I've read 606 and DATM this morning, and I now see that the general mindset of the fans of HTFC, is that as soon as a few games don't go our way, the managerial setup must come in for serious questioning and review. I think it's bollocks. I think you should abandon them questions creeping in the back of your head right away, it's bad for you. It is only because of the time since Jackson left that you now think this way. I'm afraid it is a physiological problem that occurs when managers come and go at a club in such a short space of time. It's a bad habit, get rid.
Played 3, points 2. You do not know how easily this could read played 3, points 7. Why is it not? Because it's football. C'est la vie. Switching off in the last few minutes, or a bit of luck on the other teams side, nothing more.
I think another problem is the Playoffs. Always there as a goal, something to play for. Nothing wrong with wanting to achieve something, but with this season, would promotion really be well deserved? If Gerry Murphy hadn't come in, the playoffs wouldn't have even been mentioned. What had we seen in the first half of the season that made us think we had the quality, ability and desire to reach the playoffs in the second? Our team is no where near good enough to warrant a place in the Championship. We have players who are not good enough to get us out of this league, and players who perhaps are but are performing way below what is required.
So my opinion is this.
We will not get promoted from this league with players that still get into our first 11.
First off Robbie. I'm of the opinion that Williams only has a decent game when the other team don't have a winger capable of exploiting him. Why would any defender be of the mindset that a ball should be able to bounce first, when it is there for the first time clearance? He has done nothing for us since Richie signed us, and will continue to do nothing whilst he plays for HTFC. He isn't just going to start magically improving now. Get rid.
Holdwsworth - my first time probably criticising him, but he isn't a quality RB for the top half of this league. I think it became apparent when we were playing Hartlepool (I think...), when we spent most of the second half attempting to bang on the door. He had no vision, or forward drive. The ball was constantly cleared to him, and no matter how much he was urged to run forward into open space, he just didn't want to. He gave poor service to Ainsworth, who time and time again signaled for a ball to be played over his head to run on to. Instead he was fed short passes that he would have to collect with his back to goal.
Jevons and Parker, trying to keep it short: I don't care what they've done at clubs before us and who cares if they go onto achieve at clubs after us, these two should not play for HTFC after this season. Keep one as back up if he won't budge due to contract issues. In town shirts, the most impotent, clueless, shower of shite attackers I can remember for a long time.
Clark needs to be able to successfully bring in people who will do the business up front in this league. Two proven goalscorers. How optimistic can we be this season when we know we don't have a striker at the club, name a team that has gotten anywhere without someone doing something up front? It's ludicrous. No point blaming past or present managers for this, no amount of coaching will get a man to start finding the back of the net. It's all natural instinct.
I am a student who is £1000 overdrawn at the moment. Yesterday I spent £25 traveling to and from the match and having a drink and something to eat. I can't afford to do it but I do, I left yesterday with frustrations of this and that, but not once did I think about LC having to put up or shut up, or questioning this and that. I took what I saw from the performance. I won't judge LC until next season, and not the first month of it either. I wrote this season off a long time. I had to, I couldn't take my teams chances of the playoffs seriously with certain players on the books, it actually brought a smile to my face.
You have to reserve judgment on the management until we see where it goes next season. A short, successful caretaker manager stint where we ground out a few uninspiring wins with a bit of luck does not rule our season. The players are not, and never were good enough to go up. We have some good players in the team. But we need 11 good players and a season from scratch with the new management for things to go places. That's my view anyway.
Am I off the ball?

On the whole a very good post. Your views re. Lee Clark exactly reflect mine.

yes, have a positive, completely agree. i looked on 606 for the first time in a while this morning and its pathetic, it sounds worse than it was when stan was here, "Total Shambles!" ?! if you have an account on there please put this on there too! i think they need someone with a brain cell to help them out! i have full faith in lee to get it right, let him have a pre season, let him sign his own players, then judge him half way through next season, if we're in the top 6, great, if we're in the bottom 6, oh dear...

No mate you're not off the ball. You have to give Clark time, the problem he may well have though is that we have a very large squad, some of them who have at least another year on their contracts. A lot of these players will be hard to get rid of, cos nobody will want them! IMO, there may be a lot less of a clearout than many people on here think - not for the want of trying, just stuck with contractual obligations.
If Werling was the player we needed, he would be in the team now, so I doubt he will be offered anything further, though his arrival has perked Williams up, and I actually think Williams was our best player yesterday, although it was a very poor team performance.
I do believe that with 2 good strikers, a lot of pressure will be taken off our defence as they won't be defending 1 goal leads all the time. No team can ever be promoted with the productivity of our strike force this season - it is ludicrous that a loan player who left in november has scored as many goals as the rest of our strikers put together all season.
I believe that we are on the right track, and that our last 2 home performances are more confidence related, rather than anything to do with ability.
Don't lose heart, I'm sure we will have a much better season next time

Good post mate. You HAVE to give the management time. For anyone to seriously question Clark and Co being the right guys for the job are fools. As much as I hated what Ternent slopped up week in week out I was actually in favour of giving him more time purely because ultimately I believe you have to give a manager time. Ternent wasn't given time, though I was mightily pleased to see the back of him.
Anyway, this isn't about the past, it's about the future of our beloved club. Be under no illusions, injury time giveaways or otherwise, we ARE going places. Everything takes time. It takes time to convince the right kind of players to come to the club. It's a bit like going out and seeing a stunning chick - she's hardly gonna drop her knickers and come back to your house that night. So you wine and dine her, and show her what a good thing she's onto. On the back of that you're hardly gonna pick up a ten to two swamp donkey.
This is exactly what Clark has said. He wants the right kind of players. Those intelligent, thinking footballers - the kind that make good managers. We certainly don't have enough. RB is a suspect position, and we ned a new CB as cover for Clarke and Butler.
Obviously the most important position is up front. In the Summer, those stunners will be part of our club, and the swapdonkeys that are Jevons, Parker and Lucas will be released.

Can't disagree with much of that, add to your list for the exit door (if possible) Unsworth, Kamara, Flynn and Craney. Things will look a lot better with a couple of additions to fill the aboves places and at least 1 decent striker. But I'll try to go into next season with little to no expectation as if I had a quid for everytime I'd said or thought next season we'll win the league / get promoted I wouldn't have to go to work tommorow.

Hopefully the quality of any signings will be similar to Pilkinton and not useless-a-vitch. But we've got to stick with this management team because if we can't get out of the 3rd division with the quality of this management team and the backing provided by Dean Hoyle we might as well give up.

In Yook-a-vich's defence, or at least in LC's defence of bringing him in, he was a £1m player who had flirted with the fringes of Everton's first team. Most people, including myself, were looking forward to seeing his potential, and the first half of his debut against Leeds got me excited. It hasn't worked out, but granted that our strike force was laughable in the first place, it was an opportunity worth taking. Tehoue's situation is just one of those things in life. From what I've read it looks like the Turkish club and their FA are a joke.
