Just got back.
We were pretty lucky tonight. First half we were out played all over the park. Don't think we had a single shot which tested the keeper.
MK Dons looked lively, played some nice stuff and had no problems coping with our lack of strikeforce. 1 up front is really annoying me. Booth did the best he could but lets face it, he is past it.
Second half we came out looking sharper showing a bit more ambition but still can't help but think that by playing a second striker we'd give the opposition much more to think about.
Why weren't we looking to get another striker on the pitch at 1-0 down with 15 to go??
Our goal was very soft and very lucky. Couldn;t really see who was at fault for their goal but the defence just seemed to open up and stop.
Last minute should have won it, Roberts broke down the left - great cross. The Everton lad cut inside, knocked it back to Flynn whose shot somehow stayed out after hitting the defender on the line and the post.
Alot of fans thought we had been cheated, it didn't cross the line for me, just very unlucky or bad finishing!!!
Referee - hopeless, a real homer. His lack of knowledge of the advantage rule worked against us a few times and he seemed intent on punishing every little collision against us.
Smithies - Saved us second half, good perfromance Holdsworth - Not bad but not great. Doesn't show any threat when overlapping and coming forward. I'm sure he used to get some great crosses in Williams - NOt as good as of late, quite a few very negative passes Butler - Did OK, no nonsense Lucketti - Same as Butler but his ability on the ball is shocking Roberts - Poor tonight - gave the ball away too much and again seemed to take an age to shoot and crossing was awful Pilkington - Non existant first half. Much better second half- should have scored with a back post volley but to be fair Booth didn;t help him much. Crossing not up to his usual standard Collins and Tom Clarke - worked hard. Don;t really pull the strings in there and spent most of the first half chasing. Started to look better 2nd half Craney - Some nice touches but we really need a second striker in there. Booth - Does what he does to the best of his ability but just has no pace and we are insistent on knocking long for him. One comedy fall when he was clear. If Jutkewiz had done it he would have been slated . Booth gets away with it
Jutkewizc - came on late and looked more enthusiastic. Probably should have taken the chance at the end on his own Flynn - didn't do alot and should have scored at the end
Overall- not great. Very happy to take the point but the winner would have been a smash and grab
Can't help but think Ainsworth would have been a key player tonight, so much space on a good pitch
The ground - Fantastic stadium. Very impressed

in that case were northampton, colchester, stockport and millwall lucky? your reading of the game is totally different to clark/oggy/oregan and the mk fan who came on here. oh, and the sky sports reporter. not saying you're wrong cos i wasn't there but..................................
good point away at a good side IMO.
FUCKING NEGATIVE THIS BOARD!

Thanks for that. So, we played no better than we have in recent games, but the result was decent given the performance? Time to experiment, I reckon.

Interesting to see the other views. Not saying I'm right BUT....
look at it this way.
75 mins gone, 1-0 down. we've barely had a shot on target. We still have 1 player up front, we don't look like we're trying to get a point as Booth offers nothing on the break. We've just defended a corner with 11 men back in the box!!!
We score a header from a corner which took a massive deflection.
Great result but we're a long way off where we need to be and I think that is the frustrating thing for me.
Put another way - if that Butler header hadn't gone in I think there would have been a lot of stick flying around. One lucky goal and there is a different perspective on things
Forgot to mention there lads waltz into the area first half and shot smashing the post

FUCKING NEGATIVE THIS BOARD! Northampton were lucky, wasn't at Colchester (h) or Stockport (a). We were crap against Millwall deserved to win on Saturday. I totally disagree with Clark that that was our best performance for him. Very happy with the point but certain players can play much better that that.

I've already mentioned in another thread but my take on this (briefly) was:
1st half - Town look to be on the back foot most of the time. Positioning and desire to win the ball was a bit off-kilt as MK seemed to have plenty of time on the ball and considering we essentially played 5 across the midfield, had a ridiculous amount of time. Their right-hand sided players looked particularly useful, especially Puncheon who I believe was the guy you rattled the bar. However, Town came back a bit around 35 minutes and finished the half relatively strongly. Certainly didn't feel as though a draw was an unfair result at this point, although Town seemed to be struggling a bit with the pace.
Second half - Town came out strongly, which I was quite surprised about. Having gone from about 80-20 possession in favour of MK in 1st half, Town really took the bull by the horns and had a go at MK. The players looked to have gained an extra yard or so on their pace, looked hungrier for the ball and just...well, got stuck in far more. Passes were also generally quicker, shorter and Town put together a few nice moves. However, it's fair to say (I think) that we never *really* looked too much like scoring, but hey, preaching, converted...?
MK goal was fairly against the run of play - looked to be a case of poor defending and I feared that that would be it. However, after a brief spell of pressure, Town eventually clawed their way back into it. Our goal looked to have a bit of luck about it in the sense that it was deflected and seemed to take an eternity to cross the line, but heaven knows we could do with some luck.
The last minute attempt by Flynn - not a goal in my opinion. Call it inspired defending, call it fluke, call it whatever, but at the time I didn't think that the ball had gone over the line. It makes no difference anyway now but I think we were unlucky rather than Flynn having ballsed it up or the linesman having done us out of a decision.
I went from a feeling of indifference (1st half - so boring) to disappointment (MK goal against run of play) to justification (our equaliser) back to slight disappointment (our 'almost goal') to pride (final whistle) tonight. There's little question that we lacked that edge and perhaps bit of luck that successful sides have when they're playing with confidence.
However, as another poster put it - we played with balls tonight. Particularly in the 2nd half, we fought for everything, and in my humble opinion, we truly deserved the draw (at least). I won't write it all again, but MK were a truly, and surprisingly, negative side and were awful to watch. At least Town tried to play some football tonight.
Effort: 1st half = C, 2nd half = B+ Success at playing football: 1st = C+, 2nd = B+
UTT ;D

Completely disagree Yogi - brought my girlfriend's dad as a neutral and he agreed that we were the better side by full time and had that goal gone it would have been a deserved 3 points

Just the way we saw it

i dont agree yogi, from 35 minutes we upped it and played with urgency and heart. the most important thing is that we played FOOTBALL for nearly 80 mins, not hit it and hope like we have seen for years. its the same old story, no strike options, no one to take a chance with a shot, that is why the shot counter was lacking.
We played alot better than i was expecting and with the right additions to the squad in the summer, we can really do something.
lucketti was awesome tonight, i don't know why people knock him so much

It doesn't seem to me like you are disagreeing with much. Poor first half. Better second half. Striking options lacking. I never said there was a lack of effort. Just a lack of quality and striking options. Our big players didn't perform as they can. I.e Roberts.
I personally think they played better first half than we did second and on chances created we were lucky to get a point.

Poor first half but MK Dons didn't really cause us that many problems. If it was earlier in the season I think we would have been 3-0 by half time. The problem was down our left side with ROberts not tracking his runner meaning Puncheon was always free.
Second half was all us but we didn't play that well. We were too narrow in midfield with no width.
I thought the goal should have stood at the end and so did the neutral fan who came from work. We was sat pretty much in line with the post and you could see all the ball. Linesman was poor all game, he was never up with play and needed the ref to make most of the decisions for him.
I think we'll finish 8th as we have had a hard few games and hopefully we have the chance to pick a few more points up in the next few games after Tranmere.
Good point tonight and I'm really looking forward to next season.

Totally agree aca00js me and my mate were arguing he was saying we were so negitive and all that and didnt have any chances but then again apart from the shot that hit the bar i cant remember MK doing much either. Thought we played ok tonight and deseved the draw once again a defenive lapse cost us a goal.

I thought we played well, all MK Dons to start with but we came into the game the longer it went on and bossed the second half. People were calling for a second striker, but who, Lukas who's been crap or Jevons who's been crap. I felt (like Clark obviously) that if we kept our shape and kept playing the way we had been that we would be rewarded, and we were, not just with an equaliser but with a winner (I'm convinced it crossed the line, but it wasn't to be). Much improved from recent games, and definitely something to build on. Well played Town

Booth was our best player tonight. If only somebody would get here him as he won most of this battles tonight. I just wish he was 5 years younger and could still move. I think its the end of him this season from Clarks comments.

I think its the end of him this season from Clarks comments. Without a doubt. A performance like that, with a goal and three points down at Orient would be the perfect way for him to end his career

Probably deservered the draw for our second half performance, but overall I too thought our performance was mediocre.
Seemed to be a lack of any team work or system, players getting each others way, not moving well off the ball etc, and a general lack of confidence. Hopefully a point of at one of the best teams in the league (who to be fair weren't that good either),will be the tonic we need??

I think its the end of him this season from Clarks comments. followed closely by lucketti, he won everything at the back. he might be slow but his reading of the game can often compensate. if he had speed there is no way that he'd be in this division
