Doesnt surprise me re Cads at all, Ive also heard he wont get an offer at Town.
We will sign 2 decent strikers in the summer which is the main reason we have struggled so much in this average division !

Why do you doubt Cadders will get a new contract? Keep it quiet but Cads is NOT getting a new contract. We will have two new strikers for next season along with Novak and Boothy. Cads will be released and parker and Jevons offloaded if takers can be found. I was under the impression this was Sir Boothy's last season!

If cads doesn't get a new deal it'll only be because of his injuries, because when hes playing hes one of our best players and a good level or two above Ainsworth. It'll be a shame but we'll have to trust our management team who know exactly what his injuries are and how bad they are. Ive also heard from a very good source that we can expect 2 proven strikers to arrive in the summer, so Novak will only be a standby striker at best to start with. It wouldn't surprise me if he is loaned out to a League 2 club at some point in the season to help bridge the gap between Conf North and League 1. Boothy can't be getting another deal surely! Wheeling him out to contribute very little every now and then is a waste of a squad place, a waste of Hoyles money, not doing Boothys knees or reputation any good and frankly a bit embaressing. I watch him play and think how i don't want to remember him like this.

I'd rather give Cads another contract than Boothy. He's spent less time injured this season than Booth. Neither are going to score any goals but at least Cads can play a bit, move and cause a few problems.

Its alright saying that but Boothy had 1 serious injury (surgery??) and then suffered a minor setback in his return. Cadamarteri has had about 30 short term injuries this season. I wouldn't keep either of them after this season if I am honest. Why should we keep 2 players who can't clock up enough games or score goals when they are both strikers? If we want to go for the play offs next season, we need to be aiming higher than that IMO.

Cads has played over 20 games this season, hes hardly had '30' short term injuries. And he's never seen a striker, he's a winger and at the moment he's a better winger than Ainsworth.

Cads has played in 27 out of 39 games. Not bad with 30 short term injuries!

Full name Daniel Leon Cadamarteri Date of birth 12 October 1979 (1979-10-12) (age 29) Place of birth Cleckheaton, England Height 5 ft 9 in (1.75 m) Playing position Striker He has played as a striker for us this season on a few occasions. Look at this season's record and from anytime in his career: www.soccerbase.com/players_details.sd?playerid=10582I'm not saying he hasn't played well for us this season, I just think he is injured way too much to warrant a new contract - unless it was pay as you play but even then I'd be thinking about keeping a stability in the team without his injuries breaking that up every other week. I also think it is a bit harsh on Lionel Ainsworth - he has only played a few games for us, he has shown glimpses of what he can do but has been inconsistent within games. He has just moved to a new club and a totally new area and his close cousin recently passed away.

I know he's played up front a bit recently but thats more out of desperation and the fact that we havn't got any strikers. He's played all his best football on the wing this season, and has been one of the best players when he's played (which is far more often than not!)
I think Ainsworth will turn out to be a quality buy and will come good next season, but wouldn't it be nice to have 4 quality wingers to feed our new strikers?

4 quality wingers sounds good. And Cadamarteri has played well as a winger (just in case anybody thinks I don't rate him there).
It would be a pay as you play contract for me though - his track record with injuries in the past would make me say that that was as good a contract offer as could be justified.
That way, he stays fit and plays and gets paid everybody benefits. If he is injured, he doesn't get paid and we play somebody else - the club is not paying money for nothing.
As for Boothy, let him retire at the end of the season as has been suggested.

Cads has done ok this season. He is certainly injury prone though. In his 27? appearances he hasn't scored and has made 3 assists.
I think we as fans do get lost in sentiment and can't see further than what we have. How many goals should we expect from an attacking player(mainly winger)? I'd say at least 5/6 from his appearances. If he played every game between now and the end of the season would anyone back him to score? Time to let sentiment go and move on.

Why would we be sentimental towards Cads? He's been here two years where we've done naff all, is ex Bradford and Leeds and has hardly scored. Im just basing my opinion on the fact that he's been a good winger this season.

I'll be pretty gutted if Cads doesn't get a new contract; he's one of my favourite Town players, and when he's fit he's a step above this division and the majority of our squad.

0 goals and 3 assists in nearly 30 games from an attacking player!
Thats 1 in 10 and we're not even talking goals. Cads has got something to offer but surely there is better out there. Roberts gets stick on here and he has scored 10 and created approx 10. If Cads had the same return we would be top 6 comfortably. I wonder what Ainsworths record is this season? I bet its a damn site better than Cads.

Yeah but cads the winger gets to the byline and puts decent crosses in, and with Jevons/Parker/Jokeavitch pratting round elsewhere thats why he's not got many assists. Roberts plays differently he cuts inside and passes more.
Imagine if Cads had been putting crosses on a decent strikers head. He'd have a lot more assists. I'll gave you the not scoring bit though!

His crosses aren't THAT good really.
There nowhere near as good as Pilkington's or Roberts' and Ainsworth, despite playing below what he potentially can, looks as though he can put in more dangerous balls into the box.
Cadamarteri's are kind of always slow chips through the air. They would get picked off by better opposition.
Its a weird situation where he is effective until it gets to the end product of scoring or the crucial ball.

But maybe we are all exaggerating Cads' performances, as we are comparing him to what else we have had going forward for much of the season. Cads is a favourite because he works his socks off and never gives the defender time on the ball. That contrasts the languid style or inability of every other Town forward, so he stands out much more than he would if he were being compared to two "busy" strikers, that we'll hopefully be signing in the summer.
Don't get me wrong, I think he's had a good season, despite the lack of an end product, although the lack of options to aim for has contributed to that. I just think that it's the performances of others up front that has made him look more effective than he actually has been. 3 assists and no goals is a harsh, but true statistic. It's not like I can really remember him being wasteful with chances, as he never seems to be on the end of them.
You'd expect that he's fourth in the pecking order for a wide spot, behind Pilks, Roberts and Ainsworth. I can't see him being productive enough up front to warrant a place there, so it's a place on the bench in all probability next year. Is he worth a wage for that? That's what Clark and co have to decide on. It's Ok saying, "Let's offer him a pay as you play deal," but what if he doesn't want a deal like that. I'm sure there would be other clubs interested in giving him the stability of a permanent contract.

I'm sure there would be other clubs interested in giving him the stability of a permanent contract. Then that would be up to him but it is the best I would offer him. If he then said that he wouldn't sign it then the exit door would be open to him. I would be surprised if he couldn't understand why he was getting offered the pay as you play deal with his history. That is only my opinion though.

Quoting assists for our wingers this season doesn't really do them justice does it, when you consider what they've been aiming at.
IF Cads had been fit for more games he'd probably be my player of the season, him or Roberts. He's a class act when he's fit, hopefully he can get sorted again and we'll give him a pay as you play deal.

Cads crossing is as good as any of Roberts, Pilks and better than Ainsworth who tends to over hit most of his IMO. Hes also the physically strongest and tenacious of them. There are doubts about his injury record but as a player ( on the wing mind!) then he'd be one of the firdst names on the teamsheet if it was up to me. The run he had up to this latest injury, he was our best player in just about every game I saw for weeks.

I think the best we should offer is a highly incentivised pay as you play deal - his injury record is truly appalling and whilst he has been good this season we cant afford to spend good money on a key player who has played only 40 ish games in 2 seasons.

Take it from me that Cads is going. Boothy will play another season. Two new strikers coming in the summer as first choice strikes with Boothy and Novak as backups.

It's madness though isn't it?! I think the 3rd stoppage time goal has eroded some people's minds! ;D There is about a 0.0000000001 chance that Novak will step up from being a decent Blue Square North striker (I'll spell it out - below Blue Square Premiership, which is below League 2, which is below League 1!) and come in, settle straight away and bag what is enough to be league's top scorer. I will cut my scrotum open with a shard of glass if he gets 30 goals in League 1 in 2009/2010. well that would make a change to the usual half time entertainment

Roberts Pilkington and Ainsworth offer the whipped crosses and Cadamarteri offers the chips. It's difficult to put any power on a chipped cross and easy to put it on a whipped cross.

Personally I think Cads is the strongest player on our books, he was a stocky 17 year old when he first broke through at Everton and at 29 is filled out and is probably about his peak strength wise. I've seen full backs bounce off him, literally
He still has a turn of pace, quick feet and can deliver a centre - he showed all three when roasting Telfer at Elland Road, it wasn't a case of "would" he beat him and get a cross in but "when" - he also showed superb awareness, at a level none of the other wingers have (comes with experience), at L**ds instead of panicking and getting the ball in aimlessly without a man there to receive it (like I've seen GR, LA, MK and AP do) Cads instead held it for a few seconds allowing Collins time to bomb in and get in position to get on the end of it - real class wing play from Cads!
Frankly I've seen him murder a few backs this season, at Carlisle on Boxing Day I think we could have got something if Clark had instructed our players to him on the ball more, he more than had the measure of there left back. Basically if you get him one on one with a full back more times than not he'll "do him", contrast to say Ainsworth who sometimes beats the man, sometimes gets tackled and sometimes kicks the ball too far and it runs into touch!
Basically Pilks and Ainsworth can learn a lot from Cads (who still is an important player in his own right) so I really hope we keep him

I think we've been used to mediocrity and Cads stands out from that (when he's fit/on a good day), if it were any other time in the last 5 years of course give him a contract, but as the signings of Pilkington and Ainsworth shows we're going to be in for players just as classy as Cads (when he's fit/on a good day) AND expect them to put in a full season. We can't afford any passengers if we want to be successful, I don't want us paying him a good wage for 10/15 appearances a year when we could be paying it someone else equally as good.
