pro's, how are you suppose to see your FITNESS coach as an example, when he's shovelling pukka pies down his mouth at every given opportunity?
What has Black done? Talked a good game. Nothing has been improved, even in the games that we have won, the players have still been nervy and arguably haven't deserved to win. This season has proved one thing, you cannot polish a turd. There have been games that we have won, such as Walsall and Peterborough, where the opposing manager must have felt like a rape victim. But yet, after the games, we're praising the players for their magical performances, whereas twenty minutes before we were bemoaning them for playing like twats.

Can't say i've noticed any players getting less fit? Other than Lukas who has medical problems...

But yet, after the games, we're praising the players for their magical performances, whereas twenty minutes before we were bemoaning them for playing like twats. Really don't understand what you have against Blackie whatsoever. He has been here 15 games. Yes that's right. 15 games. He has instilled belief and togetherness within our squad. You also only have to look at the fact that our injury list has been pretty sparse since he came in, which is beneficial to us as we are able to pick our best team on more occasions. To me it sounds like you are just looking for a scapegoat. You won't choose Clark because you know that the majority of the fans are behind him and you will get shot to pieces, so instead you have opted for Blackie as perhaps opinion may be divided. I bet this time 10 days ago you weren't on here posting rubbish about Blackie so why now? Yes we have conceded a goal in the last minute 3 games in a row. It happens unfortunately it doesn't all of a sudden mean that one individual person within the club is at fault for it. Going on your logic, you think it was Steve Black's fault that Smithies palmed the ball into Nathan Clarke's face. You also think it was Steve Black's fault that we gave a free-kick away on the edge of the penalty area against Colchester and you also think that it is Steve Black's fault that Collins gave possession away as we pressed for a winner on Saturday. Just think about what you are saying the man has been around for 3-4 months and you are advocating he gets the boot. Ridiculous. RANT OVER!

Can't believe that people are trying to pin three late goals on Black's shoulders!
What do you think he personally could have done to prevent any of them?
We've got probably the best coaching team outside the Prem who have only had 15 games in charge. If people want to pick holes and start saying get so-and-so out fair enough. But if we don't make it to championship and above now then we probably never will.
So if the vocal minority get there way can't appreciate what we have now then they deserve to be lumbered with another Ritchie, Ternant, N E Other Journeyman.

opta stats and number crunch all day,the players say there fitter, period.it ll come then these moronic posts will be quickly forgotten.maybe its psychology thats making them feel fitter? granted its not reached results but theres numerous reasons why,how can it not been seen as positive employing the staff of the pedigree we ve now got? is blacky responsible for johhny not competing into his fortys? and as for the argument that he s over weight??jesus.so was brian clough not a good manager?herbert chapman? it does nt hold water a ridiculous statement like that.

I'm not trying to make Steve Black a scapegoat. I find it ridiculous, that as a an argument for his defence, you all claim that Town are fitter, and have a better mindset. I am not trying to make him a scapegoat, i'm asking, 'What's the point?'. baldingboothy(lol), how can you say he has instilled belief and togetherness in our squad? Belief and togetherness are not defined, by players coming out and making ambling comments such as "Yea, brilliant ground, brilliant set-up, we're going to the premiership us". That's optimism, and to a small extent propaganda, to get the Town fans on side.
Fitzyblue, you can't argue against my Jonny Wilkinson post. We've got a fitness coach who's biggest achievement in the sports world is coaching Jonny Wilkinson. There's only one way it could have been worse- if he'd been Darren Andertons coach.
